We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It enables us to provide more solution options for our clients, with the reassurance that, when implemented, they will be efficient and stable.""We have been able to use more on-prem hardware to reduce cost and also use old disks that we do not trust enough for ordinary RAID or usage.""The main benefit is that StarWind is almost maintenance-free.""It also provides a high degree of mobility, as the virtual SAN can be moved relatively painlessly between on-site devices and the cloud.""The StarWind VSAN is always up and allows us to move VMS to other nodes for maintenance, without interruption to service.""The management was very easy and I was able to find all that I need in the software dashboard.""The most valuable feature is the reliable storage replication, which enables me to create a robust infrastructure to run our business.""StarWind vSAN has a lot of great features and is a perfect solution for mirroring internal disks and flash between servers."

"The most valuable feature of Acronis Cyber Infrastructure is the multi-tenancy model, we can create customers and services for them.""The most valuable feature is the backup capability.""The most valuable features are the full image backup, and the file or document sharing, allowing documents to be easily accessed from anywhere."

More Acronis Cyber Infrastructure Pros →

"I like that you can add other types of services.""It is stable and scalable.""The most useful feature is the solution's automation in terms of how we are able to spin up a certain workload in real-time when we are doing R&D.""The consolidation of the management in one control point is the most valuable. The whole infrastructure management is consolidated in just one console point. The documentation is also pretty good.""The size of the hardware is what we need because it is very good for small configurations.""Both the scalability and stability of this solution are excellent."

Cons
"The logs can also become very noisy when there is an issue, which is very infrequent.""It could have a dashboard so that you can check all servers' SAN health and performance.""Currently, the StarWind management console is a bit clunky to navigate and isn't the most user-intuitive interface.""The documentation could be a little more concise, but, for the most part, it just works.""I want to suggest that the complexity of the startup and shutdown procedure needs to be reduced.""Although minor, some of the documentation could be rewritten to be clearer.""Android app for monitoring and receiving push notifications as alarms or monitoring I/O from any mobile device could be a good feature and nice to have as we are not always on our desk.""Improvements in documentation and support resources could enhance the user experience."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"I would like to see real-time backup supported in the next release of this solution.""Acronis Cyber Infrastructure is too populated. They have many features, but some features are still missing, it is not complete. They need to improve many features, such as email security and disaster recovery.""If they could make improvements with the virtual environment then it would be better."

More Acronis Cyber Infrastructure Cons →

"This product is not so stable. Maybe it is just not mature enough in its development.""The main issue is the initial investment. It is an expensive product, and it should be cheaper. It should also be easier to use and manage. The professional service for this solution is quite complex and expensive.""The licensing policy needs to be improved. They have a licensing policy based on the number of CPU sockets. Nowadays what has happened is that the license they are trying to move is based on the number of CPU cores. With the advancement in technology there are now more cores in a single CPU. It's been very challenging in terms of managing the license around everything. Today we have a processor with 24 and 32 cores on the same physical CPU.""The cloud deployment could be improved.""It is not user-friendly, and it is very difficult to operate. You have to have a deep understanding of the technical details of the infrastructure to implement it. When you compare it with VMware, it is totally different because the graphical user interface is not that easy to understand. It is not intuitive. To use it, you have to read a lot of documentation and even understand what is going on behind the solution. It is not for someone who has a little bit of knowledge. Currently, it is too complex. I need something that is easy to implement. It should have a basic configuration as well as a complex configuration.""It should be more user-friendly, in my opinion."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."

  • "The pricing is on the high side and the subscription is renewed every year."
  • "We pay monthly for the use of Acronis Cyber Infrastructure. There are additional features that we use that have an extra fee."

  • "Red Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure is an open-sourced, low-cost solution with full features."
  • "It is quite pricey."
