I assess the scalability of Scality RING based on my experience with versions 6, 7, 8, and now 9, noting that a lot of work has clearly been done since the first version I deployed. There's been real progress in that area from Scality. In my usage context, I'm quite satisfied overall. Not all clients will necessarily feel the same. Everyone has their own usage context and level of expertise, which affects how well they understand and maintain things. I've never had issues with scalability. We've done version upgrades without any problems—whether OS-related or with Scality RING itself. There's always room for improvement. I won't say it was 100% smooth every time—we sometimes had to debug a bit—but we always got the job done. Importantly, we never impacted the quality of service for our clients

Operational Infrastructure Pilot at a energy/utilities company with 10,001+ employees

The features I tested thoroughly on Scality RING include data removal and recovery. I do know that the customer is satisfied with the functionality for sending and receiving large volumes compared to the architecture we have in place. The main factors are the cost, the resilience of the solution, its performance, and its capacity, which is expandable and therefore scalable. These are the aspects that are most important. We have virtually zero data loss thanks to this resilience. But beyond that, I think the main benefit for customers is the cost. The cost will also depend on how customers use it in relation to their business. Because some customers need backup, for example, which is not included in the offer we provide on Scality RING. Today, the Scality RING solution is spread across two sites, but its resilience means that data is not lost, depending on the status of the RING. When a server is lost, the data is still accessible. There is virtually unlimited volume. That's what we sell, because today's solutions are scalable. The customer doesn't have to worry about reaching a quota and then having to clean up or keep track of things on their end.

Scality RING has had a positive impact on our business in that we can store backups more securely than before even though this has nothing directly to do with Scality RING but also with an S3. We could have achieved this with any S3 in principle, but we decide to go with Scality RING due to partnerships with HPE, etc., which is definitely a good thing. But we haven't generated any growth from this because we don't use it as a platform as such, of course. In the context of ransomware threats and Scality RING's functionality, I say that on the one hand, it is completely open and only accessible via VEEAM, but we also use the S3 functionalities there so that we can use ransomware protection and mutability protection. Regarding our own data protection strategy with Scality RING, I say that we offer greater protection by saying that our data is better protected on a system that offers immutability and is indelible or non-erasable. From that perspective, we can say that it is even better stored when there is only one copy on a system and there is a second copy on an immutability system, which is almost equivalent to backing it up on tape and taking it offline, making it completely inaccessible. That's where we are from the VIM side, that's how we do it.
