What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
Replicated offers features that help reduce the implementation time, which is why we are considering using it. I used it for testing the environment with our use case. We were running in a cloud and used the Kubernetes options. We replicated it to host our web page and then removed it to the Kubernetes cluster again, which was working fine.
I did not have any problems during that process. The automated update is a good feature because you do not lose a lot of time during the entire process, and there is no stop phase or anything that could fail. When initially installing the product and then applying patches, we do not have any problems.
We tried to integrate Replicated with DevOps tools. We tested integrating with Azure DevOps and GitHub, and we did not have any problems at that time. We did not have GitLab or any other tool available.
What needs improvement?
The licensing cost could be improved, as some of the entitlements do not fit with the copies. Replicated could add new features that would make life easier or fix problems that need addressing.
They want to standardize and sell software licenses and enforce features or integrate with services that are needed, but at the end, it was not possible.
The compatibility matrix is an area for improvement because we needed to integrate with ARM64 processors that we were using at that time. Replicated does not integrate with ARM64 processors.
For how long have I used the solution?
I used Replicated in a previous project for a proof of concept. I have been using it for a couple of years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
As I was working with a proof of concept, I did not have any problems at that time. I think it could be a stable product, though I am not sure about the end result with a high workload.
How are customer service and support?
I contacted support using tickets. I can help provide all the information they require as soon as possible. I think the support is excellent because they reply fast. I would give the support a score of ten out of ten, with ten being the highest.
How was the initial setup?
The initial deployment was easy. It took about a day, though that was due to some internal bureaucracy in the company where we had to request special permissions. After that, everything was perfect. Once I had all the permissions and the user to execute, we could have done it in less time.
Replicated does not require any maintenance on my end unless you need to change something in the installation or configuration. Everything is documented step-by-step.
What about the implementation team?
I was a consultant at that time and was asked to help with the implementation, which I did.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We got Replicated from the AWS website. I remember we had most of the workloads on the Azure cloud. The reason we did not continue is because sometimes AWS is more expensive than the Azure cloud. Replicated is available on the AWS Marketplace, which is the app marketplace for AWS.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have never tried using any alternative solutions similar to Replicated.
What other advice do I have?
I worked with Azure from Microsoft and have some experience with AWS as well. Replicated is a good tool that enables all software vendors that want to package over the web. It is a commercial software that is working as expected, doing what they say it will help with. It has extra advantages that you do not have from open-source or free software. I gave Replicated a review rating of ten out of ten because I did not have any problems when I used it.
