Optimizing virtual environments by reclaiming and allocating resources efficiently
SolarWinds Virtualization Manager optimizes VM performance and virtualization. It provides me with recommendations for resource allocation, indicating if a virtual machine is under-provisioned or over-provisioned. This allows me to reclaim resources, such as reducing the number of CPU cores or RAM, which is beneficial. Its capacity planning feature is also very useful for me. The GUI is highly simplified, cutting across various virtualization platforms, including VMware, Hyper-V, and Nutanix environments.

Reliable with good support but needs a better navigation menu
We use Veeam Data to back up our VMware infrastructure Veeam Data Platform is valuable for its stability and the ability to easily contact support for assistance. The support team provides answers whenever we need them. It is also one of the most scalable backup solutions I've worked with. The…

"SolarWinds Virtualization Manager optimizes VM performance and virtualization."
"SolarWinds Virtualization Manager is a great tool that is easy to use...It is a stable solution."
"One thing we like about the product is that it's good and not as expensive as similar products. Right now, there are different ways to back up your information—you can back up directly to a disk or the cloud. It allows you to have various kinds of repositories."
"Instant recovery, ease of use, and integrations are some of the valuable features."
"The solution can work for companies no matter the size or scope."
"The most valuable features are the backup and restoration of our VMs. Additionally, they add features regularly."
"The most valuable feature of Veeam Backup & Replication is the ease of use."
"Its ease of use for restore is really good. For Exchange, the Exchange Active Directory is great."
"Provides lots of reporting and visualization of how much data has been transferred."
"Veeam ONE is a very good management product...The technical support is very good, and I think it's one of the best. The response time is very quick."
"It is the number one virtualization-layer platform available, and a lot of people trust it."
"You don't need too many people to manage the solution once it's up and running."
"It cuts down on hardware costs by being able to virtualize multiple hardware and multiple machines on a single piece of hardware."
"The most valuable features are the seamless HA with vMotion and being able to run vCenters in HA mode."
"This solution is very stable. It's scalable and simple to set up."
"Since it is riding inside of a multi-hardware environment, downtime is virtually nothing."
"This solution's most valuable feature is its High Availability."
"We have removed the need for backups and going to the office at three in the morning to change a server. I do everything during my business hours. It gave me my life back."

Cons

"The SolarWinds Virtualization Manager platform in general can have a better response time in the performance."
"SolarWinds needs to support integration with other virtualization platforms like KVM or Linux-based systems."
"SolarWinds needs to support integration with other virtualization platforms like KVM or Linux-based systems."
"The problem or issue with the product is related to its pricing."
"If they could add more support for all of the modern hypervisors, that would make Veeam much better and more flexible to work with. For example, there is no solution for VM to VM replication when it comes to Oracle OEM servers."
"The appliance doesn't have a domain. If there was a competitor with a domain, I'd likely use them."
"The cloud backups from Veeam Backup Replication have not been good. Addiotnaally, the backups of Office 365 and the overall performance can always be improved."
"It needs to support more applications. In terms of supported applications, Oracle SQL and Office 365 are supported, but I am not sure if it supports Linux-based applications. That's why I'm looking for an alternative. I am currently testing Commvault. The advantage of Commvault is that a lot of applications are supported with it. I am not sure if CIFS is currently supported. It would be nice to have this feature in case it is not already supported"
"The threshold could be easier to configure."
"I've never considered what improvements Veeam needs, and I haven't asked our customers if there is any room for improvement. As the manager, I only see the reports."
"Veeam doesn't have the reporting part quite right. Its data visualization isn't as slick as other solutions like Veritas. For example, in Veritas, you can see a calendar that shows you which days are backed up. Veeam lacks features like that."
"It's a great product, but only if you have everything virtualized."
"The price needs improvement. It is currently too expensive, which is a significant drawback of the solution."
"The technical support is not too bad, but not the best."
"The initial setup is a bit complex."
"We would like to see the container-based operating system launched soon for this solution."
"Its cost needs to be improved. It is very expensive as compared to other solutions."
"I would like to see a more automated upgrade, where you take the other products into account, so you can upgrade the entire VMware stack from a single interface."
"It would be ideal if they could integrate billing software so that clients can customize it directly on the virtual machine."
"It would be nice if it had auto-scaling, no need to select CPU or select database size. Let it auto-scale, let it use the features that VMware has, instead of having to preselect."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The is an annual subscription needed to use this solution."
"The maintenance and support are a part of the package, meaning it is included in the product's price."
"This solution requires a license and the organizations I was involved in were using an enterprise license."
"We pay on an annual basis. We pay roughly $12,000 for our software subscription."
"The licensing is based on the number of cores you have in your ESX or Hyper-V environment."
"The price of the solution is high."
"The product must improve its pricing."
"They could work at providing a better price."
"The cost is based on the number of core servers."
"This is not an expensive solution. It's on the cheaper side."
"Considering the number of users, it is pretty reasonable. I am not aware of any costs in addition to the licensing fees."
"In today's market, agility is the new currency. Without virtualization, and vSphere in particular, we wouldn't have the level of agility in the business that we have today."
"The solution requires a license and it could be cheaper."
"I think it's a fair price. We are using it on the production side, and everything is good from our experience. That's why I would say that the cost isn't too high. However, it would always be nice if it was cheaper."
"Pricing can still be improved for this solution."
"The price is high. It would be nice if VMware made a price reduction."
"The capital investment is high, but it is efficient."
"Licensing fees are not paid yearly, or monthly."

Replication: VMware vSphere vs. Veeam Backup
VMware introduced replication in vSphere 5.5. The biggest limitation is that it only provides a single restore point only. This is an immediate show stopper for most customers. Multiple restore points are absolutely essential, because just like "good" data, any corruption/virus/dataloss from the…
