Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product is stable and easy to set up. It provides minimum false alarms."
"The initial setup process is fairly simple, especially if you are only setting up a standalone instance."
"The most valuable features of the solution are the effectiveness of hardware availability and flexibility."
"The most valuable features of VMware Aria Operations include monitoring CPU, memory, and storage."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to get a view of our entire environment in a single pane of glass. We're a very large company, so going from one interface to another to troubleshoot an issue, or even just to get capacity information, is time-consuming and not efficient. Being able to go to one place and get that information is very helpful."
"Scalability is relatively simple. You just spin up a new appliance and you either add it to an existing vROps manager or you can create a new environment. You can forward statistics. If I have multiple data centers, I can spin up remote nodes and send our information back to our primary one."
"Ease of use and the ability to do what I need to do is very easy."
"It is easy to see when something has gone wrong. We just have to go in and fix it. The reduced time it takes to spot and fix an issue has improved my organization. It saves the amount of resources that we use to fix an incident"
"For me, it's the dashboard."

Cons

"Quest Foglight for Virtualization's integration needs enhancement."
"Monitoring is useful but if the solution can't automate or function without my input, it's a waste of my time. That's where I found out there are some issues with this product, there are elements that are not as intuitive as they could or should be."
"We haven't found it to be intuitive or user-friendly. We're on version 6.0, it's gotten better since but there's a lot of things we have to do under the hood to make it work how we want it to work. It doesn't work out of the box very well until it's been fine-tuned."
"Technical support is normally good but there is sometimes a delay in their response."
"We're on the 6.0 version, so it does lack a little bit of that intuitiveness. You have to have some experience with VMware to get around inside of it."
"I rated this solution an eight and not a ten because we work to give a multi-tenant product to our customers and vROps doesn't meet our needs."
"In a previous version, you could click on a cluster to see a lot of information about efficiency, e.g., when you will run out of memory, CPU usage, and RAM in percentages. In newer versions, you see this information in megahertz and kilobytes, not percentage. I don't like this change so much. If you need to present information to your boss or Director of IT, the information would be better with a percentage. Now, you have only a big number and don't know the percentage of use that you are getting from the VMs. I don't know why they changed it, but I liked the percentage version more than getting the numbers for megahertz of memory. Also, kilobytes of memory is a very large number. For a simple view, gigabytes or terabytes is better."
"We would like better integration with the cloud because we use a multi-vendor cloud. We use AWS, which is fine, but we also use Azure and Google. We would like better plugins to those other two providers."
"An area for improvement would be application-level monitoring."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is affordable."
"If you compare the prices of VMware and the cloud solutions along with the components that you may use, I feel that it may be costly."
"We have seen ROI in performance. It used to be our company was giving out eight CPUs to all servers. That was bad performance-wise. People were seeing slow compute times for their applications."
"The initial costs are a bit on the higher side but the licensing is flexible."
"If one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the product price an eight out of ten."
"The optimization is a huge return on investment alone."
"The billing is complicated because every country has a different option. Here in Chile, we don't pay for this kind of service with the Chilean pesos. We use another currency. In the future, I think vROps needs to work with governments for a native solution."
"When we last did a comparison of solutions, the pricing was equal or similar."
"So, besides the license overall, you have to pay for the type of support you want. With the license, there is a support cost as well."
