Helps us efficiently streamline repetitive tasks, but they could provide improved connectors to integrate with outside platforms
The OutSystems' most effective features for speeding up development cycles are the process orchestration and the drag-and-drop updating of business processes. I would recommend it to a friend or colleague, especially if they are looking for a solution that is easy to deploy and helps streamline internal processes. I rate it a six out of ten.

Good for automatically triggering workflows, but needs to be more customizable
We use this product for many different reasons related to our business We use it a lot for creating workflows to transfer materials between plants, which is a signature part of what we do. The most valuable feature is the ability to automatically trigger the workflow. This solution needs to be…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We can do the validation before calling the API."
"The scalability of OutSystems is very good, it scales automatically very useful for us."
"Integrations with external systems with SOAP and REST are easy to implement off-the-shelf, but a developer can always implement specific libraries for other integrations."
"OutSystems is easy to use."
"I find it to be a genuinely cool and effective platform for my development needs."
"The scratch coding is useful. The solution is easy to understand."
"One thing I like about OutSystems is that there's no lock-in. You can keep running your applications because it's on .NET and hosted centrally. That's one of the advantages I see there in terms of not having an IT strategy that has a dependency on a particular platform."
"The tool makes the development process easier."
"We use it a lot for creating workflows to transfer materials between plants, which is a signature part of what we do."

Cons

"The PDD framework can't be used for the behavioral-driven development way of working."
"The latest version of the app generation tools could be more user-friendly."
"The cons involve delays in project timelines primarily due to the time taken in requirements refinement and challenges faced when adding new features, making it somewhat complex to manage and maintain applications as they grow in scale."
"The largest obstacle currently associated with OutSystems is its high cost and limited availability of skilled personnel. Despite being a rapid application development platform, having a highly skilled individual familiar with the platform can be much more beneficial than an inexperienced individual. Because there is a shortage of people with the necessary OutSystems skills, utilizing the platform can become expensive. This makes little sense, considering that a rapid application development platform should be accessible to the average person. However, having a highly skilled individual can greatly increase productivity, making the cost worthwhile."
"I have difficulty in using several new features. Some of the product's features are tricky to use as well."
"We had some lagging issues under high data loads, and the solution needed to be customized to improve this."
"The dashboards in OutSystems could improve. There are a lot of tabs in the service center that can be confusing."
"OutSystems does not provide any native reporting resources. All reports must be created with other tools or as a webpage."
"This solution needs to be more customizable."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is not an expensive product, especially if you have access to more features and deal with more projects."
"The subscription is billed on a yearly basis."
"OutSystems was open to a deal that worked for both sides."
"The solution is expensive."
"I believe they are very strict with their pricing platforms, or the pricing policies, and it changes."
"OutSystems is expensive, and they changed the pricing model in the last couple of years. It's changing too much and it's becoming unstable. They are constantly shifting their prices based on users, courses, and other factors."
"It is very high price."
"The solution is expensive. The platform is not suitable for all of my clients. I work with labor unions and other smaller organizations that would not be able to afford the platform's current pricing model. It would be beneficial if there were a scaled-down version or a tiered pricing option that would allow me to build an app or a web app that is more cost-effective for my clients. Currently, the platform's pricing is too high for many of my clients, who would not be able to afford something in the $50,000 to $100,000 range."
