Provides great data on business growth as well as analytics for future business planning
The solution is particularly useful in terms of future business planning. It also helps with current data on business growth. As a cloud solution, this is one of the best. It has the IT Analytics and integrates well with big data analytics in ADW and Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse. There are some fantastic features. The solution also has the OBIEE component. I think it's a game changer.

Has many predefined correlation rules and is brilliant for investigation and log analysis
It is very complicated to write your own correlation rules without the help of Splunk support. What Splunk could do better is to create an API to the standard SIEM tools, such as Microsoft Sentinel. The idea would be to make it less painful. In ELK Stack, Kibana is the query language with which you can search log files. I believe Splunk has also a query language in which they search their log files, but once you have identified the log file that you want to use for further security correlation, you want to very quickly transport that into your SIEM tool, such as Microsoft Sentinel. That is something that Splunk could make a little bit less painful because it is a lot of effort to find that log file and forward it. An API with Microsoft Sentinel or a similar SIEM tool would be a good idea.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Particularly useful in terms of future business planning."
"We saw the granularity that we could get from Splunk far exceeded what we already had. We had the ability to have our security team really focus on the platform and stay within the platform, but they could correlate with a variety of other stakeholders, and our stakeholders were growing."
"I have also been able to take advantage of some of the more complex statistical capabilities when analyzing logs."
"There are lots of free learning materials on their website."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is a very useful application to collect all the logs and also to find out the problems. You can easily create whatever you want by using its features, and it also has the capability to collect from all kinds of different platforms. Splunk Enterprise Security provides me with all the alerts."
"The initial deployment was straightforward."
"Overall, Splunk is among the top three SIEM tools due to its capabilities and agility in bridging business analytics with security needs."
"The consolidated overview of all the events that come in through our environment and an easy-to-access interface for all our end users are valuable."
"It provides a risk score for each object, device, or user. We can then take action if they are at a higher risk."

Cons

"Could include more graphical dashboards and EVP access with other app solutions to build reporting dashboards."
"Splunk should align its security principles with those of other vendors like SentinelOne. Splunk has mature APIs that can communicate with various security applications and devices. Splunk can process more to produce an understandable dashboard."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is a wonderful solution, however, the background configuration process could be better as the administration process is very complicated."
"The product was difficult to back up the first time."
"It needs integration with a configuration management solution."
"Splunk Enterprise Security can be improved mainly from the user interface regarding the visualizations. They are working on it, yet there are only five to ten very basic visualizations."
"I would like to get visibility into the data pipelines on heavy forwarders and indexers to see exactly their source and the cause of saturation when it occurs. This would help us learn even more about our high use applications."
"Splunk Enterprise Security can be improved by including backup network detection and response and safe management to the paid platform."
"I'd love to see more integrations, which is one of the primary points of the key node with Splunk Enterprise Security."
