Pros
"Particularly useful in terms of future business planning."

"It is a one stop shop as a full monitoring and alerting solution for operations and application analysis for most of our back-end systems.""There are lots of free learning materials on their website.""Splunk setup is easy and straightforward. ""The feature that I have found most valuable with Splunk is the ability to sift through a bunch of data very quickly.""It is quite extensible. It is a platform that we can build our use instead of each case instead of each case being limited or restricted to each capability. This is probably the best feature.""What is nice about the solution is that it makes it easy to build the queries, search for the events and then do analysis.""The search function for spam is like a google search. You just enter and it will quickly show you the results.""The solution has proven to be quite stable."

Cons
"Could include more graphical dashboards and EVP access with other app solutions to build reporting dashboards."

"The only thing which can be improved is that they are too subjective on whom their Splunk4Good initiative can be applied. They market it as you only need to be a nonprofit, but there is more to it.""The difficult part is related to integration with sources of data that are used to create the logs as this depends on the infrastructure of the client.""Given the ever-increasing number of threats, I would like Splunk to update its threat signatures more frequently.""It takes time to train people.""The product was designed for security and IT with business intelligence needs, such as PDF exporting, but this has not been the highest priority. While the functionality is there, it could be developed more.""We find that the maintenance process could be a lot better.""Custom visualizations are real hard. While the default visualizations are good, creating enhanced visualizations are complex.""It is a good product, but the Achilles heel for a lot of organizations is the cost model for it because it gets expensive. That's because the model is based on how much data it processes a day, which can be prohibitive, especially if you have a lot of data. A lot of customers may not be ready for the sticker shock on how to fully leverage the product. I realized that the reason for that is that when it was originally designed, it was kind of like a big data modeling application. If they want to have a bigger customer base, they can come out with subsets of their product that are focused on specific things and have different pricing models. It may help with the cost."
