Performance issues have been identified and monitored effectively during peak hours
The weaknesses I would like to address in Oracle Enterprise Manager involve the dealing of Grid Infrastructure. Oracle Enterprise Manager's handling of Grid Infrastructure needs some improvement. I want to see additional features in the future that deal with security in relation to Oracle Grid Infrastructure. I want to improve these two components.

Monitoring has become streamlined and now supports complex enterprise workloads across all clouds
My advice to others looking into using Power Admin PA Server Monitor is that they should examine it carefully as it is a very good product. It has many parameters that you can configure and it is very efficient in power savings. I gave this product a rating of 9.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This solution allows us to quickly drill down when there are issues."
"Query tuning, historical graphs, real time statistics on query usage, easy to find blocking or locking queries, easy to kill queries, easy to add new datafiles to tablespaces about to run out of space, easy to explore table structure."
"The most valuable feature of OEM is that it goes hand-in-hand with our EDI, essentially allowing us to operate the SOA Suite solution on a management level."
"My company choose to use this product because I can see that it's going to be more aligned with the technology, with the cloud."
"The dashboards are great for gathering analytic information and seeing where the problems are."
"I mostly use the top events, and look at how the execution is happening on the database; and monitoring the cluster level rates. I even look at the execution plan."
"I would recommend learning and using OEM right away; it will cut down the time put in by DBAs a lot by using OEM."
"The tried and tested services that Oracle provides is second to none."
"Power Admin PA Server Monitor is super friendly and easy to use, very efficient, and powerful."
"The possibility to develop your own VB scripts."
"The satellite service installed on remote computers is an easy way to add clients, plus it's easy to deploy and to configure the licence is perpetual and not linked to one computer, so it's possible to remove a licence from one computer and use it on another with no extra cost"

Cons

"Still, there are lot of improvements that need to take place."
"The solution's agents work with Java, and the Java code sometimes consumes a lot of memory on the CPU."
"There are some monitoring tools, such as GoldenGate, that would be great if they could put them in OEM."
"It could improve in some areas like the screen. It's not so clear for the novice, when a new person looks at the screen he/she may not really understand where to start first."
"If you see the documentation, it's not really that much good."
"One of the drawbacks that I don't like is, quite often you'll see that the agent will show a status of Pending."
"We have encountered performance issues when the load is huge."
"We could use it but definitely with some effort we can streamline much better and sometimes some box here and there, like 13C you have to really wait, but there are great features. Just have to make sure it is a stable product."
"Basic monitoring on Unix was working really well but it didn't really help under machines in Windows Domain Controller."
"The satellite service installation file could be separated from the server one. It would reduce the size of the file, and reduce the time to deploy on weak connections."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The basic functions are free. You only pay license fees for advanced features."
"The pricing is very high."
"It's expensive."
"Initially, our deal was for three years, and we extended it to five years. Oracle solutions are very costly."
"We are satisfied with the pricing."
"As far as I know, you do not pay for Oracle Enterprise Manager separately. You can use Enterprise Manager for free if you already have an Oracle license for your database."
"Oracle Enterprise Manager is a free-of-cost solution. Oracle Enterprise Manager can be expensive only if you go for its licensing part."
"There are a few bugs with the software which require opening SRs with Oracle Support which contribute to the day-to-day cost. Perhaps 8 hours per month is spent dealing with support, just as a rough guess."
