Efficiently manage virtual machines with robust disaster recovery
Nutanix Prism is mainly used for our daily operations, similar to VMware. Despite the lack of extraordinary features, it efficiently manages our daily operations now that we are managing our VMs. One of the most useful features is the disaster recovery setup, which includes two clusters, one for our production server and another for our recovery site.
Ravi Khanchandani - PeerSpot reviewer
Optimizing virtual environments by reclaiming and allocating resources efficiently
SolarWinds Virtualization Manager optimizes VM performance and virtualization. It provides me with recommendations for resource allocation, indicating if a virtual machine is under-provisioned or over-provisioned. This allows me to reclaim resources, such as reducing the number of CPU cores or RAM, which is beneficial. Its capacity planning feature is also very useful for me. The GUI is highly simplified, cutting across various virtualization platforms, including VMware, Hyper-V, and Nutanix environments.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Everything has been valuable, without a doubt the server is self-managed with Prism in an efficient way, it solves possible logical errors to maintain production without interruptions, it's great."
"Its scalability is valuable. It's scalable and fast."
"The most valuable features are the dashboards."
"Prism is easy to scale."
"The most valuable features are Prism Central and the Disaster Recovery."
"Before implementing Prism, we had an issue with too many alerts for similar issues, so it was difficult to maintain them. The alerts kept coming, and we had a hard time keeping track of everything. We had multiple alerts about CPU, RAM, and storage. Prism helps us identify and eliminate false alerts because most of them were redundant."
"The automation part for Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is great."
"The auto-update option is a valuable feature for us."
"SolarWinds Virtualization Manager is a great tool that is easy to use...It is a stable solution."
"The most valuable features of SolarWinds Virtualization Manager are the non-Windows servers' monitoring and capacity planning."
"SolarWinds Virtualization Manager optimizes VM performance and virtualization."
"SolarWinds Virtualization Manager optimizes VM performance and virtualization."

Cons

"The cost is a negative aspect."
"The price could be improved."
"The stability has room for improvement."
"One problem I faced when creating a VM and adding a hard disk to is that Nutanix Prism did not allow me to reduce that VM's hard disk."
"Nutanix Prism needs more flexibility commercially and more flexibility with their licensing. Currently they're very fixed on their licensing model, for example, it's based on terabyte calculation."
"One thing I would like to see is one-click migration. I know that's on the roadmap, but we don't have it yet."
"When we get a request from a user for a file-level recovery, there are self-recovery options, but they only work if the replication is available to that cluster locally... In VMware, we could restore a VM and attach the hard drive to any other server and copy the file easily. But that kind of facility is not available in AHV."
"The dashboard visibility could be improved."
"SolarWinds needs to support integration with other virtualization platforms like KVM or Linux-based systems."
"The problem or issue with the product is related to its pricing."
"The SolarWinds Virtualization Manager platform in general can have a better response time in the performance."
"SolarWinds needs to support integration with other virtualization platforms like KVM or Linux-based systems."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The license we bought for Nutanix Prism is perpetual, so once you have it, you can keep on using it. It's a three-year license that's paid one time. The license we have covers the three-node cluster."
"The pricing is comparable to other software initiatives."
"The good thing about Nutanix Prism is that we don't have to pay for a hypervisor, but their licensing cost is a little bit on the high side."
"Prism is cheaper compared to competitors like Cisco HyperFlex or HP vSAN."
"The licensing aspect is painful. We are told, "This is when you have to renew. This is the serial number and the part number," et cetera. But it's difficult to know where something belongs unless you dive into the portal and search in multiple areas for a particular serial number."
"As far as pricing goes, it's competitive for what you get. There are probably less expensive hyper-converged solutions, but I don't think they're as mature or have the feature set that we get with Nutanix."
"Nutanix is a little pricier, but the features it has are worth it."
"Nutanix Prism's cost is reasonable."
"The is an annual subscription needed to use this solution."
"The maintenance and support are a part of the package, meaning it is included in the product's price."
