Hybrid data sync has minimized downtime and supports large cloud migrations efficiently

NetApp Cloud Sync is a very good product. When it comes to improvement, more detailed reporting and analytics can be available with richer dashboards for transfer performance, bandwidth usage, failed files, and historic trends. Smart handling of errors, such as clearer explanations for failed syncs and more actionable troubleshoot guidance, is needed as well. More granular scheduling and policy controls such as advanced filtering, bandwidth throttling by time of day, and finer control over sync behavior are also areas for improvement. Expanding cloud and storage integration would make it easier to connect to additional storage platforms and emerging cloud services. Lower source storage usage for the data broker and improved performance when synchronizing very large file systems containing millions of small files would be beneficial. Lastly, more automation options such as richer API and webhooks for tighter integration with infrastructure as code or DevOps workflows are also needed.

Real-time data streaming has simplified transformations and kept enterprise databases synchronized

Oracle GoldenGate is good, but I would like to improve it. There is a need for whoever installs and configures Oracle GoldenGate to set the correct parameters for the use cases we need to use. In some cases, we had performance problems related to the streaming because there was a lot of information to stream concurrently. However, you can tune Oracle GoldenGate to use more RAM on the source side or more processes. I think that sometimes what is missing is knowledge about the tool from the person responsible for configuration. At this moment, Oracle GoldenGate is a very good tool, and I do not know in which area we can improve it. Perhaps the debug part of the tool could be improved. In some cases, I use the utility for how Oracle GoldenGate generates messages about the statements that it streams because of bugs, and in some cases, it is not very user-friendly. It may be possible to improve the API or the path related to debugging, but not the tool itself. The tool itself is good. I remember that in some configurations, we had problems with the streaming of DDL, which are changes to Oracle object structures such as tables and procedures. A new feature could be to perform streaming for operational objects such as procedures, functions, packages, or grants. This would synchronize source and target for these aspects, not only for data or the main types of structures, but also for others. I remember that there was some configuration in which you performed the streaming of the entire schema, or if you performed streaming for only tables, then you were unable to stream grants and other Oracle objects. I think it is important to introduce that capability.

"The one feature that I think Oracle could perhaps consider is, at the moment, the Veridata option is an extra cost. Golden Gate is an expensive product. You pay a lot for the best. But not including the Veridata license to prove that everything is working correctly... The big improvement for me would be to have that license built in. That would take it to the next level. That would make it a much better product. You may want to look at buying term licenses if you've just got a single migration to do. In that situation, you might want a term license for perhaps a year to save a lot of money, rather than buying a perpetual license."
