Great at managing cyber incidents; the technical support could be improved
The initial setup is easy, partly because LogRhythm is primarily based on the Windows platform. It's good to have two engineers for deployment but it can be done with one. It's more about the knowledge. Deployment is typically done in two or three different phases. It usually takes up to three full months to get good deployment. There's the initial onboarding of all the log sources, then collecting data in the data lake, followed a couple of weeks later with some minor tuning before the final tuneup.

The visibility and analytics from Securonix SIEM have become indispensable in identifying and stopping potential threats before they escalate.
The most valuable feature of Securonix Next-Gen SIEM is its advance analytics, flexibility and scalability. We ingest billions of logs without worrying about resource allocation. This makes it a robust and cost-effective solution for our needs. Its user entity and behavior analytics (UEBA) are also integral for detecting insider threats and lateral movements within the organization. These features help organizations strengthen their security posture, protect sensitive data, and maintain compliance with strict regulatory requirements.

Innovative detection features enhance monitoring
The advantages of the integration are not entirely out-of-the-box. You have to do it manually. When I'm doing tier response, an out-of-the-box solution is not available. You need to have a Linux server, and from the Linux server, you must perform AI tasks, and there is a lot to be handled in the back end. This is a major consideration about them. The recall feature, if it can be placed in some areas instead of the cloud, and charged for, would be better. Recall the storage where you watch all the traffic, and you can recall it and try to analyze it in the back end. It’s cloud-based. If they offer it on-prem, it would be better. I think they have a solution, but I have never tested it, to be honest with you.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"LogRhythm UEBA’s best feature is the dashboard. It provides several graphs, charts, and event logs."
"It has a lot of features. It has file integration monitoring."
"The solution's most valuable features are the graphical user interface and the reporting."
"I typically use the product for reducing cyber risk, and I can investigate attacks more quickly using machine learning tools."
"What I like most about LogRhythm UEBA is that it allows you to identify and analyze end-user behaviors and suspicious activities within the systems."
"It is easy to monitor users and that is how the solution is adding value to our firm."
"I can investigate attacks more quickly using machine learning tools."
"The most valuable features are file activity monitoring and registry activity monitoring."
"When we were looking for products for our security monitoring needs, our biggest requirement was that we wanted something based on machine-learning and analytics. If you go with rules, it can raise a lot of noise. Securonix, with its UEBA capability, had the best analytics use-cases."
"We can customize our use cases with the tools provided by Securonix. It is an excellent tool that can ingest data in different ways and is very flexible."
"The UEBA functionality indicates a lot about behaviors that are not found through a traditional SIEM. We have exploited that more than anything since we started using it."
"We can select the resource group name or functionality directly of which type of security tool logs we want. We don't need to write the query for that; we just have to select."
"One of the most valuable features is the integration of all types of data sources to extract relevant information regarding events. It is a good solution when it comes to the correlations that it makes within all the data handled in our company."
"I find customer service to be very good."
"Its console is very easy to use and configure. It is very intuitive for our use cases. App integrations are also pretty nice."
"[The solution has] incident-management or case-management functionality. If someone were to download a high number and we decided we needed to investigate it, I could open a case right in the tool. It would be able to directly reference the data that they downloaded and we could open and shut the case directly in the tool, as well as report from it."
"Scalability wise, we have many sensors, and Vectra AI seems to handle them all very well."
"One of the key advantages for us is we define a 24/7 service around it. We use far more of Vectra alerts than we do with our SIEM product because we understand that when we get an alert from Vectra we actually need to do something about it."
"The key feature for me for Detect for Office 365 is that it can also concentrate all the information and detection at one point, the same as the network solution does. This is the key feature for me because, while accessing data from Office 365 is possible using Microsoft interfaces, they are not really user-friendly and are quite confusing to use. But Detect for Office 365 is aggregating all the info, and it's only the interesting stuff."
"It keeps up with the network traffic, which is a good thing. It provides more context to plain alerts compared to using an older system. So, it helps an analyst reduce the information overload."
"The most useful feature is the anomaly detection because it's not signature-based. It picks up the initial part of any attack, like the recon and those aspects of the kill chain, very well."
"The solution provide visibility into behaviors across the full lifecycle of an attack in our network, beyond just the Internet gateway. It makes our security operations much more effective because we are now looking not just at traffic on the border, but we're looking at east-west internal traffic. Now, not only will we see if an exploit kit is being downloaded, but we would be able to see then if that exploit kit was then laterally distributed into our environment."
"It gives you access, with Recall, to instant visibility into your network through something like a SIEM solution. For us, being able to correlate all of this network data without having to manage it, has provided immediate value. It gives us the ability to really work on the stuff where I and my team have expertise, instead of having to manage a SIEM solution..."
"The automatic filtering that they provide is valuable. The logic inside that makes some detections instead of us is very useful. We are confident that if we are just looking into it and there is nothing, nothing could happen."

Cons

"The on-premises LogRhythm is not very scalable. When considering packets per second or the MPS needed for additional logs such as web application logs, scalability is usually found in cloud products."
"In general, if something needs to be improved in the algorithm, it would be the dashboards."
"It would be helpful if there were more guidance provided for integrating with unsupported devices."
"The product could be user-friendly for someone who doesn’t have any prior experience working with it."
"LogRhythm UEBA's data aggregation needs to be improved. Open-source users do not have much documentation available. Documentation is available only for enterprise users."
"The UI could be improved a little bit."
"The search feature needs to be improved."
"It should have better mitigation with other solutions and be tightly integrated with other solutions. It has to be improved."
"A helpful feature would be an event export. A way to create more substantial summary reports would be nice."
"When they did upgrades or applied patches, sometimes, there was downtime, which required the backfill of data. There were times when we had to reach out and get a lot of things validated."
"The passing and setup are quite complex at the beginning, making onboarding not smooth, which is an area that needs improvement."
"Securonix Next-Gen SIEM's deployment is complex and you need a team to do it."
"We would like to see better integration with other products."
"One of the things they can improve on a little bit is the usability side, to make some things simpler... The tool does have a lot of knobs, you can turn a lot of things on and off and you can change things. Sometimes, it can become a little overwhelming. They should remove some confirmation options and make it simpler for the less mature customers and people who are still trying to grasp it."
"Regarding the analysis of security events on the SOC side, Securonix Next-Gen SIEM needs to improve its automation capabilities."
"The passing and setup are quite complex at the beginning, making onboarding not smooth, which is an area that needs improvement."
"The rules for threats are not always precise and Vectra AI should improve this."
"Neither Vectra nor Darktrace have a function like a status health check on my log sources and traffic sources."
"There could be an option where Vectra manages the solution remotely, and when there is an attack, there could be a notification center to give us information about the attack."
"We have had a few issues with the integration of Vectra AI with EDR. Some filters have not been working. We've also had issues with the brain not being powerful enough."
"Some of their integrations with other sources of data, like external threat feeds, took a bit more work than I had hoped to get integrated."
"For S&D account scans, it would be easier if Vectra AI could triage with users. If a client uses a lot of accounts, then it could indicate that these accounts are benign, for example. That would help a lot."
"An area for improvement in Vectra AI is reporting because it currently needs some details. For example, when you download a report from Vectra AI, you won't see complete information about the alerts or triggers. Another area for improvement in the tool is that sometimes, an alert has high severity, yet it's marked as low severity. Vectra AI should have a mechanism to change the severity level from low to high or critical."
"If you hit a certain number of rules, triage filters, or groups, the UX responds more slowly. However, we have a complex network and a lot of rules. So, our setup might not be a typical implementation example. We even had UX engineers onsite, and they looked at issues, improvements, and user feedback. Since then, it has gotten a lot better, they even built in features that we specifically requested for our company."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"LogRhythm UEBA's pricing is affordable for small and medium businesses."
"It is quite a budget-friendly product."
"The pricing is nice when compared to other products in the industry."
"I rate the product's pricing a three out of ten. However, the cloud version is expensive. You need to hire professional services for deployment and migrations, which can be expensive."
"Licensing is on a yearly basis. It's not expensive compared to its competitors."
"As LogRhythm UEBA is pretty expensive, I'd give its pricing a seven out of ten."
"The pricing is fine compared to the market but I think that at some point the competitors will catch up on price."
"A good thing about Securonix is that they don't charge by volume of data or number of devices... They charge by the number of employees, which is a much more predictable number for me, versus data. Our costs are in the $100,000 range over a three-year subscription."
"I rate the pricing an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is very expensive. It is a pretty expensive tool."
"We have an annual license. We pay $200,000 for the base licensing and we pay another $50,000 for the software as a service."
"Its price is fine. We found it to be cheaper than LogRhythm, Exabeam, Splunk, as well as Elastic Security. A few months ago, when we were comparing Securonix with Elastic Security, we found Securonix to be cheaper than Elasticsearch. We were pretty surprised that Elastic Security is more expensive than Securonix because Elasticsearch is just starting, and it cannot compete with Securonix at this time. So, the pricing of Securonix is pretty good for now."
"The pricing is good, but by adding more things, the licensing becomes more complex because an EPS license fluctuates a lot. This licensing concept is going to be problematic in the long run."
"We went in on a three-year agreement which has an annual licensing fee, based upon the number of people that we're monitoring. There have not been any additional costs to the standard licensing fees."
"The solution's price is double the competitors."
"The solution is low-cost and affordable."
"It is an expensive solution, but it's not the most expensive we've seen. We also know how much we're going to pay, unlike with some other providers where all of a sudden our license explodes."
"Vectra AI is not a cheap solution."
"It's relatively on the pricier side, but when compared to other solutions. It's not the most budget-friendly option, but it can be considered somewhat more cost-effective in comparison to other alternatives."
"Vectra's pricing is too high. All schools will not be able to afford it. Vectra will only end up targeting higher education and higher value independence purely because of the price. A lot of schools would love to have a product like Vectra AI, but they simply can't because they struggle to even pay the high E5 licensing from Microsoft. When you're up against that, Vectra AI is never going to be within the sector's price range."
"We are running at about 90,000 pounds per year. The solution is a licensed cost. The hardware that they gave us was pretty much next to nothing. It is the license that we're paying for."
"We have a desire to increase our use. However, it all comes down to budget. It's a very expensive tool that is very difficult to prove business support for. We would like to have two separate networks. We have our corporate network and PCI network, which is segregated due to payment processing. We don't have it for deployed in the PCI network. It would be good to have it fully deployed there to provide us with additional monitoring and control, but the cost associated with their licensing model makes it prohibitively expensive to deploy."
"The upfront pricing model that we have would have been more beneficial if it had been a recurring license fee, but that wasn't a massive issue for us. It's fairly priced."
