We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"StarWind vSAN has allowed us to grow rapidly while still providing flexibility and reliability.""It has been extremely stable for the three years we've been running it.""Being hardware agnostic is a must and definitely scored points for us.""It has given the company an almost zero possibility of downtime.""This has helped to improve the reliability of service and operation in all departments, without having to stop in case of emergency situations.""It has allowed me to effectively and confidently manage the maintenance of hosts where I can power off a host and have its VMs migrate to another one.""It allows you to use ANY consumer or enterprise HDDs and SSDs, and that's a really great thing!""The fact that I can now count on a true failover solution is what is most appealing."

"The most valuable features of the Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series are the ease of use and simple configuration.""The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that the product's deployment phase is pretty easy.""The initial setup is simple. We were able to deliver the hyper-convergence solution in a very good time."

More Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series Pros →

"The size of the hardware is what we need because it is very good for small configurations.""I like that you can add other types of services.""The most useful feature is the solution's automation in terms of how we are able to spin up a certain workload in real-time when we are doing R&D.""The consolidation of the management in one control point is the most valuable. The whole infrastructure management is consolidated in just one console point. The documentation is also pretty good.""It is stable and scalable.""Both the scalability and stability of this solution are excellent."

Cons
"I see no need for major improvements but there could be some improvements in the form of notifications and the simplifying of maintenance mode.""I wish there was online support because email return takes a long time and a faster solution should be found.""For someone entering the IT sector with little knowledge of storage, iSCSI, and virtual disks, they might not find the GUI immediately obvious.""If there was one thing we could request, it would be the ability to shrink volumes. For example, we want to be able to decrease in the size of the volume.""It would be great if the Linux version of the management console offered the same features as Windows.""With data verification, I would like to know how does the solution perform validation of data being synced between two VSANs.""When you will cease your contract with StarWind (for support) your product won't be updated and that is a big selling point, especially for us, as we have loads of products from StarWind.""I'd love to see more clarification for us folks who are smart enough to do some damage yet not smart enough to use CLI."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series could improve by having better integration with the solutions from VMware and vCenter""There is a delay in the availability of similar versions of firmware from both the products, which are VMware and Nutanix for Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series, due to the delayed releases from both products, maybe by a quarter or so.""Here in Nigeria, the only challenge that we have, which I think is also experienced globally is the delay in bringing in the spare parts. This is a challenge facing our country, such as the Forex market. However, this is beyond the control of Lenovo themselves."

More Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series Cons →

"It should be more user-friendly, in my opinion.""This product is not so stable. Maybe it is just not mature enough in its development.""The licensing policy needs to be improved. They have a licensing policy based on the number of CPU sockets. Nowadays what has happened is that the license they are trying to move is based on the number of CPU cores. With the advancement in technology there are now more cores in a single CPU. It's been very challenging in terms of managing the license around everything. Today we have a processor with 24 and 32 cores on the same physical CPU.""The cloud deployment could be improved.""It is not user-friendly, and it is very difficult to operate. You have to have a deep understanding of the technical details of the infrastructure to implement it. When you compare it with VMware, it is totally different because the graphical user interface is not that easy to understand. It is not intuitive. To use it, you have to read a lot of documentation and even understand what is going on behind the solution. It is not for someone who has a little bit of knowledge. Currently, it is too complex. I need something that is easy to implement. It should have a basic configuration as well as a complex configuration.""The main issue is the initial investment. It is an expensive product, and it should be cheaper. It should also be easier to use and manage. The professional service for this solution is quite complex and expensive."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."

  • "When comparing this solution to other OEM solutions it is relatively inexpensive."
  • "Price-wise, it is a pretty good product. The product's price was one of the main criteria that made my company choose it over the other products in the market."
