A stable solution that provides visibility into user journeys and enables the filing of RCA reports
The initial setup was really easy. There were some calls that we had to integrate into our code. Instabug was easy to integrate with our app. If we needed special logs for some calls to check the response rate of some end-to-end procedures, we could also integrate them. There were some APIs we could use for end-to-end integration. The product was deployed on Bitbucket. The beta app was deployed in our local environment. The deployment process was not time-consuming. The production phase took a day. It was just a one-time effort. For the beta app, we had to do it multiple times, but it was easy to deploy.

Application performance management and error resolution improved with data-driven insights
Dynatrace has multiple functions compared to Splunk AppDynamics, so Splunk AppDynamics should add those functions, which are not available as of now. Dynatrace has a universal agent that collects all information related to their CI, and if one CI has multiple languages, then there is no need to instrument multiple agents. However, Splunk AppDynamics requires multiple agents; if I have one server with multiple applications in different languages, then I need to instrument different agents for each application. Splunk AppDynamics should work with Dynatrace with one single universal agent that works with all application languages, eliminating the need for multiple implementations.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I would rate the stability a nine out of ten."
"The product makes it very easy to reproduce issues."
"I think the performance and interface are the most important features."
"Transition tracing is the most valuable is pretty easy and useful, but the user experience piece is also good."
"To be honest, it's a fantastic product."
"This solution not only provides answers but also provides sensor data. This allows us to quickly resolve issues that developers may take a long time to solve."
"What I like most about AppDynamics Server Monitoring is that it's easy to manipulate and easy to implement. All solutions have the same features, but what sets AppDynamics Server Monitoring apart is that it's really quick to implement. AppDynamics Server Monitoring has a great interface. As a developer, it doesn't matter whether it's SolarWinds, Dynatrace, or any APM you're using, but it would matter to the customer. A product must be easy to manipulate or use, for example, AppDynamics Server Monitoring, for the customer, but for developers like my team, there's no pressure, even if a solution requires coding."
"Visibility to the end-users is a valuable feature."
"It provides a lot of data, so it helps businesses identify their user base."
"It's pretty stable."

Cons

"The end users were not able to report bugs."
"It would be beneficial if the tool could be more precise in capturing steps, focusing only on the relevant ones. For example, there were some times when it caught some extra screenshots which were not included in the steps. Sometimes, it also happened that it got some extra steps that were not in there to reproduce the bug. We also called that screenshot and the steps there as well."
"It could do with more than one data centre/multiple AWS accounts in a pane of glass. Also, improved scalability to large environments would be helpful."
"The integration ability of AppDynamics with other performance testing tools is an area with shortcomings where improvements are required."
"If it can be able to intelligently provide all the things we need to look at, from a data point of view, that would be very useful."
"The user access management could be a bit better."
"Splunk AppDynamics provides an end-to-end view of the application but misses the infrastructure part, which is crucial."
"Product-wise, everything is good, but the main concern is the extensions and their documentation, particularly for the installation of Azure app services."
"The training on the dashboards that is provided could be a little bit better, as could the use cases. They should have some good examples out there. As it is right now, I had to scour YouTube to find some stuff."
"The agent deployment could be simplified by, for example, adding a GUI."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"AppDynamics Database Monitoring requires a license for database monitoring and other features, while Dynatrace provides monitoring and other features out of the box without additional costs. Sometimes this makes it more challenging to pitch AppDynamics Database Monitoring to customers, especially because you need to buy a separate license. As an implementer, I have yet to learn about the pricing for AppDynamics Database Monitoring. Pricing is taken care of by the sales team."
"AppDynamics Server Monitoring is a very expensive product, but if you negotiate well, you get value for money...My company used to make early payments toward the licensing costs of the solution, but now my company has opted for a different licensing model."
"AppDynamics Server Monitoring is an expensive solution."
"We find its pricing reasonable and competitive. After it was acquired by Cisco, we found it acceptable."
"The pricing for AppDynamics is expensive, but it is possible to negotiate special pricing through bids."
"The way it is structured in terms of price could be better. You pay for individual modules and that adds on to the cost, which detracts you from implementing those modules and slows you down."
"AppDynamics offers a yearly basis license."
"The pricing of the solution is reasonable for what features you receive."
