Helpful in handling areas like complex data sources and data processing but needs improved support services
The major challenge with the tool stems from the fact that if you are implementing it in the cloud, then it has to be within the framework. Another challenge is the large volume of data. Informatica PowerExchange is a product through which we enable connectivity, so it is not an application product or a stand-alone tool, but Informatica's core systems or IICS uses it to connect to multiple systems. The major challenge associated with the tool is on the infrastructure side. The tool's features could be something faster with more connectors. A number of connectors can help connect to a wide variety of applications. The tool should focus on reducing the resilient time, like, if any network disconnectivity happens, then auto-reconnection and the retry method should be more robust so that manual intervention is not required. We communicate with the tool's support team as we need to raise our issues with them. I have already worked with Informatica and have a total experience of around eight to nine years; the one problem with the tool is its support team since they take a lot of time to address a particular issue. If one time you schedule a call and explain the situation to them about the issue, the support team will raise tickets and take notes. They will ask you to share the logs or screenshots of the errors, and you will get no resolution. The support team will randomly give you some documents and expect you to go through them, and if you get back to them with questions, a new person will be allocated, and you will have to start explaining everything again. I would not say it is a pleasant experience.

User-friendly interface facilitates efficient data migration and reduces operational overhead
Its usability and ease of use are standout features. It is really easy to use - almost too easy at times. Users don't have to be experts to use their tool set and utilize the clicking mechanisms, drop down boxes, and other features to build a package and run it. The configuration is very easy and the system is very stable. I would rate it at a 10 as it is highly reliable; we have never had any problems with it. Very little maintenance is required on my side. While you need to keep the product up to date, the maintenance requirements are minimal. SSIS integrates with all Microsoft tools seamlessly. We have used it against Oracle, DB2 and SQL. It integrates and can move data around from any data platforms, making it very diverse in that standpoint. It is a very robust tool that can work with many data sources, and its main strength is that it is extremely easy to use.

Has supported building flexible data pipelines and streamlined ETL orchestration
There should be a dedicated support team for Talend Open Studio. We do have a support team, but at times it is critical for us to fix certain things within one or two hours. Usually, the support team takes some 12 hours, which is the standard edition of support. If we could have round-the-clock support, we would be able to resolve many issues which we encounter during the development part. The initial setup for Talend Open Studio is a little complex. We need to have a dedicated person who has an understanding of Talend Open Studio as a tool. It takes some level of expertise, so it is not an easy process, but once we have a dedicated associate who is knowledgeable in that particular field, it becomes comparatively easier.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The user interface and user experience are perfectly all right."
"Overall, it's a good tool. It's currently number one on the market. It pretty much has all the necessary capabilities to pull the incremental data from the source system, technically speaking."
"PowerExchange is one of the best software solutions to build integrations with non-Oracle or standard database services, especially for SAP and Hana products."
"The product's initial setup phase was not complex. The tool is easy to install onto any of the servers, and you can integrate it."
"The main benefit of PowerExchange is its native real-time capabilities. Competing tools are counting on third-party packages or Oracle to offer real-time capabilities. However, Informatica has a native ability to scan the data on the file system level and capture the changes almost instantly when I push it to the consumers. The solution has a powerful built-in replication engine."
"This product is easy to install and it can be done in a few hours."
"The solution can connect to different systems i.e. mainframe, IMS or AS/400 Legacy Systems."
"Mainstream integration and real-time integration are the best features."
"The most important features are it works well and provides self-service BI."
"SSIS is easy to use."
"The solution is easy to use and developer friendly."
"The most valuables features are the relatively short learning curve, and the automation capabilities provided through the BIML add-in for SSDT."
"The main value of any Microsoft product is the ease of use. You can achieve more with less time. That's what's beneficial for me. With many competitors, you might need to spend more time coming up with a solution because you have to focus on taking care of the product."
"Data Flows are the main component we use. These can range from a simple source to sink ETL, to many source to many sink dataflows."
"SSIS integrates well with SQL servers and Microsoft products."
"The setup was easy. All Microsoft products are easy to set up."
"You can use Talend SDK to develop your own components and add them to the product."
"Stability feels fine."
"The most valuable features are the ETL tools."
"The most valuable feature of Talend Open Studio is the tMap component. There is a lot of functionality in one component."
"Talend Open Studio's installation process is easy. One just needs to install Java before installing the product"
"The data integration aspect of the solution is excellent."
"There are many architectures: hybrid, cloud, and on-prem."
"This solution has improved our overall time to value for data ingestion."

Cons

"Pushdown optimization could be improved."
"The connectivity with T24 core banking could be improved."
"I would like to have easier integration with cloud platforms."
"One area that could be improved is performance, as PowerExchange sometimes has less performance compared to native connectors when dealing with a huge volume of data."
"V10.2 is very stable, but we are still struggling to make V10.5 stable. We found services that were down, and PowerExchange stopped working."
"They should make it quick and easy for use of citizen data integration or for people or integrators developing at the customer side. They could be development teams within the business team. For them, the product owners can consider making it a little bit more seamless and a little bit more democratized."
"Integration with the largest number of databases and other systems would be important."
"Informatica is very expensive in all aspects, so the pricing is something that could be improved."
"SSIS should be made a little bit more intuitive and user-friendly because it needs an expert-level person to work on it."
"Improving the login procedure would make our reporting easier on monitoring our ETL processes."
"Generic processes should be used instead of custom code for each table."
"SSIS has room for improvement, mainly because the overall package can be buggy. It often locks up, requiring a restart, which is annoying. However, since it's free, we tolerate these performance issues. I'd like to see better debugging tools in future releases and improvements in API calls; It would be helpful if SSIS had a built-in API engine so we wouldn't have to rely solely on database connections."
"Microsoft's technical support has decreased in quality over the last few years, becoming less responsive and tending to pass problems on instead of solving them."
"The creation of the measure in the DAC's model could be improved."
"Video training would be a helpful addition."
"The debugging could be improved because when it came to solving the errors that I've experienced in the past, I've had to look at the documentation for more information."
"If I compare Open Studion to other solutions, their interface is robust but not so fancy looking. This is an area that could use improvement. I would like to see an updated interface."
"The server-side should be completely revamped."
"As for improvement or additional features, I would like to know how to use Java in Talend and also how to use Talend in the cloud or in big data. I would prefer to have storage directly on Talend."
"We need more components to be more efficient. We use a lot of components, such as Salesforce, and it's not easy to use. There's are minor bugs and it's not easy to use some of the features."
"We don't get continuous replication of the data."
"The pricing could be lower. They should work to make it more affordable."
"The price for Talend Data Integration should be less expensive."
"The security features could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Many users don't prefer to use the product, considering the high costs attached to the licensing part of the solution."
"There is a need to pay towards the licensing cost of the product. It is an expensive product."
"An annual package license fee is required."
"The product is not very expensive."
"The cost of PowerExchange is reasonable. It does not rely on complicated formulas or unrealistic equations. The pricing model is straightforward. There is one component, and real-time integration is included. Some other solutions require purchasing additional modules or third-party plugins for this capability."
"It's expensive. In fact, nobody would buy any product of Informatica if the price was the only consideration. It costs money, and it doesn't come cheap, but it provides value for money in many ways."
"There are licensing and connector costs. Basically, Informatica is pay-as-you-use."
"This solution has provided an inexpensive tool, and it is easy to find experienced developers."
"Based on my experience and understanding, Talend comes out to be a little bit expensive as compared to SSIS. The average cost of having Talend with Talend Management Console is around 72K per region, which is much higher than SSIS. SSIS works very well with Microsoft technologies, and if you have Microsoft technologies, it is not really expensive to have SSIS. If you have SQL Server, SSIS is free."
"The solution is economical. You don't have to worry about the pricing as long as you're installing both services on the same server."
"All of my clients have this product included as part of their Microsoft license."
"t's incredibly cost effective, easy to learn the basics quickly (although like all ETL tools requires the traditional learning curve to get good at) and has an immense user base."
"SSIS is fairly well-priced - I would rate it at four out of five."
"SSIS is a cheaper option compared to the cost of other ETL tools."
"We have an enterprise license for this solution."
"We are using the free version of the tool, because the enterprise version is a little expensive."
"Price could be lower. It is getting too expensive when compared to some other solutions, which is actually a little bit concerning."
"The cost for one year for the ETL tools, not for the big data, is 6K per year. It is a good price."
"It is an open-source product."
"It does the job well for nothing — without cost. That's the advantage of this product."
"Talend Open Studio is priced too high."
"Right now, because we're using the open-source version, there's no cost."
"The cost, particularly in Africa, is quite high."
