We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"What I like about IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is its integration, plus it has very good technical support.""A full-featured data protection solution that is reliable and stable.""Using this tool, we can easily backup and restore or recover the data for PCs and mobiles in case of system crashes.""The support from IBM is very good.""The solution's stability is high because it is derived from Spectrum Protect.""This solution is very stable and has good support available online.""The solution is scalable.""The solution offers a very straightforward deployment. You click, click, click and it's done. There's not much configuration to do."

"One of the most valuable features was the usability, since many of the features were very straightforward. The backup and restoration process was also very fast. Although we weren't able to fully test the scenarios, one of the features was that we could have it restored on a remote site. However, since we were on-prem, we weren't able to test the remote site restoration.""When it comes to recovering what you need from a backup, it's really easy. You just drill through the directory, find the file and the date that you want, and click to recover. You then pick the directory you want to save it in. Usually, it takes a minute or two and it's done. It's quick and easy.""Quorum OnQ has a good ransomware protection feature, and customer service and support were very good.""The most valuable feature is spinning up a ready-to-go VM in a test or production environment that is based on a backup stored on the Quorum device.""A very high level security environment for secondary data.""The change in the way that Quorum processes data has made a tremendous improvement in backup and replication times. While the familiar interface remains, the underpinnings have been finely tuned and the speed is incredible. My large Exchange Server went from 5- to 6-hour backups down to 22 minutes.""Being able to spin up a machine in a sandbox is amazing because it allows us to test things that we otherwise would not be able to do.""One of the biggest features is that, even on the absolutely run-of-the-mill box, if I lose any one of my servers I can automatically bring it up virtually on the physical onQ Quorum device."

Cons
"In the future, I would like to see support for global deduplication.""IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could improve the IBM Spectrum Protect environment. It can be difficult to administer. The initial configuration can be difficult for entry-level teams or deployment teams, and it might be difficult to integrate. There's just too much content involved in the solution. The documentation is way too large.""The solution only supports HyperV and VMware but doesn't support Nutanix.""Instead of using the command prompt for troubleshooting and administering the backup, there should be an easy-to-use graphical user interface.""The software's technical support could improve its response time for different time zones.""The tool needs to increase the number of threats.""The Gui interface and usability are not so friendly and easy.""The backup support for IBM Power Virtualization needs to be added."

More IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Cons →

"The one thing they could do is some tweaking on the web solution that's supposed to monitor everything from one page, rather than having to bring each server up on its own webpage. It doesn't always accurately show what the system's state is at the time, and we have to restart that process now and then.""Lacks compatibility in terms of supporting other OS.""Better integration with cloud-based solutions like Azure and Office 365 is needed.""The cost could be reduced.""It feels to me like it's going to be a little bit more work than I originally anticipated when upgrading the appliance. I haven't done that yet so I can't speak from true experience, but I went through the project plan and it feels to me like there's quite a number of pieces and components and things that have to be done. Quorum is going to manage the rollout, but in starting the initial conversation there were a lot of unanswered questions""There seems to be a lack of technicians. Sometimes they are very busy and I don't hear back for a day or two. The technicians they have are great. They are fantastic, but it seems difficult, at times, to get in contact with anyone.""One thing that could be done to improve it would be a single pane of glass for doing disaster recovery testing, where I could have remote consoles in one place... I still have to go to each location in a browser and then bring up the console. I'd like to see them integrate that into a single pane of glass so I don't have to go to each server.""Quorum OnQ's user interface is not very attractive and should be made more attractive."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If you need to extend it, it can be extended acting like a normal Spectrum Protect with a long archive."
  • "The price offering from IBM is coming down because it is based on number of VM machines. So, IBM is coming to the market to show the added value of the product."
  • "The licensing model of Spectrum Protect Plus is more efficient and cheaper compared to the original."
  • "In addition to the standard licensing fees, we paid for implementation and training."
  • "Unlike some other solutions, such as Veritas NetBackup where you have to pay for different licenses to use different features, there is a single license that allows you to use all of the features."
  • "Depends on the licensing options that you choose."
  • "The price is lower than that of some competing products."
  • "Clients prefer to buy a perpetual license, but the majority opt for a yearly subscription."

  • "We have never questioned whether it is worth it because it so obviously is a great value."
  • "When we first got the Quorum the licensing was different."
  • "The cost is higher than other software and services, but it is an absolute must-have."
  • "The total for our current solution's licensing is about $14,000 for 12 servers for three years."
  • "The pricing is about $1,400 a month. It's a little bit on the higher side. But it's one of those situations where time is valuable for me. So if it costs a little bit more money for me to have a solution that just works and requires less of my day-to-day management, I'm willing to pay a little bit more."
  • "The initial expenditure for us was a little under $40,000 for the recent renewal. For the first three years after that, other than electricity, there's no cost. After that, their support contract has to be renewed annually. We spent close to $6,000, between the two offices, for support."
  • "When we quote the price of Quorum to customers, they find it expensive."
  • "The upfront cost of purchasing a license for the hardware is quite steep."
