Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"A full-featured data protection solution that is reliable and stable.""The most valuable features are the API features because it allows you to integrate with your Microsoft SQL, your Oracle, and your IBM Db2.""The solution is scalable.""If the system were to go down, we needed to make sure that the system could be recovered and available as soon as possible. Spectrum Protect provides you access to directly bind the backup volume to the server and make the system available instead of restoring it and copying the system.""The most valuable feature of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is the deduplication functionality. The clients moved to this solution originally because of this feature.""The feature I find most valuable is the offload to Spectrum Protect for long-term retention. I think the deduplication and replication are quite nice on Plus.""We used to use the solution with tapes a few years ago. We've switched to discs, and it has gotten much faster.""The tool has enough documentation; you don't need to contact the support team."

"I am impressed with the tool's technical alliance with Veeam and Veritas.""While the challenges posed by the difficulties were significant, they prompted the replacement of problematic components, resulting in the resolution of issues. Importantly, there were no substantial ongoing concerns. Regarding the overall performance, it has been consistently excellent."

Cons
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could improve security.""The software's technical support could improve its response time for different time zones.""You end up needing to do a lot of troubleshooting to get things to work effectively.""There could be better integration with Spectrum Protect and Spectrum Protect Plus, it should be one solution.""In the future, I would like to see support for global deduplication.""The administration needs to be improved and made simpler to use.""The solution should allow for backup of iOS snapshots.""The one issue we are facing is related to file restores."

"The product needs to improve performance while scaling out. It also needs to improve stability.""Perhaps the most notable area for enhancement lies in the web interface for management. The current limitations in LDAP editing capabilities are not addressed in the UI, and I haven't observed any recent updates. It's possible that the new version of the DXI service incorporates improvements in the GUI, but I cannot confirm. While there is room for improvement in the current GUI, it remains a relatively minor issue. Overall, the system is comprehensive, covering aspects such as reports on latency and networking, leaving little room for additional enhancements in those areas."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If you need to extend it, it can be extended acting like a normal Spectrum Protect with a long archive."
  • "The price offering from IBM is coming down because it is based on number of VM machines. So, IBM is coming to the market to show the added value of the product."
  • "The licensing model of Spectrum Protect Plus is more efficient and cheaper compared to the original."
  • "In addition to the standard licensing fees, we paid for implementation and training."
  • "Unlike some other solutions, such as Veritas NetBackup where you have to pay for different licenses to use different features, there is a single license that allows you to use all of the features."
  • "Depends on the licensing options that you choose."
  • "The price is lower than that of some competing products."
  • "Clients prefer to buy a perpetual license, but the majority opt for a yearly subscription."

  • "I do not oversee this aspect, as pricing is contingent on factors such as volume, technical specifications, and the desired features. Consequently, I lack information on the pricing details and structure."
