Centralized secrets have improved CI/CD security and now streamline credential rotation
IBM HashiCorp Security Lifecycle Management can be improved in that initial setup and policy configuration can take some time, especially for teams that are new to Vault and its concepts. I would also appreciate simpler administration and more straightforward troubleshooting because some configuration issues can require digging through logs and documentation. I would also improve the user experience around monitoring and day-to-day administration in IBM HashiCorp Security Lifecycle Management. Some tasks are quite straightforward once you understand the platform, but the learning curve can be higher for new team members. Better guided workflows with clearer error messages would help. One area I would improve in IBM HashiCorp Security Lifecycle Management is the overall reporting and visibility experience. It would be useful to have more out-of-the-box dashboards for access patterns, policy compliance, and secret life status without needing as much customization.

Automated access reviews have improved least privilege and simplified identity governance
The best features Opal offers are automated access reviews, centralized visibility, and just-in-time access. I especially appreciate the ability to enforce time-bound access and automatically revoke privileges, which makes least privilege management much more practical. The automated access reviews have made the process much more efficient by giving us a structured way to review and revoke unnecessary permissions. Instead of manually checking every entitlement, we can focus on exceptions and higher risk access, which makes the review process more manageable and consistent. I would also add that the context Opal provides during access reviews is valuable. You can see the access relationship and risk rather than simply approving or denying it blindly. This makes the decisions more informed and gives the team a much better audit trail.
