From my perspective, there is significant room for improvement in Horizon 8. Many customers are actively seeking alternatives to VMware due to recent licensing changes after Broadcom's acquisition, necessitating upgrades or bundles that they often do not require. Given that Omniser builds on VMware technologies, this creates a negative perception, pushing customers to consider different brands or solutions.

Advanced parallel ray tracing has transformed our design workflows and accelerates custom model training
I find a lot of benefits in using NVIDIA RTX 6000. For instance, there is a memory mechanism they have, similar to RAM. When we take normal EC2 instances, they always follow a waterfall mechanism, but with NVIDIA, it takes multiple requests in parallel. Due to that graphics card or memory in place, it can handle numerous requests at a time without waiting for one to complete before moving to the next. This parallel processing allows us to run multiple requests simultaneously, which is a major advantage I have observed with NVIDIA GPUs. The real-time ray tracing feature is beneficial because it acts as a cache mechanism; it does not wait and executes within a fraction of microseconds, storing a lot of data. We can apply parallel indexing, and everything is available in memory. Performance-wise, it is very good compared to a normal CPU. The high-resolution graphics from NVIDIA RTX 6000 helps our work significantly. With this GPU, we can multitask effectively; for instance, we can ask one model to write content for an email while simultaneously deriving an image based on the instructions, and also writing a social media article. This allows us to expect proper responses in a timely manner, with everything happening in parallel and delivering results in seconds.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that it is easy to set it up, and the user experience it provides is just like a normal desktop."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is secure remote access to resources."
"In the past, students had to physically go to labs to access software, but now they can access them from any device anywhere, and don’t have to login via VPN because of the security server part of Horizon."
"VMware Horizon View is easily scalable. Its onboarding is easy and comes with flash provisioning features."
"Great sorting feature to create UI on demand."
"My customers most likely use Horizon 8 for remote desktop, which means making sure that people can access system resources from anywhere on a secure platform, even from a non-secure, or non-company device."
"We like that VMware is the top competitor in virtualization."
"The most important feature of this solution is the connectivity with every device, such as iPad, iPhone, and other terminals, and the security of the solution is very good."
"The experience with NVIDIA RTX Virtual Workstation has been nice; even though the cost is very high, after it is in the organization, it gives a lot of good modeling outputs, so it has completely improved the experience overall."
"Performance-wise, it is very good compared to a normal CPU."
"NVIDIA RTX Virtual Workstation has positively impacted my organization by providing two main benefits: time-saving and improved quality, allowing me to complete tasks that would take days in just hours while using different open models that update regularly."

Cons

"I would like to see simple load-balancing for smaller environments that lack large solutions like F5, or NSX; it should be redundant or unavailable but in a simple way. Perhaps limited to only two components; if more are required, a paid load balancing solution can be used. Load balancing for simple environments, or simple redundancy, is sorely lacking."
"VMware Horizon 7 could improve by supporting the active-active data center. At this time we are only deploying it in the production environment. Our customer is considered to deploy the VMware Horizon 7 to a secondary data center, but we found out that it cannot fully support the user in the deployment in the active-active data center. Any improvement on this would be beneficial."
"The multimedia playback is not very good and they could improve it by increasing the quality."
"Lacking in documentation for app settings."
"The solution should provide easy configuration."
"The pools and virtual machine management console should be improved, as there is no way to group PCs in different pools, etc."
"Horizon 7's performance could be improved."
"The initial setup was complex, and you need system experience to walk through it."
"Regarding NVIDIA RTX Virtual Workstation, I would say the licensing cost is high and deployment may require experienced IT administrators."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is an expensive product. We purchase its yearly license."
"For long-term use, perpetual licenses are more cost-effective, and for short-term use, subscription-based would be more cost-effective."
"The pricing depends on the use cases. It depends on the company's needs and budget. For us, it was okay, not too expensive."
"The license for this product is paid on a monthly basis."
"Licensing and hardware outsourcing is expensive, but can be cost-effective in the three to five-year range."
"The price of VMware Horizon 7 is more than some other solutions."
"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten. Pricing can be an obstacle for smaller businesses. Pricing is fixed, and there are no additional costs."
"At present, they provide decent pricing in terms of bundled licenses."
