We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Its scalability and performance are the most valuable. It is quite scalable and has a huge capacity.""The high performance of flash storage is especially valuable to us.""One of the features, for us, that is important is the monitoring platform integrated into the solution. It has all the elements that we need to see, at all times, to be sure the platform is working right.""The solution is very user-friendly in terms of maintenance and configuration. It's also possible to connect the solution to other storage management solutions.""It is very flexible, and it is very useful when you want to virtualize different storage from different vendors.""The deduplication is useful for us because we don't have that much money for our lab infrastructure. Deduplication means we have more storage available. And the IOPS are really fast.""Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform 5000 Series exhibits good performance and has good IOPS: 300 IOPS. The technical support for this product is also good.""It's best features are its reliability and stability."

"I like that it's stable, and I am satisfied with it. We have had some issues, but that is normal in IT. IBM System Storage DS5000 works fine most of the time.""IBM System Storage DS5000 series enhances clients' data handling capabilities through improved security, fast systems, and added value features.""We use it for applications, databases, media, files, etc.""The stability is excellent.""It is a very stable solution.""I also like all the software features you get from the IBM System Storage DS5000 Series such as the SVC (SAN volume controller). You can put the code on the controllers, and it really gives you the advantage because you'll have HyperSwap.""The stability and performance of the drive are the most valuable.""The most valuable aspects of the DS5000 Series are its high availability (almost six nines), stability, cost-effectiveness, and the unique IBM FlashCore modules, which other competitors lack. These FlashCore modules enable local operations on the drive itself without a performance overhead, a significant advantage."

Cons
"The complex setup, ease of use, and snapshot operations of this product need to be improved.""The Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform faces challenges when it comes to features like deduplication and compression. Enabling these features can lead to processor overload, resulting in performance degradation, especially under high loads.""The distributor needs more knowledgeable resources for technical support. It would be better to connect directly to the vendor in case of queries.""They should look at the cost because there are other vendors who offer the same cost with more features.""The snapshot and clone operation functions can be made easier.""The initial setup was difficult, as we don't have access to assistance. We had some issues around configuration. We needed to know things like what kind of rate is the best, or what kind of replication is ideal. We had to seek out answers online to get the information we needed.""In terms of new features, I would be interested to see deduplication added in their next release.""The solution is priced higher than its competitors."

More Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform Cons →

"IBM is not always as agile as other competitors when it is about cloud integration and user interfaces. They're not renewing themselves very often. They have been slow to evolve from the old GUI. The user interface should be improved, especially regarding performance analysis, which has always been a little bit weak as compared to other solutions. As a global solution, it lacks the feature for containing integration object storage. Even though they have now started to offer this feature, it is quite young and not as developed as some other vendors. There are also no mass possibilities at all. They have a lot of competition in the mid-range segment. They need to have a NAS gateway or something like that. It doesn't specifically need to be integrated into the controllers that are keys to the gateway.""IBM talks about integration when we talk about Safeguarded Copy. It integrates with QRadar, but it seems as though IBM still is too separate, that is, the way IBM is measured on software and hardware.""Improving software installation and licensing retrieval would make using IBM System Storage DS5000 series easier for customers.""The amount of storage could be increased.""The price of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required.""Regarding improvements, there's a common perception, primarily during pre-sales, that IBM storage solutions are expensive, though studies often prove otherwise. As for additional functionality, supporting two to three sites for applications might be a potential enhancement.""The product is very costly. Very few can afford it.""It would be nice if duplication was possible at the hardware level. As it is now, duplication is a software feature, whereas compression is a hardware feature."
