Daily batch analytics have powered a reliable bronze data lake for growing customer records
The standout features of HCLTech Informix are its ease of integration, high data-loading performance—especially for large tables in a short timeframe—and effortless connectivity. The ability to utilize real-time data written by an application, combined with our daily batch loads that flawlessly handle critical data, are the key reasons we continue to rely on it today. HCLTech Informix has contributed significantly to my organization. When I joined, it had already been implemented for many years, and even today, it has not been fully phased out. I believe it remains highly relevant to the business. This relevance is reflected in our daily operations, particularly in terms of reliability. This is a crucial factor, as I work at a large enterprise with a high level of responsibility regarding customer data.

When it comes to how Oracle Database can be improved, for me it is all about training and development in terms of gamification, creating awareness, and spreading the word to aspiring database administrators and database developers. As I have used it in the past and in recent times, many people are trying to get into IT, so the opportunity exists. Oracle has the market opportunity to take this time to spread its offerings and ensure that many aspiring professionals are aware of its services and products. From my perspective, there is not much to add regarding the needed improvements for the interface and the documentation. I give it a nine because I think Oracle sometimes can make things complicated. You have many services, many products, and many tools for different use cases. So it is difficult for someone who is only used to a particular product, such as Oracle Database, to understand all the other products and services that it provides. Probably streamlining it and making it available with categorized use cases for specific job roles would help. If you are a database developer, these are the tools that you need to be familiar with in Oracle's suite of products, and if you are a database administrator, these are the tools. Categorizing them based on the job role or function of people who are accessing these products and providing training capabilities on how to use them and how these products interchange and talk to each other would be very important because that is one of the things I struggled with when I started my journey as an Oracle Database administrator. Having that visibility of all the software products and providing free training and documentation on how you can improve and which products are best suited for integration to your product from Oracle would go a long way to help organizations and professionals. Regarding Oracle Database's AI capabilities, I am very keen on its governance and security. I think more work needs to be done on the security and ensuring that the database for a large number of people is watertight. AI is here to stay; however, governance and more stress testing of the AI capabilities needs to be done to ensure there is no breach of data. I would rate it currently at 6 over 10 and there is room for improvement. As long as there are government policies and Oracle policies that can mitigate any breaches of data and serious security issues, releasing people's records over the internet, there is always room for improvement in that regard.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The best features that HCLTech Informix offers are the ease of integration, the high performance of data loading, especially for large tables in a relatively short time, and the ease of connection."
"The best features HCLTech Informix offers include the ability to combine data and connect systems."
"The original Oracle Database is good for us, especially because even if the ERP is running on Java, we still get good performances."
"Oracle RDBMS has a lot of features and is extremely stable, but all this come with a price, and in this case a big one."
"There are two valuable features for us; the security of the solution and the availability that this database offers us."
"The solution is the best in the world."
"A really large and very useful language to process data."
"The product has been very user-friendly and very easy to use."
"After starting with the database and realizing that the information there is always correct, teams start to be more productive, since they don’t have to spend that time crosschecking."
"Oracle offers good security and supports customization."

Cons

"HCLTech Informix has not impacted my organization positively."
"The performance could be improved and I think they should work towards providing features that will improve database performance."
"While Oracle has been excellent, they haven't been growing or leaping forward like other vendors."
"The monitoring of processes that are executing could be better. I find it very difficult to find processes that had been in a suspended state in order to stop them."
"Another improvement could be the ability to predict the actual time required to execute a particular query or procedure."
"The setup for Enterprise Manager Grid Control can be a bit easier."
"It would be nice if creating indexes and other small, repetitive tasks could be automated."
"I would like to see improvements with caching."
"It could be cheaper and easier to manage. Support could also be better. Performance could be better. Sometimes testing impacts the prediction performance. We have a complex server that serves both prediction and testing. Sometimes testing applies to many other deployments that impact the service provided. It's a problem for our company."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"It is quite expensive."
"We are on an annual license for the use of this solution."
"The license is inexpensive."
"Our customers buy licenses from Oracle directly."
"The tool's pricing is high and yearly."
"You buy it when you need it, and then you pay the maintenance. We bought the licenses over 10 years ago. We haven't changed our licenses. We are not buying new licenses, and we are not looking at other devices. So, it is difficult to say whether it is cheap or expensive. There is nothing to compare to."
"I understand that Oracle is very expensive compared to other databases."
"The licensing cost is not based on a yearly subscription but rather on the number of devices used annually."
