User interface has improved navigation but demands clearer organization for consistent workflows
There is one product for operating system called Google Chrome OS Flex. Google Chrome Enterprise generally updates in the background with a button that appears for relaunching to update. The updates are frequent, occurring every two or three days. While tab history is saved, it can be inconvenient to close and reopen all tabs. When an update occurs, a button appears on Google Chrome Enterprise indicating the need to relaunch. This requires closing all Chrome windows before updating. Google Chrome Enterprise is simple to install. For Google Cloud services, installation is not necessary as services are created directly on the cloud. It is currently running on public cloud. I don't have anything deployed on other clouds, only GCP. I have rated this solution 6 out of 10.

Secure pipelines have reduced incidents and save significant setup and configuration time
One of the best features Jenkins on Hardened Ubuntu offers is that it saves time because rather than trying to have a vanilla OS, such as Ubuntu on an EC2 instance, and then trying to secure it yourself, Jenkins on Hardened Ubuntu is already secured with a ton of insecure features disabled on the VM, which saves us time and is quite cost-effective. The IAM integration has helped my team because it is quicker to set up and more secure since using AWS IAM roles is natively secure, where long-term credentials can be insecure, but by using already configured IAM roles, it is much more secure. Jenkins on Hardened Ubuntu has positively impacted my organization because it is more secure to use rather than us trying to use a vanilla OS, lowering the attack surface of common OS-related vulnerabilities.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The best aspects of Google Chrome Enterprise are its compatibility with everything, smooth management, and frequent security patching, which I find nice to use."
"We use the product to run applications and devices."
"The standout advantage of Google Chrome Enterprise is its ease of use; it is easy to share information within the Share Drive."
"The breadth and capability of the various extensions and plug-ins that are out there for Chrome to do additional things on top of just working in the browser are fantastic."
"The best part of Chrome is security."
"The initial setup is straightforward."
"Chrome functions as a comprehensive solution due to its continuous self-evaluation and improvement. The evolution process has been significant, with a notable distance covered from its inception to the present. Notably, features like VPN support have been incorporated over time, enhancing the platform's capabilities. A distinctive feature is that users don't even need to know the Wi-Fi password; upon signing into the machine, internet connectivity is established immediately. Furthermore, the cloud storage system ensures data isn't stored locally, making it seamless for users to switch between machines. In summary, Google Chrome Enterprise is an excellent solution, particularly when there's a shortage of available manpower."
"The solution has been stable."
"I have definitely noticed a reduction in incidents and time saved since switching to Jenkins on Hardened Ubuntu, which saves at least between ten to twenty hours in configuration time, translating to potential savings of hundreds or even thousands of dollars."
"The benefits of Jenkins on Hardened Ubuntu include its easy integration with every tool; it can be used as both an integration tool and a deployment tool, and with the help of scripts, we can easily configure Jenkins on Hardened Ubuntu in an effective way."

Cons

"Additional data security and data privacy features could be proactively recommended by Google."
"Google Chrome Enterprise doesn't use AI in its solution."
"The solution's interface is an area with certain shortcomings that need improvement."
"There are many plugins available, which are often promoted through ads. However, there's a lack of clear information on whether they are free or if they will eventually require credit card information."
"While tab history is saved, it can be inconvenient to close and reopen all tabs."
"You still need to have a pretty good understanding of GCP to deploy it properly."
"In an upcoming release, the enhanced troubleshooting feature needs to improve to be able to identify the issues for the use case and for the user experience."
"I wish there was a way that they could update things a little less often if anything. I think a lot of enterprise customers are frustrated... Certain plug-ins like ad blockers will lose some functionality in the next quarter to half a year."
"There is a maintenance overhead to using Jenkins on Hardened Ubuntu since the customer is responsible for patching both Jenkins on Hardened Ubuntu and the OS, and although security issues are somewhat handled, Jenkins on Hardened Ubuntu third-party plugins may still be insecure, and hardened images can be too restrictive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Yearly payments are to be made towards the licensing costs of Google Chrome Enterprise. It is not an expensive solution. I rate the solution's pricing model a six out of ten. There is a need to pay an extra cost in addition to the solution's standard licensing fees."
"Pricing varies significantly based on different regions and specific requirements. The cost can differ for the Euro price as opposed to the Asia-specific price. Generally, the standard pricing falls within the range of twenty-five to thirty dollars per license. This payment can be structured on a monthly or yearly basis. Opting for the yearly payment plan often comes with an added discount, either directly from Google or through negotiations with your vendor."
"The product price is very good in my opinion."
"Google Chrome Enterprise is a medium-priced solution."
"We are on a monthly subscription for this solution."
"So all I can say is just for us since we just recently re-upped our three-year contract for Google Education Enterprise, whatever the name is for their highest level enterprise...I found the pricing to be pretty reasonable overall."
