Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Fivetran can perform data migration incredibly fast, depending on the source and target.""Fivetran is remarkably easy to use; I haven't encountered any other data integration tool that is as user-friendly.""The most valuable feature of Fivetran is that it only synchronizes what needs to be synchronized.""The simplicity of the solution is its valuable feature.""The compare feature is the most valuable piece of it.""There's the general feature of the platform where it just makes it very easy to integrate different things, but I would say a specific difference is their integration of DBT,.""Making the decision to implement Fivetran was supported by the fact that they have better connectors than other competitors.""The general data ingestion is valuable. It's used for a lot of data. It provides about 90% of the data we use in our data warehouse without needing data engineering."

"It is user friendly, it's not complex.""It is a seamless and sophisticated tool.""XML to JSON transformations, out-of-the-box, helps to build REST services.""Customer support is very efficient.""The OSGI console is available to debug different issues and get low level informations on the applications development, like bundle, dependencies, etc.""Areas for improvement would be the cloud fitness of the product and the ease of migrating to newer versions.""It is very stable. It is a market leader, and it has connectors to many of the legacy systems. It also has enterprise cloud connectors.""One of the most valuable features is data transformation. We have some legacy systems which are in old technology, like SOAP, whereas the new ones are in REST. So we use BusinessWorks to transform data from one format to another, from SOAP to REST."

Cons
"The documentation can be laid out better to make it easier to find things, and I really wish there was built-in support for changing passwords. Some features don't work as advertised for the platform/repository database, and HVR is not always the fastest at getting results.""HVR Software's technical support could be improved. Whenever we log a case, the response that we get from the support is a bit delayed.""I would like for them to incorporate additional transformations. A valuable aspect of the product is that it does inflight transformations and that could be expanded.""Some of the pain points we're looking at are trying to integrate some of the items in the Microsoft stack, so SharePoint and Excel, and then some of the newer Azure services.""The documentation is decent, but it's hard to find information online about Fivetran. For example, if you try to search for an error code, you won't find much information about it in forums.""The connections with SAP must be improved.""We experience cost issues because Fivetran is charged on a usage basis. When you reach a certain level, the tool should focus on reducing the costs. The solution is expensive when you are moving gigabytes and petabytes of data. It should also focus more on REST APIs and webhooks.""We use a separate tool for "reverse ETL", which is the opposite of what Fivetran does; it pushes data from your data warehouse back out to business applications. If Fivetran pulls data from those same applications, they should also enable users to push it back. I would love to do both ETL and reverse ETL in the same tool."

More Fivetran Cons →

"Could be more user friendly in the development area.""Scaling with the solution is costly because if we need to scale up, we have to buy more memory. That means more money. Solutions like Camel or Pulsar come with built-in options to scale horizontally, vertically, region-wide or country-wide.""The Business Studio tool can be improved, which is the tool for designing the processes. Improving the Business Studio tool will make this solution more stable. It has a steep learning curve, and it is pretty tough to learn.""The container-based image is too large and this makes auto-scaling difficult.""I would like the solution to be integrated into the cloud.""Though it is a stable product, if we have an issue with the product, it gets difficult, and it gets really difficult to explain the issue to the support team. Also, it takes a long time to get resolved.""The initial setup is not easy.""This solution's cloud could be improved. I don't know whether it was because we didn't have the internal expertise or if it was the product itself, but since they came later—I think only two or three years into the cloud—after many other iPaaS that had been in the cloud for longer, I feel that maybe they haven't matured in terms of the cloud."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I don't have the exact information, but I know it is high, and it is on a yearly basis. There is no additional cost for what we're doing. We're always open to doing things cheaper, so we might potentially implement a different solution."
  • "I've heard that the license for HVR is a bit costly compared to its competitors, but since it's reliable and efficient, I think the customer shouldn't be bothered about the cost."
  • "Fivetran is very expensive, and its database-driven pricing model is outdated."
  • "I can't give exact amounts because that's based on usage, but it's more expensive than some of its competitors."
  • "In the first year, we were given a very good discount. It was approximately 20,000 Euros per year. In the third year, we purchased credit for two years and the price was 33,000 Euros per year."
  • "I would say they're a little bit on the expensive side, and their contract process is not particularly good, but there is a lot of potential flexibility."
  • "The pricing model is okay and mid to large companies will not have an issue with it."
  • "The licensing costs are extremely high for the usage of somebody who has one GB or two GB of usage per day for real-time traffic. There are many other players in the market which are similarly priced or competitively priced. On average per month, it used to come around 12,000-15,000 USD, which is very high."

  • "My understanding is that the licensing is very costly."
  • "It is a bit expensive for medium-sized companies. If you are migrating from the current version to the container-supported version, it is quite expensive. The existing licensing will not work because the product platform itself is different."
  • "Its price policy has changed quite a lot in the last two years. It was extremely expensive previously. Nowadays, you can buy a license for BusinessWorks for €2000. Looking at what you get in return in terms of support, TIBCO community, and stability, it is fairly reasonable. It is not too expensive."
  • "I think BusinessWorks is more expensive compared to other products. We have the ELA, so at least we have some sort of bargain or discount with that. But for a start-up, it's very expensive compared to other ESBs."
  • "Licensing scheme is too rigid"
  • "I don't have the prices of the products, but I know that TIBCO is not a cheap solution. I think that this solution is more suitable for large companies because I don't think that small- or medium-sized companies would have the money for this solution. WSO2 has the community version for free, so many of the smaller companies can use it. I'm not sure what the prices are for support, though, so I suppose the support for WSO2 is not cheap either."
  • "The solution is too expensive. It's one of the most expensive solutions out there, particularly because there are so many open-source competitors on the market. I don't know the exact numbers, however."
  • "I give the cost of the solution a four out of ten."
