Pipeline monitoring has improved and visual lineage now provides trusted, anomaly-aware data
There are many ways Dagster Labs can be improved. I believe the UI is very slow and it prevents loading state. Regarding needed improvements, I think there should be very good support available for migration if someone is migrating from a legacy system to Dagster Labs. Maybe that support needs to be better in a way that there should be customer service available for it, with more documentation or GitHub documentation that details what you should do and should not do, including do's and don'ts and how it will be beneficial or not beneficial. Something approach may be helpful during migration.

One issue I observed with StreamSets is that the memory runs out quickly when processing large volumes of data. Because of this memory issue, we have to upgrade our EC2 boxes in the Amazon AWS infrastructure. I had to switch to a new EC2 box, even though the processor was not fully utilized. It would be beneficial if StreamSets addressed any potential memory leak issues to prevent unnecessary upgrades. Additionally, it would be a great enhancement if StreamSets could produce a lineage graph to visualize how the data has passed through the system.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Dagster Labs has provided a good sense of the data pipeline I have been using, and I have started to trust it even more because I have full confidence in whether it has been updated correctly and if it has failed."
"Dagster Labs has positively impacted my organization because whenever there is a change in the data, it becomes easy for me to schedule the job, run the changes, and make changes to be imported to the slowly changing dimension tables."
"Dagster Labs has positively impacted our organization by making it much easier to create data pipelines, helping us create new use cases, and allowing us to transform all of the data we have into features, which Dagster Labs has greatly assisted with."
"As a product, it is one of the best I have had the pleasure to work with."
"Dagster Labs has impacted my organization positively by enabling faster project delivery since it has reduced a lot of manual efforts, especially the manual scheduling part."
"Also, the intuitive canvas for designing all the streams in the pipeline, along with the simplicity of the entire product are very big pluses for me. The software is very simple and straightforward. That is something that is needed right now."
"What I love the most is that StreamSets is very light. It's a containerized application. It's easy to use with Docker. If you are a large organization, it's very easy to use Kubernetes."
"StreamSets’ data drift resilience has reduced the time it takes us to fix data drift breakages. For example, in our previous Hadoop scenario, when we were creating the Sqoop-based processes to move data from source to destinations, we were getting the job done. That took approximately an hour to an hour and a half when we did it with Hadoop. However, with the StreamSets, since it works on a data collector-based mechanism, it completes the same process in 15 minutes of time. Therefore, it has saved us around 45 minutes per data pipeline or table that we migrate. Thus, it reduced the data transfer, including the drift part, by 45 minutes."
"The entire user interface is very simple and the simplicity of creating pipelines is something that I like very much about it. The design experience is very smooth."
"The ability to have a good bifurcation rate and fewer mistakes is valuable."
"The best thing about StreamSets is its plugins, which are very useful and work well with almost every data source. It's also easy to use, especially if you're comfortable with SQL. You can customize it to do what you need. Many other tools have started to use features similar to those introduced by StreamSets, like automated workflows that are easy to set up."
"It is really easy to set up and the interface is easy to use."
"The best feature that I really like is the integration."

Cons

"Additionally, the billing for Dagster Labs Cloud Plus is somewhat restrictive regarding the number of seats, which often pushes users towards the enterprise plan."
"Dagster Labs is currently providing a Dagster University course, but those offerings are somewhat high-level."
"There are many ways Dagster Labs can be improved. I believe the UI is very slow and it prevents loading state."
"I deducted two points because I faced some challenges working with the Git repository integration with Dagster Labs due to some security keys or some weird issue."
"We create pipelines or jobs in StreamSets Control Hub. It is a great feature, but if there is a way to have a folder structure or organize the pipelines and jobs in Control Hub, it would be great. I submitted a ticket for this some time back."
"The logging mechanism could be improved. If I am working on a pipeline, then create a job out of it and it is running, it will generate constant logs. So, the logging mechanism could be simplified. Now, it is a bit difficult to understand and filter the logs. It takes some time."
"StreamSet works great for batch processing but we are looking for something that is more real-time. We need latency in numbers below milliseconds."
"The software is very good overall. Areas for improvement are the error logging and the version history. I would like to see better, more detailed error logging information."
"They need to improve their customer care services. Sometimes it has taken more than 48 hours to resolve an issue. That should be reduced. They are aware of small or generic issues, but not the more technical or deep issues. For those, they require some time, generally 48 to 72 hours to respond. That should be improved."
"One area for improvement could be the cloud storage server speed, as we have faced some latency issues here and there."
"One thing that I would like to add is the ability to manually enter data. The way the solution currently works is we don't have the option to manually change the data at any point in time. Being able to do that will allow us to do everything that we want to do with our data. Sometimes, we need to manually manipulate the data to make it more accurate in case our prior bifurcation filters are not good. If we have the option to manually enter the data or make the exact iterations on the data set, that would be a good thing."
"There are a few things that can be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"There are two editions, Professional and Enterprise, and there is a free trial. We're using the Professional edition and it is competitively priced."
"The pricing is affordable for any business."
"It's not so favorable for small companies."
"Its pricing is pretty much up to the mark. For smaller enterprises, it could be a big price to pay at the initial stage of operations, but the moment you have the Seed B or Seed C funding and you want to scale up your operations and aren't much worried about the funds, at that point in time, you would need a solution that could be scaled."
"StreamSets is an expensive solution."
"We are running the community version right now, which can be used free of charge."
"I believe the pricing is not equitable."
"The licensing is expensive, and there are other costs involved too. I know from using the software that you have to buy new features whenever there are new updates, which I don't really like. But initially, it was very good."
