Automation has transformed endpoint deployment and streamlines multi-vendor network operations
The best features that Cisco Crosswork Network Insights offers include a single pane of glass, multi-vendor comparison, and the ability to reduce engineer workload. The single pane of glass and multi-vendor comparison features help my team day-to-day because with the single pane of glass, we are able to manage everything at a single place, hence saving a lot of time, and the administration becomes very easy. Additionally, there is real-time network monitoring and analytics, multi-vendor and multi-domain support, scalable AI-driven insights to make data-driven decisions easy, and a modular application ecosystem with open APIs. Cisco Crosswork Network Insights has empowered our team to deploy network devices at customer locations more efficiently than ever before, and it also delivers critical network telemetry, streamlining troubleshooting and reducing reliance on manual processes. Cisco Crosswork Network Insights has positively impacted my organization by enhancing automation for endpoint deployment, hence saving a lot of time, and network usage statistics delivery to the end user's environment has been quicker.

Helpful support agents, beneficial issue detection, and high availability
The creation of charts and real-time windows was somewhat cumbersome. The vendor's website had an application called App Agent that required improvement. This API was designed to track message rates between microservers ingested into a microservice memory map. It allowed users to monitor the number of transactions that occurred at specific points within the application, and it was quite impressive. However, it had some limitations, and it mainly served as a tool for basic tracking. The protocols it employed could reveal the type of server-to-server communication and the specific order types, but it was not able to provide a more in-depth analysis of the application. The vendor has the potential to integrate application metrics more extensively into their product suite. The product suite could benefit from more out-of-the-box predictive analytics capabilities, such as projecting market or symbol movements. However, it is unclear whether the vendor currently provides this functionality. Users may need to adjust their software to perform such analysis independently.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The major benefits of using Cisco Crosswork Network Insights are that it is a better product to plan and deploy the network, as it is quite a comprehensive product that gives real-time visualization and lifecycle management, reduces the operating expenses eventually, decreases the deployment time, and definitely creates interest for the staff and boosts their productivity."
"What I personally appreciate about Cisco Crosswork Network Insights are the monitoring and real-time features, which are quite helpful for us, as they provide us the previous logs and the current situation, specifically for troubleshooting issues and conducting RCAs."
"Cisco Crosswork Network Insights has impacted my organization positively as it has saved a lot of time, reduced management overhead, and simplified operations through a single pane of glass."
"The advanced visualization tools were really nicely done."
"Cisco Crosswork Network Insights has been very fundamental and robust and helpful in my organization, empowering our team to deploy network devices at customer locations more efficiently than ever, and it also delivers critical network telemetry, streamlining troubleshooting and reducing reliance on manual processes."
"Cisco Crosswork Network Insights has positively impacted my organization by reducing downtime when any problems are detected early before impacting users, allowing us to take action."
"Cisco Crosswork Network Insights has positively impacted my organization primarily through security and trust, as it provides monitoring of routing health, IP health, and protection from hijacks or leaks."
"The best features or advantages of Cisco Crosswork Network Insights are that Cisco is very popular in Vietnam, and they perform very well in education, so many people and engineers know very clearly about Cisco, especially if you compare it to another vendor."
"The analytics features of Corvil are really good... As long as you know what the field is in the message, you can build your metrics based on that field... It means you can do the analytics that you actually care for. You can customize it..."
"Corvil definitely delivers a performance advantage for our firm over our competition because we are able to address all issues on a near real-time basis."
"With the Corvil Stored Data Analyzer module, we can use it for test data or a set of production data to set up the configuration for latency setup, so we can use the fields to correlate messages."
"The performance metrics are pretty good. We've got everything from the network layer to the actual application layer. We can see what's going on with things like sending time and batching."
"As part of my role in monitoring multiple client connections, I would use Pico Corvil Analytics to set up alerts for performance issues, such as TCP resends and dropped packets. These alerts would trigger when the volume was low and performance was poor, allowing me to work with our trading partners to find a resolution. I would present them with the statistics I had and together, we would identify the source of the issue. This collaboration resulted in the client often reconfiguring their systems. For example, we may find that a network connection needed to be made. Overall, this proactive approach helped to maintain strong connections with our clients and minimize disruptions to trading revenue."
"In terms of what it does, I'd give Corvil a ten out of ten; I've never seen a tool like it."
"We can use CLI with the UI for configuring the new monitoring system, which is good."
"Broadly speaking, this solution has reduced incident diagnosis times because it is a tool that we don't have elsewhere."

Cons

"Cisco Crosswork Network Insights is not an easy-to-use product and thus requires some training to ensure that it can be used to the best of its capabilities."
"My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is that it is somewhat high compared to other network products similar to Cisco."
"There are a couple of things I would improve about Cisco Crosswork Network Insights, such as capital efficiency and better utilization of operating expenses, allowing for multi-vendor integration."
"The reason I did not give a nine or ten for Cisco Crosswork Network Insights is integration and price, as that is what prevents me from giving the maximum points."
"In future updates of Cisco Crosswork Network Insights, I would like to see more integrated AI with such tools."
"Cisco Crosswork Network Insights can improve in its setup complexity, as it has a very complex setup that requires skilled network engineers for deployment and tuning."
"From my perspective, there is some room for improvement in the product, as you have to check your competitors, such as what Juniper is doing and what HP is offering, and those things have to come in to stay and survive in the market."
"For monitoring capabilities of Cisco Crosswork Network Insights, the monitoring is for Cisco only, from my knowledge."
"Alerting isn't great... you can only put in one email address in. And that's for all kinds of alerting on the box."
"For FIX protocol, maybe we could have built-in configurations for signatures and decoders. Also, for certain protocols, which are newer, we would like to just add the signatures within the decoders itself."
"Sometimes, when you are saving any configuration and making changes, there are times something is missing. An error comes up, or sometimes there is no error, and the errors are not very straightforward as to the issue."
"There is definitely room for improvement in the reporting... The whole interface where you build reports and schedule them is very clunky and I find that, whereas on the GUI you can pull out all the metrics you want and it's very flexible and nice and easy to customize, the reporting is not very intuitive."
"The analytics feature is very nice, but it's mostly software. We are hoping that it could be embedded in ASICs, so it could be faster."
"The creation of charts and real-time windows was somewhat cumbersome. The vendor's website had an application called App Agent that required improvement. This API was designed to track message rates between microservers ingested into a microservice memory map. It allowed users to monitor the number of transactions that occurred at specific points within the application, and it was quite impressive. The vendor has the potential to integrate application metrics more extensively into their product suite."
"Corvil is pretty stable. We just have too much data going into the boxes. Because of that, it requires more maintenance than average."
"It is perceived as an expensive option, even in the financial services sector."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"We bought a box from Corvil and it was $200,000 for one big CNE. Then there are obviously the recurring maintenance fees. The licensing is perpetual but the maintenance fees are not."
"Corvil has reduced the time it takes us to isolate root causes."
"As I am working more with Corvil, it looks like it is improving diagnostic times."
"It is pricey versus its competitors."
"I like the way they've decoupled the hardware now... Everything's based on the licensing side now. The way they do the packs is fair. It's very flexible in that we're not charged per decoder, we're charged for a certain pack. Whether we use one decoder or 20 decoders, as long as they're in the same pack, there's no extra charge. Expensive but fair is how I'd summarize it."
"Pico Corvil Analytics is expensive. There are several competitors in the market. Selling this solution to a trading firm might be challenging as there are several other solutions available that can perform basic similar operations, such as using Wireshark and Python scripts to obtain the required values. However, that does not nearly approach the comprehensive end-2-end automated depth of metrics and their correlations that Pico Corvil Analytics provides."
"The pricing is very expensive. Corvil could work on the pricing."
