Enables streamlined data center management with automation and application-centric design
The main features of Cisco ACI that I really appreciate are the application-centric and network-centric designs, allowing you to create your network according to your application. That's helpful, and it's good for one-time implementation. The automation capabilities are really helpful. We deployed one data center using Terraform, and after deployment, many automation features are available, which can be very helpful. Based on my experience, Cisco ACI provides substantial capability; you can design your network accordingly and it's part of the SDN family, providing many benefits to the organization, especially when moving from traditional network infrastructure. Many organizations are actually using the old traditional Nexus infrastructure or some old data center devices. It gives you significant control and one-time implementation capabilities, and it also provides better performance and security. Functionality-wise, Cisco ACI provides integration using automation. We implemented it through Terraform, which was easy. Those features are available, so I don't think any new features are needed right now; something new could come up, but they have implemented many improvements over the years.

Comprehensive vulnerability management improves security assessments
The platform scans the entire environment and IP range, providing comprehensive vulnerability reports along with solutions to address these vulnerabilities. Its features are extensive and it produces proper results, although there may be occasional false positives. It also categorizes risks based on severity, though further evaluation is necessary for our specific environment.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We can support policy based on our intent, then that gets rendered into the policy that we will be using for Fabric."
"The best part of Cisco ACI is the server deployment and integration."
"Cisco ACI's multi-tenancy has been most beneficial for our network management."
"Now, our customers have tiers of management that have meetings with about the simplest tasks because it has to be approved from upper management and senior management and by the time it gets to the engineer that's going to deploy it, it takes way too long. With the solution, they can delegate a person who would be in charge of running the ACI as a whole, and it will be much faster because it doesn't have to go through the whole chain of command for the simple task of deploying one little machine on one port in the data center."
"We will improve our organization using the automation."
"The security component is its most valuable feature."
"It has the fastest automation. You can move and deploy services in just a couple of minutes."
"It has benefited my organization by saving us a lot of time."
"Qualys Enterprise TruRisk Platform is considered a good leader in its field."
"The favorite feature of Qualys Enterprise TruRisk Platform is that it provides the whole information of a particular vulnerability, including a comprehensive summary, related CVEs and CVSS score, which helps understand potential risks and allows the output to be exported in various formats like CSV, PDF, or JSON."
"Qualys offers versatility. It can function both with and without agents, offering flexibility in deployment. Furthermore, it provides comprehensive support for various systems such as Windows Server, Unix servers, and databases, including SQL, Oracle, and others for development."

Cons

"We would like to have faster services and problem monitoring for our customers."
"It is still not mature and has room to grow. As with any product out there, it requires time to develop."
"If I lose the connection from one side to the core, I can't use the other side to go to the core. I hope in the future, this will be fixed."
"Its scalability and reliability capabilities should be enhanced."
"It could benefit from an orchestration tool that makes deploying services easier."
"For technical support, I would rate them a seven because it's a complex technology and the TAC people sometimes don't have much understanding of the product."
"Better troubleshooting features would be helpful. In ACI, it can be a big mess, a real headache to troubleshoot a single issue... The troubleshooting part, and the information that ACI gives you, sometimes don't give you a proper, inside picture of what's going on within the fabric."
"Where there is room for improvement from ACI is for Layer 2 and Layer 7 packages. Normally, when you're updating your ACI fabric or you're introducing new Layer 4 to Layer 7 devices, there are some constraints, there are some limitations... When you are doing device packages you will not have the functionality of ASM. It's like WAF, web application firewalls. So you need to configure it manually."
"The report sometimes inaccurately identifies the corresponding operating system version."
"Once we supplied 130 URLs to it for scanning one by one, and it crashed in between. We did not have any clue what happened, so we had to reach out to support."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price could be improved. It is expensive, but then again, it is Cisco. The price is worth what you pay for."
"There are no additional costs. We only have to pay for a support contract apart from the license."
"I don't believe there is any licensing required."
"A big company can automate it themselves or spend a lot of money and buy it."
"If you compare the licensing and total cost of ACI, it's cheaper than NSX because of the licensing fees. If you are going for full NSX features it will be too expensive, especially the next-generation firewalling feature."
"We don't use all of the features but it's still worth the money."
"This is an expensive solution."
"The licensing cost for ACI is expensive - I would rate its price 2.5 out of five."
