Simplified threat detection and reduced policy deployment time
The standout features of Check Point Security Management are unified policy management, real-time visibility, and automation capabilities, making it a powerful tool for security management. Consistency across environments with Check Point Security Management helps me ensure that instead of maintaining separate rules for firewalls, cloud workloads, and data centers, we apply one unified policy that covers them all. This reduces misconfigurations and ensures compliance, proving to be a time-saver because rolling out a new rule or updating an existing one takes minutes, not hours, because it is propagated everywhere automatically. Automation is one of the most valuable aspects of Check Point Security Management, and it often does not get enough attention compared to headline features like unified policies or visibility. With policy automation, routine tasks such as rule creation, compliance checks, or policy updates can be automated, reducing human error and saving hours of manual work. Check Point Security Management has simplified administration in my organization because instead of juggling multiple consoles, everything is managed from a single pane of glass. This has reduced complexity and saved significant time for our IT team, improving our operational efficiency. For a policy update, I used to spend two or three hours across multiple consoles. Now, with unified management in Check Point Security Management, it takes thirty to forty minutes, resulting in about a seventy percent reduction in effort, greatly boosting productivity.

The open architecture is easy to extend and enhance
Pandora could deliver better analytics out of the box. You can work around these limitations with the help of other tools like Grafana. The shortcomings are mostly on the graphical side. The built-in report generators are a bit limited in some areas. They could improve their management console's ability to monitor large environments could be improved. For example, SNMP management is only partially integrated into the management console.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The additional features offered by the solution are excellent. We didn't have a lot fo these on a previous solution, and they've proven to be an advantage for us."
"The layered architecture is really understandable and easy to use."
"This solution is easy to install and deploy. It is also user-friendly."
"Good control, good visibility, and a single console to manage all the security gateways in our organization are the best features of Check Point Security Management."
"Check Point Security Management has positively impacted my organization by providing centralized control, allowing us to manage all security policies and gateways from a single console, reducing complexity and saving time, and by enabling faster policy updates, which allowed quicker roll-out of rule changes across multiple sites, improving agility and reducing configuration errors."
"The Check Point Security Management has improved the management of all our Security Check Point Gateway Firewalls across the bank."
"The features we like and find the most valuable are the ways we can manage the policy, create objects, and drag and drop objects in our daily operation. It makes our daily operation on the firewall management much easier than going, for example, to one firewall, then going to the other."
"Throughout my professional career I have operated, implemented, and designed solutions with Checkpoint's NGFW for clients of all kinds - public and private, small and large."
"This product has allowed us to identify and correct certain issues that were affecting our solution."
"In comparison with most monitoring software, this software is incredibly easy to use."
"The solution is so lightweight that with only 4GB of ram, it allows keeping track of up to two hundred agents from a single console."
"We are consultants and thanks to Pandora can detect a lot of disasters that other companies can't, and we can offer high availability of the system to the client."
"Thanks to Pandora FMS, we've been able to adapt to every new monitoring challenge over the past seven years."
"We are able to control our business with this all-in-one monitoring tool."
"This solution has screens that are easy to understand and provide a wealth of information."
"Pandora FMS is a powerful monitoring system that has enabled us to identify and resolve IT infrastructure problems before they affect critical business processes."

Cons

"I guess it lacks in providing visibility of the many incidents."
"Check Point Tech Support will not assist with new configurations if we encounter any issues during the configuration process."
"Do the homework because Check Point is rather expensive. There are better firewalls on the market now that are cheaper and provide better functionality and security."
"Check Point Security Management can be improved in terms of policies management and workflow efficiency. For example, the interface can be overwhelming for new users, and simplifying rule creation, offering guided workflows or templates will reduce onboarding time."
"The initial configuration and setup knowledge base document for Check Point Security Management could be upgraded to make it more helpful for configuration reference."
"Some of the configuration elements could be improved."
"In the future, I would like to see more frequent updates because of the changing security landscape."
"Check Point Security Management could be improved with better reporting and dashboard customization options, as having more tailored insights for different stakeholders would enhance visibility, but this is a minor concern."
"I would like for the solution to be faster and have a better tolerance between parallel servers for Pandora and Pest Control."
"Improvements are needed for server and network discovery, including service-based discovery."
"The product lacks APIs for integration with other systems and we have issues with monitoring."
"In its versions for Linux, in the beginning, it can be somewhat complicated to configure and implement."
"The price for Pandora FMS is expensive."
"Third-party integration should be improved for some commonly used products such as Universal CMDB."
"When it comes to the definition of local Software Agents for the first time in the open-source version, it can become very tedious."
"Pandora FMS is relatively new, and the interface with the older version crashes at times. We have several different operating systems, such as Linux and Windows, and Pandora does not run as well in these."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If one will be very expensive, and ten means low price, I rate the tool's price as a three out of ten."
"The solution is expensive and there is an annual license."
"Price-wise, it is an expensive solution."
"The pricing can be estimated around 3 or 4 out of 10 in terms of expense."
"This product can be used for 25 security gateways on a basic license."
"Do the homework because Check Point is rather expensive."
"Check Point is much cheaper than the competition ($4/server as compared to $17/server)."
"The solution is expensive."
"Pandora FMS is easy to implement and the pricing of licenses is competitive."
"Growing the solution or migrating to the Enterprise version is easy, and various plans are available."
"You have to pay for the number of agents and models that you are monitoring. I would rate the cost at three with one being the most expensive and five being the cheapest."
"The open-source version offers 100% functionality and the hardware requirements for a solution like this one are very modest."
"My rule of thumb would be that if you need more than thirty agents, and you lack an automation tool such as Chef or Puppet, you will save a lot of time and money going to the Enterprise edition."
"Only one payment and it includes support, updates, new versions, and access to the complete library of plugins except for SAP and z/OS."
"The Open Source Community Edition is great to just explore the software, or use it on medium-sized infrastructures."
"In terms of money, the Enterprise version is the cheapest that I have found after a market study."
