Easy to use and requires less time to learn or understand its features
I think the product is good in terms of ease of use. The interface looks really nice and very easy to use. Every command appears in the icon. It looks like you don't have to understand everything about the command. You do not necessarily have to know more, or I would say that there is less time for our study about the products. Functionality-wise, it is quite easy to use and requires less time to understand or learn about the product. I am a software vendor, so I do not use the tool myself. I use it for my clients. My clients mostly use it for budgeting and timing purposes. I would say that's really less maintenance at all because they can do everything by themselves. It is good in terms of ease of use.

Automation of financial processes streamlines operations but pricing needs improvement
Our clients mostly use Hyperion for their financial requirements, including budgeting, forecasting, and planning The feature that allows automation of the budgeting and forecasting process is extremely valuable, especially when compared to Excel. The workflow management of planning and the…

It has helped us speed up the turnaround time on our consolidation, and we haven't had anything come up that the program has not been able to solve
The part that we liked about Excel is that it had a better interface in terms of just graphical illustration of our results. So, if we wanted to look at our financial trends and put it into some type of graphical interface for people to look at, we still have to leverage Excel for that. The dashboards aren't as usable as maybe some of the other solutions, such as Tableau or other BI tools. The application that we use today for our BI tools is Tableau. That's how people absorb information. We don't really use the functionality or dashboards within Planful because of the robustness of Tableau. That's our single source of data. If Planful was better or more comparable in terms of features and functionality, we could probably leverage that in Planful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"All the reports are prepared automatically."
"With the combination of 24/7 global support and their community, there was great customer service, tech support, and community support."
"Primary valuable features are its flexibility and versatility and, obviously, functionality goes along with that. Plus, it does that at a small footprint in the file servers, and does it very efficiently."
"A lot of flexibility from the data modeling standpoint. It can add specific line items into our budget, for example, or if we want to make changes to the data model itself, we have that flexibility."
"The flexibility and the user-experience are the most valuable features of the solution."
"Now, we have only one version of the truth."
"The most valuable features are the reporting and the charts. The reporting functionality is handy for aggregation, when it comes to planning. That ability is fascinating and our users are very happy with it. The charts and the reporting allow our users to see all the data and to see how things are going this year or in the COVID situation. They're seeing everything. Instead of having to check data line by line, they're seeing it in a graph and they're seeing it in charts."
"It is very easy to use. It has got what they call a toolkit, which is a no-code development environment. You can develop a whole solution with it because it is a complete platform. There is a lot of online material that can be used as a reference. You can help yourself while developing a solution. There are some prebuilt applications in the platform environment. You can very easily customize and integrate these applications. It also has flexible scaling of machine resources, which is really great."
"The accuracy of data gathering and consolidation is very good."
"Oracle Hyperion has helped make things work faster in our company."
"The tool's most valuable feature of the solution is flexibility and integration capabilities."
"It's basically the same as the other budgeting solutions."
"This solution provides a more structured methodology for doing analysis than a tool like Excel. It creates a central database that keeps all information in one place."
"The feature that allows automation of the budgeting and forecasting process is extremely valuable, especially when compared to Excel."
"Oracle has an integrated solution for Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) and Hyperion. It keeps the two platforms opened up to each other."
"Smart View is a really useful tool because we can have a good API with HFM."
"It has helped us speed up the turnaround time on our consolidation. We don't have to do reporting in Excel anymore, which has cut down on the errors and the efficiency of our close time."

Cons

"Board's integration could be a bit more robust, but what we have works. If the design isn't right, the flexibility of Board can negatively impact performance."
"The setup was a bit complex."
"It can have more functionality for narrative reporting. They should also improve their training courses, which are currently very lightweight. When you get into more complex things, it is quite difficult to figure out what you're supposed to do, and you have to look at a lot of videos before you actually understand, which is a bit frustrating. Their training can be more comprehensive."
"We have had some challenges with newer version of the rollout in terms of stability."
"The engine of the Board should be made powerful like the engine of IBM planning which is more powerful in terms of performance. The consolidated finance area also needs improvement."
"It would be huge in the future if BOARD offered a lot more graphs and presentations, and it was a lot easier to use."
"The one thing that I think we would like to see in terms of improvement of the application is the ability to print. It's fantastic to have all of these graphic visualization of data, but we're not able to very easily just print... From my perspective, if you can have a little "print" button and then you just click it and it would produce what's on the screen, that would be very helpful."
"Building similar models entirely from scratch could be made quicker with transfer abilities between databases and capsules."
"Configuration is a little complex, it's not very easy. The solution is integrated with Essbase and there are not many users of the Essbase database. If they can provide different modules for each subject area, like supply chain, for inventory forecasting or for order management forecasting, it would make each subject area easier to manage."
"I would love more comment capabilities so that you could put in little notes, cheat notes."
"What I like is to have everything on one platform and not in different modules like Oracle Hyperion."
"Pricing is a significant concern. After moving to PBCS and EPBCS, the per-user license fees can be reduced, particularly for bulk users."
"The analytical side of the product could be better and needs to be improved."
"Integrating Oracle Hyperion, a multidimensional database, with relational databases poses challenges due to the differing database structures."
"The pricing model could be more flexible as it's more expensive than its competitors."
"It is challenging to do reporting on Oracle Hyperion if you're not an expert."
"The part that we liked about Excel is that it had a better interface in terms of just graphical illustration of our results. So, if we wanted to look at our financial trends and put it into some type of graphical interface for people to look at, we still have to leverage Excel for that. The dashboards aren't as usable as maybe some of the other solutions, such as Tableau or other BI tools."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is not the cheapest product on earth, but you get so much. It provides good value for money."
"Find a partner who will take responsibility for the implementation, and be available for support."
"In terms of the pricing, it was reasonable. BOARD is not the lowest in the market, but it was reasonable for us."
"The tool's price is a bit high compared to other solutions."
"The solution is quite expensive, if it is made cheaper then we can have more clients. I rate it four out of ten."
"We pay for licensing yearly."
"It might be considered relatively costly compared to some alternatives."
"Oracle Hyperion is not an inexpensive solution."
"The solution is affordable."
"Compared with MSBA, it is quite reasonable."
"As Oracle's pricing is on the higher end, most businesses prefer to have their own private cloud."
"The licenses cost approximately $1,000."
"The licensing cost for the on-premises version of the solution is too high."
"Right now, everything is on a three-year term contract, and that is our main cost."
