Helps to make mainframe data management process easier and saves manhours

We plan to replace BMC Compuware File-AID due to its price. Two years back, we paid 11,000 dollars. However, the current price is 27,900 dollars. The price has increased to at least eight times its initial cost. We would need to pay around 60,000 dollars to have all three products together. We also encountered issues during version updates.

Offers flexibility and ease of integration while needing improvements in data flow management

I haven't worked with Talend Data Integration on real-time data processing; I have only seen the streaming component, and I think it can accommodate limited streaming, not at the level of larger big data platforms. Regarding ETL, Talend Data Integration is great, but concerning real-time data processing, people are not really sure about Talend Data Integration or might not know how it provides such types of flexibilities. I haven't worked on this aspect in Talend Data Integration, so this is definitely an area where it lacks. To elaborate on one drawback, if I am designing something in Talend Data Integration, I cannot backtrack in the flow. For example, if I read data from a source and transform it before applying complex aggregation in the third step, I cannot join this data with the second step. If I need to go back, I will have to use a memory component, or if I need to avoid memory consumption, I will have to read the data from step one again to join it with the third step.

Everybody could have their own package with their own version of the component in it... ISPW is constantly aware of it. It notifies when someone else is using or has a different version of that component."

Compuware Xpediter is one of the best debugging tools for mainframe software development. We have currently licensed only the COBOL language for Xpediter, but I know they have other languages, including Assembler, PL/I."

"There are some features that are not well documented, so documentation could use a little help, on things like setting up deployment and which structures in the database correspond to which tables."

"It's not as intuitive as it should be. In terms of navigation, there is a large training curve for using it. For a millennial it might be better, if they're used to Eclipse. But coming from a non-Eclipse environment and using Eclipse, though I have experience with Eclipse, it might be cumbersome."

"It would be good if the vendors would work together or at least have some collaboration between them, so they would know what would work and what wouldn't work. Right now, the way things are working, they're relying on the customer to make everything work."

BMC Compuware should have more in-depth explanations about what the choices in each question mean. If you pick A, what does that mean has to happen? What does that impact? "I'm waiting to see what 19.2 for Topaz looks like, but I have a problem with the JES Explorer right now. It limits you to a certain prefix for job names and there are some groups that have multiple prefixes that they'd like to see all at once in their job names, because of how they work in a group. And they can't see that in the JES Explorer."

"The solution could be improved by being better integrated with the open world. In the next release, I would like to have the ability to work in an open environment whilst remaining integrated with the legacy environment."
