The ability to maintain multiple restore points is critical because it lets customers choose to restore their data to an hour or a day ago
BDRSuite is better than competing solutions because it can protect, back up, and recover data. A feature called live migration allows you to recover the same data in different environments. For example, I can back up the data from a VMware machine and restore it to a Hyper-V. You can also create repositories and back up environments to a cloud platform like GCP and AWS S3 buckets. BDRSuite allows you to back up virtual machines hosted on an EC3 instance or Microsoft 365 mailboxes, SharePoint, etc. The solution allows us to recover data instantly. We can recover all our data in under 15 minutes. In a virtual environment, we can recover a virtual machine and all its data in under 15 minutes. It's the same for a NAS, SAN, or DAS disk. The ability to boot instantly enables customers to maintain their business operations without interruption. BDRSuite's ability to maintain multiple restore points is critical because it gives customers the option to restore their data to an hour or a day ago. They can choose a full, incremental, or synthetic backup. Incremental backup makes sense if you are backing up the same data daily and you want to save space and network resources. It only backs up the differences or updates in every block. I've worked with lots of backup solutions, and BDRSuite is the easiest to use. It's simple to install and create backup jobs. It doesn't require many tasks to install the solution. You can easily back up and restore from one console

Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The automated backup of multiple virtual machines. We can back up two hypervisors, one is Microsoft Hyper-V and the other one is VMware Hypervisor."
"The compression, encryption and deduplication features are fabulous and great stuff."
"Vembu provides us with a way to instantly recover data. It offers instant data recovery through a local backup server deployed at the customer's site. We can quickly recover data either by copying it back to the main server or if the backup server is powerful enough, we can also directly start a virtual machine from the backup."
"While BDRSuite offers a variety of functionalities, our primary focus is its disaster recovery capabilities, which we find to be the most valuable aspect of the software."
"Because all our servers are hosted on VMware, the VMware backup is the most valuable feature. The integration and backup with VMware are very good."
"Valuable features include Snapshots and the constant backup for SQL, application services, and Active Directory."
"The most valuable feature is the Hyper-V backup - it's just one click. I don't have to worry about it."
"We use it to maintain critical data and save it."
"The product has many valuable features for handling backup needs, including replication, live migration, and incremental disaster recovery."
"We use the latest feature in Altaro called CDP (Continuous Data Protection) to back up our VMs as often as every five minutes. It allows us to make sure no data is accidentally deleted or overwritten."
"I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy."
"The intuitive interface allows you to set up and perform backups and restores easily."
"The interface is user-friendly and even if our tech isn't onsite, we can work with the owners to confirm that the data will be restored with no issues."
"We frequently use the granular restore option for when our users accidentally delete files or to recover emails from mailboxes. We have found that to be a must-have feature and it comes with the solution at no extra cost."
"Valuable features for us include quick recovery, compression, and deduplication."
"This solution is stable."

Cons

"We are still exploring its features, but we want to see more features that we desire over time."
"Vembu BDR currently supports backups of O365, although it does not currently have an email archiving function to the O365 backups."
"There was one issue though with the hardware IDs. When I went to a different version of Hyper-V, the hardware IDs weren't restored and the machine got two new IDs. The preliminary unique IDs weren't restored, so I had to reactivate programs."
"The dashboard should more interactive."
"I would like to have a different set of products instead of having a single software which does everything."
"One thing that I reported with the backups: When there are accentuated characters in a path, then we can't restore documents into a folder. There is a bug with the restoration and restoring files with accentuated characters in the path. Hopefully, they have repaired this because otherwise we will restore files and find out that they are not there."
"The reports are at a basic level and there is room for improvement there. It only has historical reports and VM backup job-level reports."
"In the beginning, when we had some hiccups, I would chalk that up more to a learning curve for the product."
"Hornetsecurity Altaro VM Backup could be improved in several areas, such as enhancing scalability features and possibly reducing the price."
"It would be nice to see a feature that backs up the host so that, in case of a server failure, an entire server could be restored all at once."
"Replication is not fast, the GUI could be more user-friendly, and technical support is lacking in Iran."
"Basically, how it works is that you have a single local drive, and then you have a cloud backup. It'd be nice if you could rotate the single local backup drive. As of now, you can't."
"To improve Altaro, I would like to see the ability to choose more than one backup location at a time."
"It would be nice to be able to recover the items to their original location."
"The scalability of the solution is limited."
"Availability of physical server backup would be an added advantage."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's just the license per host with one CPU, but if I did choose offsite cloud replication, they do charge for the data. They charge per gigabyte, or something like that. They have plans."
"It is very cost efficient, effective. I’d say it's one-third the cost of Veritas when compared to the server backups. I even tried image backups on Acronis, but Acronis is very expensive. So these are some of the key reasons why I opted for it."
"This solution helped us deliver an enterprise level data protection solution and reduced our budget by 50 percent. We spent $3,000 on Vembu's licenses where other solutions were almost double."
"For our company, the current price of Vembu against Veeam is a few times cheaper. In our infrastructure, if we picked Veeam, we would have to pay about $20,000 per year. Now, we are currently paying about $2,000 per year for Vembu. You can do the math. The price is great."
"It's more affordable than Veeam, so smaller companies can afford to have a solution like this in place, which is very nice."
"BDRSuite is competitively priced."
"Vembu is too expensive because they don't really have small-business pricing. This is a matter of personal opinion. They're going to tell you that they have competitive pricing because there are more expensive solutions in the marketplace, but there are better solutions in the marketplace that are more expensive. Their product is a better fit for small businesses, but they don't price it that way."
"At the moment, I am doing Vembu for one host. My costs are about $25 USD a month for a single host up to 100 VMs."
"Its yearly maintenance fee is fairly high for me to renew for upgrades and support."
"The price is great for the utility you get and the licensing has never caused any issues with my company."
"No other product offers these features for this price. The ROI is great."
"VMware is a little pricey, but it is a good solution and priced similar to other products."
"Altaro had the best prices and ROI in the whole bunch that we evaluated."
"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced. It is a best value for its price and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"By implementing the solution at multiple locations, significant cost savings were achieved."
"There is a free version for two VMs. I would advise to study the deployment environment well, prior to committing to order a license per host."
