Ease of backup and restore improves data management with reliable support

The interface of BDRSuite Backup & Replication is pretty intuitive. Regarding their marketing strategy, I'm very bad at marketing. I always get a little edgy when people try to shove their product in my face. There are two sides to the story. If you don't know something exists, you might not even start to look for it unless you really know that you need it. If you are explicitly looking for a solution, then you'll find it. People that don't know that they should do backup don't have a place in IT. I rate BDRSuite Backup & Replication 8.5 out of 10.

Automated disaster recovery has cut manual work and now protects cross‑region workloads confidently

There are three major areas where Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS can be improved: infrastructure as code integration, predictive AI analytics, and data compression. Currently, we construct our automated landing zones using IaC, but we still have to jump into Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS UI afterwards to manually configure the application backup groups and policies. Being able to declare all our backup schedules directly inside our Terraform code would streamline our automation pipelines massively. In terms of predictive AI reporting, it needs to be more reliable. While it executes scheduled backups perfectly, it lacks proactive anomaly detection. We want the AI agent to accurately predict and flag a potential backup failure or snapshot timeout before the job actually triggers and fails. This would save our DevOps team tons of triage time.

Partial restore is very important because there might be some files which are newer than the backup and some files that are corrupted. You need to restore some files from the backup, but not all the files."

"There are bugs. For one month, I encountered a big issue where my storage pool could not be identified. My backups were stopped because they were not able to locate the storage pool. So, I removed the settings and started the backups again. The application is not stable. It needs some debugging and testing on the build side of production."

"We do a lot of internal automation, so the Vembu API definitely has some gaps. The Vembu API could definitely use some improvement. We do rely a lot on automation outside of just the regular interface. We've noticed that the Vembu GUI is good, but we do leverage the APIs for a lot of stuff, and there's definitely some room for improvement there."

"It is very easy, unless you know exactly what you're doing, to corrupt the virtual machines and they get locked up. Just brief detail: When you are creating a system, if you don't have absolutely every other little background processes in place, it creates Snapshots of the virtual machines. Once it does that, it then won't be able to have a backup. From that point on you have to destroy the virtual machine, which is completely counterproductive on a large system. There is a fundamental flaw in the setup that can be very dangerous, potentially."

"I would like to have a different set of products instead of having a single software which does everything."

They also wanted us to allow them remote access to our machines without us watching what they're doing, which is a huge security risk for us. "It has actually benefited my operation a fair bit. VMware requires a special hardware while Hyper-V runs on pretty much anything. It doesn't require any special hardware, so it saves a bit of money. Because Vembu does Hyper-V backup, there is no limit on how many VMs you can have. The newer version has a 100 VM limit on the single license, which has been greatly beneficial, because on one host a 100 VMs is a fair bit."

What was not clear enough in the documentation on the website was that that you're licensing per CPU socket and you are only licensing on the restore sockets, not the backup sockets. It's a bit technical, but it was very well explained during the demonstration that we had during the evaluation period."
