Accommodates diverse use cases and effectively meets customer requirements
AI agents need further improvements. AI agent technology in agentic process automation is still evolving. We have only scratched the surface, and there are many potential use cases yet to be explored. As technology advances, I believe it will enable us to implement more comprehensive automation solutions. Document Automation has issues related to speed. When I compare Document Automation with IQ Bot, IQ Bot is faster than Document Automation. My understanding is that they are still evolving Document Automation, and this issue of slowness will be resolved in the upcoming .35 version, so we are good with that. They are working on signature identification and validations for handwritten documents. Currently, we are able to extract data out of scanned but digital images, but there is still scope for improvement for handwritten documents.

Good data ingestion and classification capabilities, supports various media types and formats, and the interface is easy to use
Currently, we're still using version 2-7-2, and now they're about to do the beta release on their version 2021. In this coming version, we expect that some of our issues will be fixed. We've had challenges in classification tasks where similar documents were flagged as multiple matches. The system would identify them and say, "Hey, I think I've got multiple matches. It could either be this one or that one." Because of that, it required us to instruct the system to either leave it unclassified, or we had to halt the process for somebody to look at it. With the new version for 2021, they have changed the paradigm. As it is now, we're using something called a form type, where pages within the document are referenced using a specific page number. For example, in a ten-page document, you might refer to information specifically on the first or fifth page. In the new paradigm, there is a first, middle, and last page concept, as opposed to having the different form types with all of the different pages. What they're telling me is that it's going to make the classification more accurate. Just because the first page of two different documents looks the same, they will not be considered duplicates. Having multiple points of reference will now allow it to better distinguish them. The other area we have had challenges with is table extractions, where if the data headers were not defined, or the tables did not have descriptions for the columns. My understanding is that in the 2021 version, they've now shown that they're handling that. Again, we don't have it and haven't been able to test it, but it's coming. Technical support is definitely an area that they need improvement in, in terms of the front-line individuals.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The customer engagement is really deep, and they work with the “gemba”. They work with operations very closely. I also believe they have a good product roadmap."
"What I appreciate most about Automation Anywhere is the ease of use. Everything is easy to set up. I also appreciate the extensibility that it has."
"Automation Anywhere has helped us save on both time and cost."
"Automation is going to become a new area we will certainly encourage a lot of people to pursue because of the lasting dividends it provides, including saving time and manpower."
"I liked the Automation Anywhere University. It was easy and simple. I hoped that it wouldn't take too much of my time, and it didn't, which was good."
"It helps increase productivity by 20% to 30%."
"The most valuable feature of Automation Anywhere is the unattended mode bots, because we don't need to go and look at what they're doing. They just go by themselves."
"It has helped us a lot with our digitized work."
"The user interface is easy to use, and the flexibility is noteworthy."
"Lexicons where the key vocabulary can be inputted it is very helpful."
"There are many options and customizations that you can make to each individual extractor that allows you to tweak it for exactly what you need."
"Grooper processes difficult sorts of data and unstructured or semi-structured content very well. It's probably one of the better solutions I've seen compared to other solutions I've seen out there. It does a lot more things like segmentation extraction. It does it a lot better. Grooper has more focus on these types of freeform documents where other solutions are very generic and this is a little more elaborate in what they've done. I think they take it to the next level of extracting freeform data."

Cons

"The vendor should increase the training and other engagements with users before they acquire the platform, as this will simplify its usage further and ensure that there no hindrances in using the platform."
"The product should improve on Voice Recognition and IoT pretty soon, as this is the next big thing in and I would like to see this upgraded in the next release."
"When I change the name of a variable in the Variable Manager, I would really like it to change in the code."
"We looked at the Bot Store initially and didn't find much."
"As a developer or user, I feel that the performance of the overall package could be made a little better or reliable. For example, if I'm opening up a heavy Excel file, which is uploaded in some shared drive over the net, and I have my box coded to open that Excel to do some work or formatting on it, and depending on the network load and the size of the file, this client version while trying to access that file becomes unstable at times. It goes into the hang position until a human being comes in, ends the task, and restarts it. Until this happens, it does not respond."
"The initial cost of Automation Anywhere, including license fees and integration costs, is high. It is challenging for business users to operationalize the tool independently."
"The Recorder action in the A2019 Community edition is not supported."
"They sell every different functionality in too many separate packages, making the procurement process complicated as it requires paying additional licensing for more features."
"Technical support is definitely an area that they need improvement in, in terms of the front-line individuals."
"If Grooper could "sense" important fields on the document and auto-build extractors for them, that'd be really cool."
"Grooper is new. It's new beta stuff, so we've had some issues, but that's understandable. Getting the beta product to more of a true release is where it needs improvement. I'm going through training now, so it's hard to judge what they have and don't have until I get through that training. Training is the main thing for me because I'm trying to learn and take things I've learned from other products and try to transfer that knowledge to this one."
"They should have more sub-extractors or exclusion extractors so that the user does not have to make a parent data type."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The enterprise version is expensive for small businesses and individual users."
"Yearly, our licensing costs are about $90,000 to $100,000. There will be additional licensing costs when we add more Bot Runners to our infrastructure."
"Automation Anywhere University is pretty good. They make it available free for everyone."
"The licensing cost is approximately $4,000 USD, which is a seed license."
"We just did a round of price comparison on a global scale and found it's so hard to compare the license prices. But, Automation Anywhere, in general, is on the same price level as the other vendors, a bit lower in some cases."
"AA comes at a more affordable price than the other tools."
"The pricing is reasonable and one can achieve ROI faster when compared to other tools."
"There may be room for the product to be more competitively priced to excel in the market."
"Know how many pages you will be needing to process, as the pricing is based on that."
"Overall, their pricing is higher than the competitors, but they offer functionality that is otherwise not available."
