Capable of handling a wide range of business processes but presents users complexity with two interfaces (Java application and web interface)
ARIS needs to make a better user interface. The user interface sucks. The problem with ARIS is that they have two interfaces for the same product. You can use either a Java application or a web interface. The web interface doesn't give you access to the same features as the Java application. You have to switch between the two interfaces to get some things done. The web interface is more intuitive, but it lacks the functionality of the Java interface. So I'd give it a six for that reason. The Java interface has more functionality, but it tends to run out of memory and has its own set of problems. So, I'd also give it a six out of ten because of the technology choice. It was really frustrating having two UIs for the same product, with some functionality in one and not in the other. They've got to do something about that.

Has built-in, existing processes that can be easily modified
In terms of what could be improved, I would not say that the solution itself needs improvement, meaning the product side, but more that the overall approach of the organization does. At the moment there are very few people who can lead training for the product. I think that area needs to improve. They should train more organizations because now they're the only ones that do training. As the product gets more and more customers, it takes longer to schedule a training. They need to get more training providers. The vendor is the only one doing the training. You schedule it in March and you find you can only do training quite far down the line and maybe you also want to do deployment. They're still entering the South African market, but I think now they have enough customers to get other providers so you won't have wait too long for the training before you can start running with the product.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has the ability to scale up, as well as integrate with other systems within the organization to get real-time information from dashboards and reports."
"Aris BPA has a lot of tools that are more professional than Bizagi."
"We also have relationships specified with our IT systems and our organizational chart. That makes it possible to analyze things from the systems point of view and regarding the organizational part of the company. It all comes together in one tool and that is what gives us the most value at the moment."
"In general, the users really like it and they can get started using it very easily."
"Objects can be reused across different BPMNs and processes, so we can design new processes quicker and easier."
"The solution has come up with a web portal that makes it easy to model and show to clients."
"you want to do modeling with the old notation form, ours was EPC, you can use the same object in the BPMN because the database is built in a way that you can use both things. So you only have to define it once, and if the notation form is BPMN and those kind of activities, you can use the same EPCs, so there is a connection between them."
"The most valuable feature is the flexibility of the solution to fully customize the methodology according to the company's needs, and to enforce that methodology with features like filters, semantic checks, and reports."
"One of the things that I have found most valuable is that it is very easy to use. For example, they have built-in existing processes that you can easily modify."

Cons

"Displaying role allocation matrix models in ARIS Connect needs improvement."
"They should make improvements as per customer requirements."
"ARIS BPA’s usability could be improved."
"Migration to the next release is very tricky. You can't do it without support from ARIS or from a software kit. And it takes a lot of time and a lot of money to migrate. My impression is that a lot of companies do not migrate regularly because of that issue."
"The pricing of the solution can be improved and the initial setup should be made easy."
"One of the issues is, when you are defining databases, the way they use entities and relationship diagrams, the way we can define data, like data models, there is still a part they could improve."
"In terms of improvement, the app could use some small details and functionalities."
"The model graphics can be exported in PDF, but the model is too small to read."
"At the moment there are very few people who can lead training for the product. I think that area needs to improve."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"ARIS is quite expensive."
"This is absolutely not the cheapest solution in the market, but for large companies, the price is fine."
"The pricing and licensing costs are available on their website. They will assign a relationship manager to assist if you show further interest in their products."
"ARIS enables you to start small and grow the use of the solution over time, although it's quite expensive. So if you want to start small, it's quite an investment for a small company."
"In terms of pricing, it would be nice if it were more affordable."
"The product is inexpensive."
"ARIS BPA is too costly from a licensing perspective."
"It is an expensive solution."
