Apigee empowers effective API management while needing improvements in technical support
There is room for improvement with Apigee as OPDK private cloud enhancements have stopped, focusing only on Apigee hybrid and Apigee X, with Google no longer adding new features to OPDK private cloud. I am not currently utilizing AI in the private cloud with Apigee, but I'm unsure about hybrid and Apigee X.

Good reporting and interface, but supports limited types of protocols and requires low-level script editing
It should have more interfaces. In terms of interfaces or protocols, what you can do with Rational is far limited as compared to other products out there. What it does, it does great, but it only gives you limited types of protocols. It supports between 8 to 15 types of protocols, whereas other test tools give you 20 to 30 types of protocols with which you can do testing and convert to script. It records Javascript-based scripts, and you got to know a little bit of Java to basically be able to edit them, but the level of editing you got to do is very low. I like that, but the ability to edit the script is not as good as Parasoft or LoadRunner, which have C-Script.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Easy interface to monetize and deliver APIs with very easy integration for third-party development environments/delivery."
"This is a front-layer gateway that helps to improve our overall performance."
"I have not encountered instability with the product."
"A special feature is configuring target servers, proxy config, and Cert related security, which regularizes incoming traffic from cloud users or external applications to internal applications in a secured manner."
"The tool is one of the earliest API management products and is good. It reduces the Time To Market aspects of products."
"The features for API security have been significant with Apigee."
"One of the best parts of this solution is the implementation as we did not need to use code or out-of-box policies. When it comes to the cloud-based architecture, there is a high level of reliability."
"It has a very efficient logging system which is easy to maintain."
"This solution provides for API testing, functional UI testing, performance testing, and service virtualization."
"Reporting is pretty good. Its interface is also good. I'm overall pretty happy with the functionality and use of IBM Rational Test Workbench."

Cons

"The user interface could be better. It could be easier to navigate and more user-friendly."
"The pricing for the product was a bit higher. I also found it challenging to manage sometimes."
"The account simplification process can be improved."
"They need to work on the cost of the solution."
"The solution could add even more functionalities."
"When there is an update on a new version or an automatic update, you have to be present and double-check that the update is reflected in the environment with no issues."
"Apigee is costlier compared to other solutions. For government organizations, especially those that do not want cloud-based solutions and prefer on-premise implementations, we recommend WSO2 due to its cost-effectiveness and suitability for private cloud environments."
"The Apigee cloud admin UI could be more user-friendly by adding a few more features."
"There are a number of things that they can do to simplify the tools, but the most important thing that they need to do is simplify the installation."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is an expensive solution."
"It is a bit on the expensive side. Its licensing cost is a bit high, and that's where we've seen people going back on their decisions."
"If the budget is not a concern then I will choose to go with Apigee over WSA-2, but if it is then I would prefer the latter solution."
"Apigee has several different licenses you can obtain depending on your needs."
"It was fairly expensive. I don't know what the standard pricing is. I want to say that it's something like $80,000 for 800 million requests (approximately) a year."
"You do not necessarily pay for the license. The cloud solution is based more on transactions. So, you pay for it either way."
"Since it was acquired by Google, we can get a license based on our requirements and the cost level will depend on cloud access and support."
"The solution’s pricing could be more competitive."
"It doesn't really concern me. Licensing is on a yearly basis."
"The pricing is a little bit on the higher side, although it is really good."
