Apigee empowers effective API management while needing improvements in technical support
There is room for improvement with Apigee as OPDK private cloud enhancements have stopped, focusing only on Apigee hybrid and Apigee X, with Google no longer adding new features to OPDK private cloud. I am not currently utilizing AI in the private cloud with Apigee, but I'm unsure about hybrid and Apigee X.

Good reporting and interface, but supports limited types of protocols and requires low-level script editing
It should have more interfaces. In terms of interfaces or protocols, what you can do with Rational is far limited as compared to other products out there. What it does, it does great, but it only gives you limited types of protocols. It supports between 8 to 15 types of protocols, whereas other test tools give you 20 to 30 types of protocols with which you can do testing and convert to script. It records Javascript-based scripts, and you got to know a little bit of Java to basically be able to edit them, but the level of editing you got to do is very low. I like that, but the ability to edit the script is not as good as Parasoft or LoadRunner, which have C-Script.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Apigee is a great product with good feedback and recommendations from clients."
"I use it because it's simple, it automatically updates, and It hasn't given me any issues."
"The most valuable features of Apigee for me are analytics, security, ease of use, and integration capabilities."
"Apigee provides good documentation."
"Apigee has proven to be one of the best of the breed."
"It's a good return on my investment."
"Apigee is very easy to use, and you can code in any language."
"API/proxy lifecycle workflow for API providers is quite good and one of Apigee's strongest features."
"Reporting is pretty good. Its interface is also good. I'm overall pretty happy with the functionality and use of IBM Rational Test Workbench."
"This solution provides for API testing, functional UI testing, performance testing, and service virtualization."

Cons

"Apigee is costlier compared to other solutions. For government organizations, especially those that do not want cloud-based solutions and prefer on-premise implementations, we recommend WSO2 due to its cost-effectiveness and suitability for private cloud environments."
"There is potential for improvement in specific domain integrations, such as standard integration capabilities needed for banking or retail sectors."
"Apigee's product cost is quite high compared to other products. Customers think that going with Google ensures quick resolution of security or performance issues."
"Analytics is one of the areas needing enhancement, specifically more visibility and control over traffic to improve capacity management and high availability."
"Apigee lacks market presence."
"Proxy versioning seems a bit confusing/buried in the publishing experience, especially for the URI-based versioning approach."
"The company needs to better support webhooks. It used to support webhooks and their policies and they have since stopped. They had some issues in the product and they abandoned the support for them. It's not come back since."
"The user interface could be better. It could be easier to navigate and more user-friendly."
"There are a number of things that they can do to simplify the tools, but the most important thing that they need to do is simplify the installation."
"It should have more interfaces. In terms of interfaces or protocols, what you can do with Rational is far limited as compared to other products out there. Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its price is reasonable for the features they provide and the maturity of the platform."
"The prices are comparable."
"Apigee is a pretty expensive solution."
"In Latin America, Apigee is expensive. It's not for small businesses; it's more for big businesses."
"We have a contract for three years. I don't know the cost."
"The solution is a bit expensive. It's not for organizations in the early stages of their lifecycle but is more suited for mid- to enterprise-level platforms. Pricing varies by deployment model, with SaaS being the cheapest, costing around $100,000 per year for a subscription. For hybrid and on-prem deployments, the price increases. The on-prem model includes a license and additional installation and configuration professional service costs, which can be at least $40,000 to $60,000 for the initial setup. While it's not cheap, it offers long-term value and can be worthwhile."
"If the budget is not a concern then I will choose to go with Apigee over WSA-2, but if it is then I would prefer the latter solution."
"Compared to other products, Apigee had higher pricing."
"It doesn't really concern me. Licensing is on a yearly basis."
"The pricing is a little bit on the higher side, although it is really good."
