It's easy to set up because you point the DNS to it, and it's working in under 15 minutes
Cloudflare is highly scalable. Cloudflare is a system with a web portal that the end users like me see. It's a console where we can adjust the DNS, caching, and security features all in that console. Cloudflare owns thousands of servers across the world that cache the data. It's a powerful solution. When clients sign up for Cloudflare, they're getting this monster content delivery network, security, and a web application firewall in one. It's all rolled into one, and it's massive. Unless you have your website hosted on a massive hosting provider, there's no way that you can deliver the amount of data that Cloudflare can provide to the end users. If you have static content, there's no way that you can ever match what Cloudflare can do. Obviously, there are competitors to Cloudflare that do the same, but I'm saying other types of solutions. Let's say you go with F5. Great, that's on-prem. That's in your colo. You can't deliver as much data to the internet as you can with a CDN. You don't have to spend $20,000 on a net scaler, F5, or whatever Cisco's selling now. You don't have to buy that. You pay them $50 a month or $150 a month. It's totally worth it because even in five years, you'll never get the performance value, not just the actual ROI. You have to consider how much throughput you can get with Cloudflare.

Seamlessly manages security and dynamic content hosting in diverse applications
Hosting static content or with engineering dynamic content is beneficial. CloudFront provides a common access point, manages routing to different methods, and serves as an access point plus API routing. With AWS, maintenance is not required as it's a service offered by AWS which maintains itself. Security concerns are manageable through AWS's security mechanisms, with additional security enhancement possible through options like WAF and NACL.

The control panel is nicely laid out and I do not have to hunt for functionality
I only use this service for this use case. For this, it is absolutely fine. I have not tried any of the other features they offer so I cannot comment on those. If you are a low-use user and not used the minimum credit, it will be lost at end of year unless you upgrade, then you are left with more bandwidth than you can ever use. Thus, for low-use users, it can be more expensive than it seems. It would be a disadvantage for a lot of hobby users. I think this could be improved.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution offers the flexibility to control configuration rules."
"Cloudflare offers CDN and DDoS protection. We have the front end, API, and database in how you structure applications."
"The web application firewall brought us good security and a view of the accesses/blocks of the entire domain and subdomain that were accessed both by region (country) and IPs."
"What I like best about Cloudflare is that my company can use it to trace and manage applications and monitor traffic. The solution tells you if there's a spike in traffic. Cloudflare also sends you a link to check your equipment and deployment and track it through peering, so it's a valuable tool."
"The most valuable feature of Cloudflare is the GUI. You are able to control the solution very well through the interface. There is a lot of functionality that is embedded in the service."
"Its most significant benefit to date is the speed with which it refreshes DNS records on the internet once you change it. If you are changing a website or registering a new record, it is very quick."
"Centralized, full-featured DNS."
"I get a lot of value from Cloudflare's API because it enables you to build a separate environment inside the solution. You can create a domain for performing test requests before you move to the production environment and connect various domains."
"The solution makes our platform fully accessible and available globally, helping us to ensure that our customers can rely on it being up and running."
"Amazon CloudFront provides valuable security by ensuring secure file access when accessing files from S3."
"It is stable."
"The solution improves performance by reducing latency and cost."
"The product's most valuable feature is its ability to deliver content to users nearby."
"The image loading process is easy and cost-effective too."
"If you're using AWS entirely, it's smooth sailing."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is the speed of delivery."
"The control panel is nicely laid out and I do not have to hunt for functionality."
"Purge pages: It is a fast solution for updating my content from all datacenters."
"It has helped improve load speed on the site."
"It is extremely easy to set up and integrate with WordPress and purge files as needed through the control panel."
"I selected CDN77 because it has servers where our different target markets are (some are in Asia)."
"It has improved our organization by providing quick access to resources."

Cons

"The solution could use more analytics on the backend to give us more insights into everything. More reports would be helpful."
"We have noticed multiple instances where Cloudflare falsely indicates that our servers are down, even when there is no actual load on them. This makes it challenging for us to identify the exact issue."
"There could be more courses with engineers. I like e-learning, however, having a specialist in a classroom is more comfortable for me."
"The integration of LLMs on the dashboard is something that is needed in the tool."
"The pricing could be improved."
"Cloudflare could be improved by introducing a mid-tier pricing option."
"The documentation could improve for Cloudflare DNS."
"Cloudflare doesn't have a reverse lookup. We can only do a DNS lookup to get the IP address from the hostname. It doesn't work if you want to look up the hostname from an IPA address."
"The solution could be more simplified for new users. It could be more user-friendly."
"It might benefit from multi-region support to enhance performance."
"The product should be more intuitive."
"AWS is redesigning its user interface and user experience for CloudFront, and there is room for improvement in certificate management."
"Sometimes, the server goes down automatically."
"I have utilized certain characteristics and invested effort in reading the documentation, which proved to be challenging."
"The UI could be more user-friendly."
"I would like to see an increase in distribution regions in Africa. There are currently only a few regions available."
"A year ago, I had to deal with SEO factors involving duplication of content."
"If you are a low-use user and not used the minimum credit, it will be lost at end of year unless you upgrade, then you are left with more bandwidth than you can ever use."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When you compare Cloudflare DNS to other solutions, such as Akamai, the price is reasonable."
"The pricing for the service is reasonable, neither excessively cheap nor prohibitively expensive. It aligns well with the value of their solution."
"For Cloudflare, I recommend it heavily for small businesses with revenue under a couple of million dollars. Onboarding is easy, and they even have a free plan. This makes it simple for businesses in the $100,000-$500,000 range to try it out and see its value, allowing them to scale up their infrastructure as needed."
"I think the pricing is competitive. I think as far as licensing is concerned it's pretty straightforward because it's based on domain. It's just that sometimes domains could be tricky with some customers."
"A free version of the solution is available."
"So far I use free tier and happy with it. You can subscribe to business package if needed."
"In terms of licensing costs, we don't pay for licensing for Cloudflare. We only establish communication, then for peering, Cloudflare takes care of the cross-connection in different data centers."
"The solution is expensive when compared to other products but offers unlimited bandwidth."
"The solution’s price is reasonable."
"We do not have many options to optimize costs."
"The policies and prices keep on changing frequently with AWS solutions"
"I used to work with AWS and Azure, and we provided cost comparisons for customers to help them choose the right services. Azure tends to be more user-friendly and easier to understand, while AWS may take more time."
"Amazon's pricing varies depending on the data transfer."
"I rate the product's pricing an eight out of ten. The licensing follows a pay-as-you-go model."
"Its price is really on the high side. It should be cheaper in general."
"The tool is affordable."
"For low-use users, it can be more expensive than it seems. It would be a disadvantage for a lot of hobby users."
"Regarding the pricing, it is expensive. It may not suit others. I suggest a lower recharge level and also to remove the credit expiry time."
"I would suggest low usage cases that there are other options available, such as WordPress's own CDN."
