Very scalable, sustainable, and flexible with good technical support
Our company uses the solution as a content delivery network. We enhance website performance and have about 150 customers in Taiwan who use the solution.  The solution is very sustainable and flexible.  The solution could offer more integrations.  I have been using the solution for one year.…

A CDN solution that has rich documentation and resources
The tool's deployment is easy. For inexperienced resources, I rate deployment difficulty an eight out of ten. For me, it's nine point five out of ten. The product comes with a vast amount of resources and documentation. We had a deadline of one and a half months. However, we could go into production within four weeks, i.e., 25 days. Deployment includes quality assurance and staging processes. One resource is enough to handle the deployment process. The person responsible for deploying the solution should know CI/CD processes. They should understand security compliance, gate methodologies, and the functioning of code push and pull. Familiarity with Webhooks and the dashboard of AWS CodePipeline or check kits is necessary. Once the setup is done, the tool doesn't require frequent changes. Two resources are needed for maintenance, and one would be enough later.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature in managing web traffic has been the ability to handle vertical scaling effectively."
"The solution's technical support is very prompt and good."
"The solution is very sustainable and flexible."
"Akamai's scalability is good."
"Akamai has a very established network of PoPs globally."
"We can see how much traffic can be downloaded on the portal."
"This solution can be used for web , video and media caching and streaming."
"With 300 servers deployed worldwide, it's highly scalable and is the best web application firewall on the market."
"The most valuable feature is the number of servers they can put your content in while being reliable."
"The solution has good security features."
"Its main advantage is that it offers something in this region that wasn't available before; previously, you had to go outside of the region to get the same level of service that you can now access right here in Bahrain. It's truly incredible. Building this IX has significantly changed how traffic is handled. The technical support is good. The initial setup is very straightforward. I rate the solution a perfect ten."
"The product’s most valuable feature is the availability of the websites."
"The support team is knowledgeable."
"The tool is highly available and reliable. It helps to access server applications easily. Integrating Amazon CloudFront with other AWS services was very easy, I would rate it eight out of ten."
"The speed and usability of the solution are valuable."
"The AWS environment was very helpful in terms of integration."

Cons

"Akamai's configuration part is an area of concern where improvements are required to make the process easy."
"While it's great for solutions with high scalability, like global e-commerce, it's not really built for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). It has too many options and can be complex for SMBs to utilize."
"The fact that it is an expensive product is its only shortcoming."
"Akamai could improve by providing its own cloud services. We have to use third-party cloud services at this time, such as Amazon AWS. The offering becomes a lot easier for an SMB if everything was in one single platform to be used for the services."
"Local connectivity would be great linked to our own telecom/Cablevision CDN."
"Caching strategy is an area with certain shortcomings in the solution where improvements are required."
"One area for improvement with Akamai could be pricing."
"It would be better if we could be notified about specific attacks."
"With a mixed stack, things become a problem. With GCP and Azure, the DNS setup gets tricky when using CloudFront."
"The solution can benefit from expanding its data center and server locations to multiple places for smoother content delivery with even lower latency. The latency we experience is sufficient for our needs, and we are doing well. However, if they expand their locations in the future, it could be a positive factor. Its competitors have multiple data and server locations."
"The solution could be more simplified for new users. It could be more user-friendly."
"The tool must provide regional control."
"The product could support any network load balancer. At present, we can use only Amazon’s load balancer application."
"They could be expanding the number of locations available. It will help users easily access content."
"Amazon CloudFront is harder to understand compared to Azure."
"The only issues we've faced were when AWS itself had problems, and that's very rare. I can only recall one instance when they had issues, but they managed to resolve it quickly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Quite high in price, but equivalent to other enterprise products on the market"
"From the resource component, it's very costly, and Akamai's charges are also high. So, any organization with a high-tech budget can definitely afford it, but companies with 10-15% of their revenue as a technical budget probably won't be able to. That's where they have a lot of room for improvement if they want to onboard those early users."
"The solution's pricing is based on bandwidth."
"Price-wise, I find Akamai's pricing model's inclination to be more towards the expensive side of the spectrum, though I can't say that it is a very expensive product."
"The solution can be one of the more expensive options, reflecting their established market position."
"This is a very expensive solution but it works well."
"The price of the solution depends upon its usage."
"The price of Akamai could be less expensive."
"The policies and prices keep on changing frequently with AWS solutions"
"The product could improve its price."
"Amazon CloudFront costs less than third-party services."
"Compared to competitors like Azure and Google, we find AWS pricing to be advantageous."
"Amazon CloudFront is an expensive solution."
"I rate Amazon CloudFront's pricing a five out of ten."
"I used to work with AWS and Azure, and we provided cost comparisons for customers to help them choose the right services. Azure tends to be more user-friendly and easier to understand, while AWS may take more time."
"The solution’s price is reasonable."
