For user experience, Akamai Edge DNS should allow notes to be added for each record, as this is something Infoblox supports. Without notes, managing changes in DNS records can be difficult, especially for large companies with over 1,000 records, as they may not know who requested changes without proper documentation. I requested this feature two years ago, but it has not been added yet. Akamai Edge DNS could also improve its AI capabilities.

The scheduled report feature for Infoblox BloxOne Threat Defense needs improvement. The scheduled reports are sent with a standardized template from Infoblox. It would be highly beneficial if we had customization options for the scheduled reports. This is a key feature that many enterprise customers would be seeking, especially when they need to present reports to management. The reports should include pie charts or bar graphs indicating what traffic is coming and going through the system. Those chart types and drill-down details are also essential for the IT team. We need more customized reports that can provide different reports for the management team and for the IT team. The current reports are available but are not as helpful as customers need. We are currently dedicating logs manually and doing this as a service for our customers, but this should be handled by Infoblox BloxOne Threat Defense. Infoblox BloxOne Threat Defense is a bit expensive.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We can maintain control of the configuration, and it seems to be covering the use case that we need."
"I recommend Akamai Edge DNS because it is distributed globally and prevents DDoS attacks."
"It is a very stable solution since it has a security feature that allows you to recover zone files if you accidentally delete them."
"The high availability of Akamai Edge DNS is impressive due to their numerous POPs, which help in supporting all attacks, including DDoS counterattacks."
"I haven't had any problems with the stability of Akamai Edge DNS in the past five years."
"Infoblox BloxOne Threat Defense furthers the existing security posture rather than replacing or trying to replace any existing products."
"Infoblox has helped us improve in the way that we look at data as it comes in and out. We monitor and manage queries from every device that sits inside our company, e.g., every user, every laptop, and every query. When you type something into the web, Infoblox will scan or manage that. If it is going somewhere bad, then it will block them. From a metrics perspective, it gives us data, letting us go back and find those impacted or infected clients to either clean their devices or remove them from the network."
"The dossier feature is perfect for starting an investigation."
"The most important features for us are preventing DDOS DNS attacks."
"Threat Defense has helped protect data from being stolen or lost."
"I would advise others to take the whole DNS Firewall subscription because it will add value to their solution."
"Using the reporting, we can tell that we have gained an extra layer of protection. Just by looking at it, we can see what is being blocked before it even makes it to the firewall. It is definitely working."
"In general, we have benefitted from this product because it's allowed us to more rapidly identify and respond to potential issues that our other security tools haven't discovered, or discovered later."

Cons

"Akamai Edge DNS is expensive, and the pricing is higher compared to Infoblox."
"The only area that needs improvement is the pricing for DNS zones. The price is higher than competitors, and Akamai should offer a better pricing model."
"CNAME flattening is a feature that Akamai does not support."
"The solution has a fairly complex setup with our cloud vendors, including Microsoft, Salesforce, and Oracle."
"This is not just Infoblox, this could be any portal provider, cloud provider, sometimes they change the look of the customer-facing options and it's not completely clear why they make the change."
"Endpoint solutions need to be improved."
"The onboarding is a little rough at times, and you need to have some information at hand. It is pretty good, but it would be useful to have a few good examples to set up things like data exfiltration."
"I have faced quite a few problems in my eight months of experience with the product in GTS, despite it being a relatively short period."
"The integration of threat intelligence with other solutions is challenging. If I want to expose threat intelligence, I cannot do it via taxi services. I have to call the API, but the customers are not into creating the APIs. The integration of embedded threat intelligence with other platforms should be better. Infoblox should work on this, and it should be easier for the end user to integrate it. It is very easy to deploy this solution. We should be able to integrate it with other platforms, such as the Next-Generation Firewall, with the same ease."
"The research side and the reporting side need improvement. Both of those are items on the menu. They could use a little bit of cleanup to make their respective information more easily understood."
"The research side and the reporting side need improvement."
"The policy in Infoblox BloxOne Threat Defense is something complex; that needs to be simpler because it's difficult for someone without a high skill level to understand."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Since Akamai is the industry leader, I imagine the solution would be a little more expensive than some other vendors."
"Infoblox BloxOne offers pretty good documentation. Check its documentation, then do a PoC. Infoblox is very good at providing PoCs."
"It is a very expensive system. You need to go over the licensing before purchase to make sure you're getting what is needed, not anything extra."
"It's a pricey solution because it's for the advanced kind of customer."
"If you only wanted the DNS filtering and none of the other products built into Threat Defense, it would be nicer if they could do that a la carte since we are not really using a lot of the solution."
"There is a significant charge for this product but I think that it's worth it when we look at what it's able to prevent."
"The licensing is set up such that you pay for the number of active users that you're defending at the moment."
"When you buy the subscription, there are no additional costs to add any additional buttons."
