Helps reduce costs and enables the creation of new non-production databases
We use the solution on our non-production database. We use it to spin up non-production environments using Oracle The product helps to create new non-production databases. The solution helps reduce costs. The product must provide AI features. Google has stopped supporting the on-premise version…

Offers near-real-time replication for data consistency and continuously introducing new features through upgrades
There are various advantages. First of all, easy to deploy. The only difficult part is the cost factor, licensing. In other ways, the implementation is very, very important. Like, we have not encountered any major challenges with replication. We were able to achieve near-real-time replication. Also, with the switchover failover, we were not getting any technical issues. It's a pretty stable product. Once you configure it, it goes through the rollback, and then Data Guard introduces this snapshot thing. So once the restoration happens, we can go back to the original thing, and we make that a standard. It's a pretty decent and key function for Oracle. So, enterprise organizations go for Oracle only for features like these.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Actifio was very stable. Whenever they identified bugs, they would promptly provide us with patches."
"They will assist me in achieving whatever budget issue the client may be having."
"Very user-friendly and the QSA is very good."
"The solution helps reduce costs."
"This product has unique capabilities that lead the product category in test data management, cloning and recovery."
"Very user-friendly and the QSA is very good."
"The solution is really very stable. One good thing about it, compared to other products, is that you can just run it and forget about it. Unless you come across some interruptions in the network, it works like a charm."
"With Data Guard, Oracle guarantees zero data loss, providing peace of mind for organizations relying on their data for critical operations."
"Snapshot and Data Guard Manager are awesome features."
"If you have a problem with your primary site and can't access your primary database, you can continue working with the database that you have as standby on the other site, by changing its role to primary."
"We chose this solution for the availability of the databases. We can't afford Oracle Grid, this is the best solution if you want something similar that's less expensive."
"The solution is quite stable. We haven't experienced any bugs, glitches, or crashes. We find it to be quite reliable."
"The most valuable aspect for me is undoubtedly the failover capability and the assurance of data safety provided by Oracle Data Guard."
"It is a top-notch product, super stable, making it our go-to for internal operations."

Cons

"While the product does support various databases, the company needs to make more of an effort to support N-minus-one compatibility."
"Google has stopped supporting the on-premise version of the tool."
"The initial setup is complex."
"Areas that need improvement would be the support for recovery in the physical environment."
"Lacks the option to price backup costs within the solution itself."
"The solution doesn't support AIX software or in-cloud, and we have a lot of servers running on AIX and Oracle."
"A significant improvement for Oracle Data Guard would be enabling the disaster recovery site to handle read and write operations, not just data storage."
"The product could improve its pricing."
"The initial setup is complex."
"The only difficult part is the cost factor, licensing. Another area of improvement is support."
"Oracle could be improved by the ability to manage it on the cloud. This on-premises version is secure and reliable, but I'm sure that they will soon provide a cloud solution that will be even better. In one to two years, we will probably move to the cloud—we have already moved to the cloud with Microsoft Exchange, but our databases are still on-premises. I would prefer managing a cloud version of Oracle."
"There is an issue with their application on ODG. There were a lot of edits in the logs. Sometimes, we only get a little cue from the Data Guard Broker logs if there's an issue."
"Oracle Data Guard is stable, but you need to keep monitoring the system all the time. You need to keep monitoring the archives."
"When the data replicates into the standby database there is a possibility of having a microsecond amount of data loss. The data loss occurs when there is a network disconnection between the primary and secondary standby database located in the data centers or if there is a crash in the primary database."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is on a case by case basis."
"Support is very good. They send out a VM link and help you fix any issues."
"Actifio is cheaper than other tools."
"This is the best solution if you want something similar that's less expensive than Oracle Grid."
"The pricing is on the higher side."
"If you want to have everything automated and done smoothly, you have to add additional licenses."
"The licensing cost is significantly high."
"The cost of the Oracle license will depend on the negotiations with Oracle."
"The cost is expensive."
"Oracle Data Guard is a feature available only in Oracle Database Enterprise Edition, and is available for extra cost."
"It's a cost-effective solution."
