What is most valuable?
The advantage of choosing Cornerstone HR Suite is that if a company does not have an existing tool and plans to adopt automation, then there is a chance to gain from implementing this solution.
What needs improvement?
The solution's interface is really, really old and requires improvements. Furthermore, integrations with other systems and tools that a company may be using, including calendars, email templates, and phone support, are necessary.
Cornerstone should consider evaluating the technology they use for their product since it seems outdated to me. However, I am not a technical expert, so I cannot say. Cornerstone should use newer technologies to improve its UI, UX, and content.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Cornerstone HR Suite in our company for two years. Also, I don't remember the version I am using. I am just a customer who is using the product in my company.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I highly suspect whether Cornerstone HR Suite is a scalable product. Around 400 people in my company use the solution.
How are customer service and support?
I am not the right person who can comment on the solution's technical support team. The administrator takes care of the communication part with the technical support team.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before implementing Cornerstone HR Suite, our offices in each country where we operate used to have their own software or were using Excel, which is a common practice. Then, we decided to standardize and use one product throughout the entire organization in all the countries. We chose it based on the recommendations of some researchers who claimed that Cornerstone seemed to be a promising product. As someone who is knowledgeable in HCM, I believe that rather than having sophisticated products for each stage of an employee's life cycle, starting from the use of ATS to termination or separation, it would be better to have one comprehensive solution. However, later on, I realized that most of the HCM solutions have some problems. The market trend is that companies start with one specific module and then expand into other areas based on client needs. For example, Cornerstone started with learning and added other modules such as performance, career, core HR, and reporting. However, they have not been able to master all areas. If I had to buy a solution for another company, I would prefer a product-by-product approach rather than an HCM solution.
How was the initial setup?
We began implementing the tool in our company approximately two years ago. However, I am dissatisfied with the way the implementation process was carried out.
Though I am sure that the solution's deployment was done on the cloud, I am unsure whether it was done on a public or private cloud.
For the deployment and maintenance of the solution, we have one person in our company who acts as the main administrator. In each country where we operate, we have a person or two who are in touch with the main administrator. So, the total number of people adds up to four.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The product can be considered as not being on the high-end side of the price spectrum, as many other products are much more expensive. However, it cannot be said that it is cheap either.
Since it has already been two years since we have been trying to implement it, and to date, we don't see any tangible results from Cornerstone. So, I would rather say we have paid a lot of money for it.
Our company has a five-year contract with Cornerstone; each year, we pay 60,000 dollars. When we had some issues during the implementation phase, Cornerstone asked us to pay 200 or 300 dollars.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
After evaluating HCM solutions, I can say that many of Cornerstone's competitors, or HCM providers in general, cannot provide a trial period that is fully configured to a client's specific needs. During the sales process, they may show a dummy product that is not used in real life, allowing for easy customization, but when it comes to actual implementation, issues arise. Our initial trial with Cornerstone failed because we started with the most complicated module, the ATS, which required extensive configuration. Nobody from Cornerstone advised us that we were approaching it the wrong way. Additionally, Cornerstone requires significant work on the client side, and the client needs a large team to handle implementation and configuration. This was not expected and not a good experience. When you are not an expert in something, and 70% of the work falls on your shoulders, it can be a challenging and frustrating experience.
What other advice do I have?
Once we started using Cornerstone, we realized that the claims made by their sales team were not entirely accurate. While they responded positively to all of our questions during the sales process, we found that many features were either hard-coded and could not be customized or Cornerstone could not provide the solution. This has been frustrating for us. When we attempt to use their ATS functionality, we are unable to integrate it with any type of calendar. The purpose of using software is to digitize certain processes, but with this solution, we still have to rely on manual work, especially when sending invitations to candidates for interviews. The second issue we face is with writing comments. During the product demo, the system appeared to be highly flexible, but after purchasing and using it, we discovered that it was not as flexible as we thought. Furthermore, the Cornerstone HR Suite is outdated when compared to other ATS and HCM systems like Greenhouse and BambooHR.
If I had known the tool's inflexibility, I would have opted for a more modern product. However, I understand that Cornerstone HR Suite will likely remain in use for a long time, despite its lack of effort to improve its interface or flexibility.
I would tell those planning to use the solution that they should refrain from using it since it is not a flexible product.
Currently, many other tools in the market require much less configuration to operate than Cornerstone. When I tried to create a library for colleges with Cornerstone, it was disappointing to find out that the policies that needed to be read and the effort that people had to put in to find them required a lot of tedious steps. I should have been able to drag and drop the policies and state that one just needs to sign it when finished. Instead, I had to create a curriculum and place it elsewhere, which made the process more cumbersome. It is not a user-friendly tool at all.
Overall, I rate the product a four out of ten.
