What are enterprise tech professionals saying about Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS in 2022?
In this review face-off between two dominant players in the PaaS cloud market, users share their favorite features and benefits found in these tools.
Microsoft Azure: What Users Love
A Principal Consultant at a computer software company names key benefits that Microsoft Azure provides:
“Azure gives us a different form of PaaS to work with during our migration and helps us to meet multiple requirements that current solutions do not provide in any one product. One of the most valuable things about Azure, I think, is that it is pretty straightforward. There are well-defined processes and it is not a bad product to work with.” He also mentions "It is a flexible solution that is straightforward to use."
Another PeerSpot reviewer, Priteesh S., Assistant Manager at a computer software company, says Microsoft Azure is an “Optimized cloud solution with reliable recovery and fail services.”
Microsoft Azure: What Could Be Improved
A Business Development Executive/Managing Partner at a tech services company mentions that while Microsoft Azure is a very reliable IaaS and DaaS, it is quite complicated inside: “Microsoft Azure is so complicated inside. If you should do something internally, if you have to configure something, the opinion about Azure is that it is a little complicated inside. That's why the end users and clients are looking for help and why we help them configure and do anything inside of Azure. That is why we offer other tools to optimize the Azure environment."
Marco C., Ing. at Wolters Kluwer, gives his opinion on what should be improved, saying, "The solution should improve the shared cache. For the shared cache, Microsoft uses RADIUS third-party services. We have a lot of trouble with RADIUS and I suppose that is due to the fact that it is not owned completely by Microsoft."
Amazon AWS: What Users Love
Greg G., Chief Executive Officer at a tech services company, discusses how both he and his customers benefit from Amazon AWS:
The solution is “flexible, scales well, and offers good stability. Customers can use it for the web-based management of the product.” He also adds which features he finds helpful, stating, “We use the AI/ML Sagemaker to help us build models. We use several feature services on AWS, including Lambda, S3 database, RDS database, Alexa Voice Services and Cognito Gateway. They are all excellent in terms of offering great functionality. They're pretty good about taking customer feedback and are generally able to productize the requested feature.” In addition, he mentions that “The initial setup is straightforward, especially if using Lightsail to start. The stability is good with a large number of Availability Zones WW. Technical support is helpful and responsive but you must pay for a tiered support plan to ensure response.”
Erik N., AWS Certified Solutions Architect y Cloud Application Developer at Honne Services, shares, “The AWS feature that I most enjoy is Lambda functions. I primarily use serverless components because they allow you to process things without having to compromise on resources like when running EC2 instances or virtual machines. With minimal effort, you can scale up an unlimited number of processes, even concurrently, to process things. I frequently work with web APIs, so I use Lambda a lot in this area."
Amazon AWS: What Could Be Improved
A Lead Architect - Expert Enterprise Data Solutions at a financial services firm says that the solution has “Good storage and a good API gateway but needs a metadata framework.”
Another PeerSpot reviewer, a Manager of Technology at a computer software company, comments, "IAM only gives you one chance to capture your key."
And a Director of Platform and Information Security at a computer software company suggests that "They should really consolidate and make things simpler rather than offer you hundreds of random options. The way everything is arranged really forces users to figure out everything on their own and then, on top of that, to calculate the total costs. There's an infinite number of combinations even just with cost calculations. It's just too much."
