Centralized planning has improved resource visibility and supports data‑driven financial decisions
The best features Planview Portfolios offers are visibility enhancement, robust system performance, and comprehensive resource management. This enhanced visibility in Planview Portfolios ensures that all users can easily track progress, identify bottlenecks, and make informed decisions to optimize workflow efficiency. When discussing robust system performance, the system's robust performance in meeting our various work requirements effectively and efficiently stands out. It is very stable and reliable, contributing to a seamless user experience, which enables users to focus on their tasks without disruptions. I also love the financial breakdown, planning and prioritization, and attribute collection on projects in Planview Portfolios. Planview Portfolios has positively impacted my organization since I started using it. It has enabled me to gain insights into the full scope of work consuming resources. I am able to know where the resources are being consumed more, especially which resources are consuming the most. I have been able to leverage resources management and resource time reporting, which enabled the generation of $90 million in annual revenue through labor billing to customers.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The flexibility allows it to become more self-service, and we can on-board users that do not have an IT or enterprise role, but more like an add-on list or even a business user."
"Planview Portfolios helped me generate $90 million in annual revenue through better resource allocation and accurate billing."
"It has been effective for our delivery. It's given us much better visibility into what is being delivered and when."
"We are able to take up the right work and invest in the highest value ideas."
"This is giving us huge flexibility to accommodate the company's needs."
"We've brought our portfolio altogether. We have had multiple ways of reporting out what our portfolio is, whether it's in Excel, Word, or in different places. We brought all of our projects together in one place. That has worked out well for us. We've been able to manage the work on Gantt charts and our resources better. The big thing for us on research and development is around managing people's time, on which projects they are working on, and how much effort does it take to launch our projects."
"Planview has helped connect funding and strategic outcomes with work execution."
"The biggest impact of using Planview in our company is visibility to everything that is being worked on."
"Real-time collaboration, invoice generation, task delegation, and file management features have become valuable features for our organization."
"The primary uses for this tool are task delegation, generating reports, and on-time invoices."
"It increased productivity and timely delivery of projects within a set budget."

Cons

"My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing reveals that the cost is a bit not affordable for a small organization, but for medium and large enterprises, I would say it is very cost-effective and affordable."
"Our version is definitely set up a bit more waterfall world. It would be better if some of the agile features were more in the standard product."
"We have almost like a third-party group who has to do a lot of our configurations. It's a bit painful for us anytime we want to make a change."
"I would suggest for the request module that they open up the fields and columns so it's like we are doing our work in the work module. You can't do that with today. We also have to make sure that the fields can go both ways with the request and work modules. Including fields in the column sets would be helpful, because today they only use attributes."
"It would be great to see Planview incorporate agile interfacing/methods in it. Like CA Clarity and other leading PPM tools – Planview should enhance or develop the interfaces to ingrate with other market leading Agile tools."
"One big issue we have been having during our annual planning is that only the creator of a portfolio can edit it. This means that only the creator of a portfolio can edit which projects are included or excluded in it."
"We had issues with the data rephrasing."
"When it comes to reporting there are some challenges with integration."
"The timely reminders could be reduced from one mail a day to three mails in a week. This tends to fill up our inboxes a lot."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our licensing costs are probably $150,000 to $180,000 a year with 270 licenses total."
"The licensing part is a bit costly in comparison with the other available PPM tools."
"We overbought our licenses. We looked at our needs three to four years down the road and tried based our contract on that. However, we were over aggressive. We use about a third of the licenses that we have. We're looking to adjust the makeup so we can start utilizing the amount of money that we are spending. Right now, we're overspending, and my organization is not seeing the value in Planview because we are paying so much for licenses that we're not using."
"When we went through that process, I believe it is competitive with others on the market. However, there are less expensive options available. It's a more premium offering at a higher price."
"Our licensing costs are about a quarter of a million dollars per year."
"Our licensing fees are approximately $50,000 USD annually."
"I think all in we are at $33,000 a year and that includes Projectplace and Planview. We used to have the integration to JIRA, but we don't pay for that anymore."
"I don't know about the actual pricing. I have not come across any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
