PALANTIR DATA ENGINEER at a healthcare company with 10,001+ employees
Unified healthcare pipelines have improved data trust and accelerated operational decisions
One challenge regarding how Palantir Foundry can be improved is the learning curve. Foundry has a very broad ecosystem with Ontology, Pipeline Builder, Code Repositories, and AI integrations. For new engineers or business users onboarding, it can take time, especially if they are coming from more traditional data platforms. Better documentation, simplified onboarding paths, and more beginner-friendly examples would help accelerate adoption. Another area is debugging complexity. While lineage and monitoring are strong features, troubleshooting deeply interconnected pipelines can still become difficult in a large enterprise environment. Sometimes error logs and pipeline failure messages could be more descriptive or developer-friendly, especially for distributed PySpark jobs. Another pain point is customization limitations in certain UI-driven components. While low-code tools are great for rapid development, highly customized workflows sometimes still require engineering workarounds or deeper technical implementation. The platform is extremely capable, but improvements around usability, debugging experience, DevOps flexibility, and ecosystem openness would make it even more effective for enterprise engineering teams.

Data governance has improved and complex integrations are handled with flexible customization
Regarding Talend Data Fabric, the ease of use and the customization options that are available are particularly valuable. There are a lot of built-in components and features that we can modify in any way we want to transform the data and make it analytics ready. Talend Data Catalog is another product that, when combined with Talend Data Fabric, can be used for the data governance. The stewardship, ownership, and curation happen mainly from the Data Catalog side. Within Talend Data Fabric, the role-based access control is used for user segregations such as security, infrastructure-related or integration-related activities. It bifurcates the roles and responsibilities. From the data standpoint, the RBAC functions with the help of Data Catalog.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"The strength of Palantir Foundry is that there are no limitations, it is well organized, and the data is very secure."
"Palantir Foundry has improved with the generation of AI, and I think the governance and security are both good things to have in Palantir Foundry."
"Palantir Foundry is the future of development because it embeds multiple AI models, and the AI enabling feature is very fast and easy."
"Palantir Foundry has dramatically helped us in terms of project costing because earlier we had our own React developers team from offshore, and now with the AIP capabilities launched on the platform, we have completely avoided the need for a dedicated team, which has been very helpful in terms of cost management and reducing team size."
"The security is also excellent. It's highly granular, so the admins have a high degree of control, and there are many levels of security. That worked well. You won't have an EDC unless you put everything onto the platform because it is its own isolated thing."
"The AI engine that comes with Palantir Foundry is quite interesting."
"Palantir Foundry makes data reporting easier and reduces time in data gathering and reporting, where what would usually take about a day and a half of data gathering and reporting I have ultimately reduced to about 20 minutes."
"Palantir Foundry has positively impacted our organization by making our processes straightforward and fast-moving, especially with features like AIP, an AI-powered assistance, and the low-code ability to create transformations quickly, which has benefited me significantly."
"We've had no issues with the stability so far."
"Talend has very good support for big data."
"What I find most valuable about this solution is the 900 connectors because it allows me to integrate any tool and any cloud system I need to integrate and they have a connector out of the box."
"From my experience around Business Intelligence for data and analytics for around twenty-something years, I can say that what I appreciate about Talend Data Fabric is that we can connect sources to everything and be able to customize everything."
"The initial setup is very easy."
"Talend can be used for multi-cloud purposes, allowing users to orchestrate data across various cloud platforms without purchasing AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, or similar cloud-specific tools."
"The Talend data integration has been one of the most valuable features."
"It is a smart tool for us to design data pipelines. It lets us populate our three data lake instances. We like this solution for its connection capabilities, since it is very important to be able to use many different types of software. We tested a lot of SAP sources successfully, including cloud sources with SAP. It is also very easy to anonymize data with TIBCO, as well as populating HDFS files, packet files, and raw files. It is very easy to do that with Talend Data Fabric."

Cons

"I want to pass the certification of Palantir Foundry because it is not easy to find the information regarding this certification, making it not accessible for many people, which I think is not good."
"There are some issues with scalability because when we are using a really large dataset, the system is rather slow."
"However, Palantir Foundry's license fees comparative to others are quite high."
"As a developer, I find the limited documentation and less resource availability restrictive compared to other options such as AWS."
"However, I observe a potential drawback concerning market trends; as software becomes more accessible with individuals developing applications independently, there is a risk posed to Palantir Foundry, which combines multiple core functionalities."
"One way Palantir Foundry can be improved is by addressing issues with back-end changes. There were cases where changes made to Palantir Foundry would cause failures across all platforms."
"Palantir Foundry could be improved by addressing the need for some coding in the Workshop since we cannot expect 100% no-code functionality, especially when dealing with dynamic user input, which requires writing functions in the Code Repository."
"There is not a wide user base for the solution's online documentation so it is sometimes difficult to find answers."
"The downside, however, is indeed the pricing, which has been the biggest challenge; since it went to Click, there is no longer a free license version such as Talend Open Studio, so either you pay or you do not have anything."
"I would like to see better integration with other tools."
"Talend's architecture is complex to configure, especially due to the various components involved. It requires a more intricate setup."
"Deployment can be difficult, but I didn't test the latest version yet."
"We are currently using version 7.3.1, but preferred the version before. The problem that we currently have is that Talend are releasing patches for Talend Studio every quarter. Our technical team has to be on top of these patches and constantly ensure everything is updated."
"The support is not very good. The team is not well-trained, and resolving a ticket can require several discussions."
"I would like to see better integration with other tools because every tool waiting for approval in terms of leveraging machine learning takes a long time."
"We encounter issues getting email notifications. They should provide enough information about the configuration process for email components."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's expensive."
"Palantir Foundry is an expensive solution."
"Palantir Foundry has different pricing models that can be negotiated."
"The solution’s pricing is high."
"There are no additional licensing fees when you scale"
"There are multiple subscriptions available with Talend, each with its own scope. Subscriptions depend on the number of users you have and how many remote engines you want to install."
