Monitoring has improved bandwidth insights and application diagnosis but setup and costs still need work
They need room for improvement about the spare parts. There are shortages in Egypt in their stock. We tried to make RMA for specific parts, and it took a long time. Comparing this to a vendor like Cisco, who provides any component next business day, NETSCOUT nGeniusONE took a long time. This needs more improvement. I believe it is expensive. They need to reduce its budget a little bit. Comparing to other solutions, it is very expensive.

Based on my experience, there should be options for using the latest communication methods, like social media integration. Telegram is already integrated, but SMS and other alert options would be beneficial. So, integrating social media notifications into NetXMS would be a good thing. As a large company, we integrate different systems together. We'd like to see some improved functionalities for enhanced integration. For example, our incident management system isn't currently integrated with NetXMS. Ideally, we'd like the alerts generated in the monitoring system to automatically create tickets in our ticketing system, similar to how some other systems function. NetXMS doesn't offer this functionality itself because they are not an incident management or ticketing system vendor. They allow integration with other vendors, but our ticketing system isn't currently supported. So they recommend using it with any other application of our choice.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We use it for monitoring whenever we update a new circuit or site."
"For common issues, we have seen a measurable decrease in mean time to know (MTTK) and mean time to repair (MTTR), cutting troubleshoot time on many issues from days to hours (or less) and helping increase our application and network uptime."
"We have a good relationship with NETSCOUT, and it's reflected in the communication and the service that we see from them."
"NGeniusONE provides us with increased visibility while conducting a deployment."
"If a lot of traffic from one site is hitting AWS Cloud or the data center, then we want to know which client is utilizing the most bandwidth. We will work with nGeniusONE to troubleshoot the issue."
"The packet-based searching capability of NETSCOUT is highly valued as it allows us to better analyze the network."
"The generation of KPI-like information that feeds to the nGeniusONE (management) server is the most valuable feature."
"It's an easy product to set up."
"We have a large network spanning over 1000 kilometers. NetXMS provides visibility and sends alerts. Typically, most monitoring systems monitor every 60 seconds, but NetXMS allows us to adjust this. For critical links, we can set it to check every second. For our high-priority financial customers, we monitor every second. So, every three seconds, we receive another email and a Telegram alert. This helps us meet our SLAs (Service Level Agreements) with our high-priority customers."

Cons

"In terms of additional features, I would like to see better event notification. Right now, we put in an email address to receive an alert and it receives every event and every alert that comes out. We need something a little more granular."
"We would like more encryption of customer data, because we have a very security conscious company. We have a lot of regulation coming in which requires us to make customer data private."
"It's not able to communicate with our probes."
"The solution could do more for security. It should offer more security-related features."
"On a network the size of ours, the loading times seem a little extensive, 20 or 30 seconds to load up some graphs."
"The NetFlow Collectors could handle more flows per minute."
"The price is really high, making it difficult for many financial companies to purchase immediately; it will take time for them to afford any budget for the purchase."
"Between the host analysis and session analysis, there is a limitation of one hour. This can hinder us if a situation occurred ten hours ago."
"Based on my experience, there should be options for using the latest communication methods, like social media integration. Telegram is already integrated, but SMS and other alert options would be beneficial. So, integrating social media notifications into NetXMS would be a good thing."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If you are able and you are willing to use everything that Netscout provides to you, it's probably a relatively fair price. The problem is that it's such a large and such a complex tool that I'm not sure that many companies would be able to use it entirely, the way it's expected to be used."
"The price is only for acquisition; it's not a licence."
"The scalability becomes very expensive quickly."
"The license becomes cost prohibitive very quickly."
"This solution has saved us more than $50,000 a month and freed up 30 percent of our bandwidth."
"Like any company, we always want better pricing. The pricing is okay, but it's not a cheap solution. When you want to deploy it across an enterprise as large as ours, you go into seven figures. It's not a cheap solution to get out there."
"It can be expensive, but if you have a good configuration, based on what you are looking for, it's okay, it's manageable."
"The tool's price is okay. On a scale of one to ten, I rate it as a five, where one means it is not expensive, and ten means it is the most expensive."
"Since it's open-source, there are obviously no licensing fees. There are additional operational costs, like the cost of hosting it somewhere."
