We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is the UEBA. It's very easy for a security operations analyst. It has a one-touch analysis where you can search for a particular entity, and you can get a complete overview of that entity or user.""It has a lot of great features.""It is quite efficient. It helps our clients in identifying their security issues and respond quickly. Our clients want to automate incident response and all those things.""We’ve got process improvement that's happened across multiple different fronts within the organization, within our IT organization based on this tool being in place.""The most valuable feature is the performance because unlike legacy SIEMs that were on-premises, it does not require as much maintenance.""Log aggregation and data connectors are the most valuable features.""It is always correlating to IOCs for normal attacks, using Azure-related resources. For example, if any illegitimate IP starts unusual activity on our Azure firewall, then it automatically generates an alarm for us.""Another area where it is helping us is in creating a single dashboard for our environment. We can collect all the logs into a log analytics workset and run queries on top of it. We get all the results in the dashboard. Even a layman can understand this stuff. The way Microsoft presents it is really incredible."

"You can have all of the logs from servers to network and it gets sent out to the correct owners. This is very helpful.""The most valuable feature is that this solution is more secure than others, and there are more applications and features as well.""The deployment is quite simple and pretty straightforward.""The solution could be improved by including XDR, remediation and Sandbox.""The reports that you can run are really nice.""The Sharecon feature is the most valuable.""It basically helps us. We have to stay in compliance with certain issues with some of our customers. We have to have these types of tools in place for protecting our network and our data. We're in the aerospace industry, so we have a lot of defense contracts. So, all those guys will make sure that we're protecting their information, and it does a good job in that aspect.""The most valuable features for us are the application logs monitoring and the dashboard, which provides a single-pane view of all the ongoing activities."

"The best thing about Snare is its format and consistency.""The most valuable feature of Snare is flexibility or the ability to filter all things you don't want and don't have security value.""Snare has good agents, especially for Windows."

Cons
"We have been working with multiple customers, and every time we onboard a customer, we are missing an essential feature that surprisingly doesn't exist in Sentinel. We searched the forums and knowledge bases but couldn't find a solution. When you onboard new customers, you need to enable the data connectors. That part is easy, but you must create rules from scratch for every associated connector. You click "next," "next," "next," and it requires five clicks for each analytical rule. Imagine we have a customer with 150 rules.""The solution could be more user-friendly; some query languages are required to operate it.""Multi-tenancy, in my opinion, needs to be improved. I believe it can do better as a managed service provider.""The interface could be more user-friendly. It''s a small improvement that they could make if they wanted to.""At the network level, there is a limitation in integrating some of the switches or routers with Microsoft Sentinel. Currently, SPAN traffic monitoring is not available in Microsoft Sentinel. I have heard that it is available in Defender for Identity, which is a different product. It would be good if LAN traffic monitoring or SPAN traffic monitoring is available in Microsoft Sentinel. It would add a lot of value. It is available in some of the competitor products in the market.""Sometimes, it is hard for us to estimate the costs of Microsoft Sentinel.""They only classify alerts into three categories: high, medium, and low. So, from the user's point of view, having another critical category would be awesome.""Add more out-of-the-box connectors with other SaaS platforms/applications."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"Most times log sheets are not assigned well.""There is room for improvement, especially in the reporting aspect. The reports are not as good as those in Splunk.""It is not expensive compared to other solutions.""It takes a little bit of time for Log360 to actually learn your environment.""On the logging system, there's a local on-client side that is encrypted, and there's one that is not encrypted. It is only for diagnostical purposes. However, both being encrypted would be very valuable for some audits.""The integration with SharePoint and Teams should be improved.""The solution needs to improve hub storage. It should integrate AI and ML capabilities.""It's difficult to find which conditions have been applied to a report because they are provided by default by ManageEngine. However, with other SIEMs if you want to create a report, they provide details, like which conditions are triggering certain reports. This needs to be there in ManageEngine. It would be good to know which parameter has been applied to the report that is updating the system."

More ManageEngine Log360 Cons →

"Snare should modernize its GUI a little bit.""The solution is now developing a SIEM-like feature on Snare Central Server, but it's not complete yet.""Users will initially find it difficult to identify the event types and installation in Snare."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "There is a cost for each feature used."
  • "Its pricing is definitely huge compared to some of the other SIEMs. Its price should be improved."
  • "My client has a yearly license. I think the cost is not expensive compared to that of other SIEMs, given the service it is providing."
  • "ManageEngine Log360 is expensive compared to other products."
  • "Affordable pricing is provided by the solution."

  • "Snare has reasonable pricing."
  • "On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive, I rate Snare's pricing a four out of ten."
  • "Snare is a cheap solution because a lot of customers are using it."

Snare customers consistently tell us that as the financial and reputational consequences of data breaches, cyber threats like malware and ransomware and the constant risks from insider threats increase that they have urgent and ongoing requirements for maintaining regulatory compliance, auditing and managing cyber threat detection and response. They also tell us that existing solutions like SIEM are often complex to implement and maintain, require specialised technical resources or are increasingly unaffordable or variable in their pricing. As a result of these increased requirements Prophecy International has created the Snare product suite.

Compliance requirements can include any number of regulatory mandates including PCI-DSS, Sarbanes Oxley, HIPAA, NERC, GDPR and more. This makes Snare a high value solution for companies in the Government, Defence and Military sectors, Banking, Finance and Insurance, Retail, Health, Energy, Oil & Gas markets.
