The solution reduced our operational expenditures and is able to identify points before we even noticed them
The management interface seems to be designed for high-resolution screens. Somebody with a smaller-resolution screen might not like the web interface. I run a 4K monitor on it, so everything fits on the screen. With a lower resolution like 1080, you need to scroll a lot. Everything is in smaller windows. It doesn't seem to be designed for smaller screens. When I change the resolution to 1080, I only see half of what I would on my big 4K monitor. It would be annoying to have to scroll to see the flow chart. They have a flow chart that goes top to bottom like a tree. On a lower resolution, it might be nice if that scrolls horizontally because it's long, narrow, and tall. It's only three icons wide, but it's 15 icons tall. I think it would be helpful to have the ability to change that for a smaller screen and customize the widget.

Migration projects have become faster and have saved significant time on complex workloads
OpenText Migrate is our primary tool. I know they have a lot of other products like DNS and tools from cybersecurity, but we don't use it at this time. On Demand Recovery, for recovery, we use another tool from OpenText. It's C2C. It's a product to back up the mailbox. I don't know what I can find at this time. So maybe yes, but the last time I used it was a few months ago. It does the job, so I don't have an opinion on this currently. They don't have a lot of marketing actions. We know this product because we are an OpenText partner for the C2C. But it's another division. It's another part of the company. So we don't have a lot of information. So, I think they can improve the communication for the end-user because a lot of customers do not know OpenText, and they don't know they can provide this type of tool. My overall rating for this product is 9.

Pros

"Helps us get the most out of the hardware we have in place."
"The Turbonomic solution works/performs as advertised and automatically removes a large workload in the day to day care of my virtual environment."
"Overall, Turbonomic has had a positive effect on our application performance, helping on many different levels, including toward the resolution of problems and even flat out preventing problems from happening in the first place."
"Turbonomic, per its design, finds bottlenecks and, depending on how it is configured, recommends actions and takes action to resolve the bottlenecks."
"We have used the planning feature to retire ESXi hosts and move hosts from one datacenter to another."
"Overall, from our organization's standpoint, the solution has helped to build our entire migration effort."
"Turbonomic is a great tool that seeks to optimize your IT environment."
"It is a good third-party migration tool because it can be used with clients who have heterogeneous environments."
"Carbonite Migrate works well in Windows platform migrations and in the case of a VML platform. The migration is smooth in Windows environments."
"The solution is user-friendly."
"OpenText Migrate is a very good product because it is an older product and they have a lot of tools, and they have a lot of experience on the migration tools."
"Carbonite Migrate is helpful on an infrastructure level."

Cons

"GUI is ugly."
"The GUI is not always user friendly and some settings are not where you would expect."
"Waiting for the HTML5 GUI since flash has refresh issues."
"I would like to see the interface move to HTML5, but I am told that is in the works."
"I like the detail I get in the old user interface and will miss some of that in the new interface when we perform our planned upgrade soon."
"We wish Nimble was available as a storage provider."
"The interface could be a little cleaner and navigation a little easier."
"The only area of improvement that I can think of is re-sizing recommendations are not able to be based upon working hours of a day or typical load times."
"If we had to move 100 applications across a multi-cloud environment, then this solution would not work."
"The pricing for the customer is always too expensive."
"Migration in RHEL and Linux environments can be improved. During RHEL migration with multiple data areas, you have to create a similar source environment at the destination. This can be challenging because you have to install it, create the VM, install over it, and mount it at the mount point. Only then can you do the migration."
"We find it very difficult to use these tools in a multi-cloud environment"
"Migration in RHEL and Linux environments can be improved."
"Carbonite failed when moving GIS data."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I don't know the current prices, but I like how the licensing is based on the number of instances instead of sockets, clusters, or cores. We have some VMs that are so heavy I can only fit four on one server. It's not cost-effective if we have to pay more for those. When I move around a VM SQL box with 30 cores and a half-terabyte of RAM, I'm not paying for an entire socket and cores where people assume you have at least 10 or 20 VMs on that socket for that pricing."
"In the last year, Turbonomic has reduced our cloud costs by $94,000."
"It is an endpoint type license, which is fine. It is not overly expensive."
"When we have expanded our licensing, it has always been easy to make an ROI-based decision. So, it's reasonably priced. We would like to have it cheaper, but we get more benefit from it than we pay for it. At the end of the day, that's all you can hope for."
"Contact the Turbonomic sales team, explain your needs and what you're looking to monitor. They will get a pre-sales SE on the phone and together work up a very accurate quote."
"IBM Turbonomic is an investment that we believe will deliver positive returns."
"Price is a big one. VMTurbo was very competitively priced."
"I have not seen Turbonomic's new pricing since IBM purchased it. When we were looking at it in my previous company before IBM's purchase, it was compatible with other tools."
"In terms of pricing, I think it's an expensive tool."
"The licensing costs are really high."
