Maximized storage capacity and minimized costs and an easy setup
Most of our client base is between fifty to five hundred end users. We occasionally recommend high-end HPE products for larger clients needing performance and reliability. Our clients predominantly use HPE StoreOnce for small business purposes in industries like dairy and finance Our clients have…

Saves us a lot of time, and the administration is simpler
NetApp's Integration with AWS has helped us because we had a tough time transferring data when we used an ONTAP competitor as our storage partner. They don't have integration with AWS tools, so we had to figure it out on our own. ONTAP has built-in integration and allows us to replicate a copy to our second data center. Everything is in one channel. It's possible without the technology, but it's more time-consuming. NetApp saves us a lot of time, and the administration is simpler.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a very scalable solution."
"Recovery is important."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is that the tool provides good value for somebody who needs an affordable and reliable storage solution."
"The implementation is straightforward."
"The important feature is compression and duplication. It has a good compression ratio and is very stable."
"The initial setup is simple."
"HPE StoreOnce has high performance."
"It results in more efficient storage utilization, cutting capital expenditure in half."
"The most valuable features of this solution are SnapShot, FlexClone, and deduplication."
"The Cloud Manager application that's on the NetApp cloud site is easy to use. You can set up and schedule replications from there, so you don't have to go into the ONTAP system. Another feature we've recently started using is the scheduled power off. We started with one client and have been slowly implementing it with others. We can cut costs by not having the VM run all the time. It's only on when it's doing replication, but it powers off after."
"So a lot of these licenses are at the rate that is required for capacity. So they're they're able to reduce the license consumption and also the consumption of the underlying cloud storage."
"The most valuable feature is its exceptional performance and storage efficiency."
"The ease of use in terms of how the product works is valuable. We are able to work with it and deploy the storage that we need."
"If you have a fair amount of experience with NetApp, you can work on it very easily."
"The FlexClones make all the management easier for us."
"The solution’s Snapshot copies and thin clones in terms of operational recovery are good. Snapshot copies are pretty much the write-in time data backups. Obviously, critical data is snapshotted a lot more frequently, and even clients and end users find it easier to restore whatever they need if it's file-based, statical, etc."

Cons

"HPE StoreOnce Backup to Disk (BTD) is not a good backup solution for NAS devices. It does not have a dual controller, so if one controller fails, the entire system will go down."
"While StoreOnce has many features, it needs to focus on integrating with third-party backup software solutions."
"We do not foresee the need to have an artificial intelligence app. It is not mature enough."
"The cost is at the forefront of everyone's mind."
"The appliance doesn't have the global deduplication, it has StoreOnce deduplication. It does not deduplicate across the appliance, it will deduplicate in one particular store. With the global deduplication, I could store more data."
"The product could be improved with better support for data protection."
"The solution would be improved if it could also be used as a data store for VMware."
"HPE StoreOnce needs to provide a SaaS solution by offering high-density disks."
"We would like to have support for high availability in multi-regions."
"Not a perfect ten because it's not very efficient with upgrades and management."
"I would like NetApp to come up with an easier setup for the solution."
"When it comes to a critical or a read-write-intensive application, it doesn't provide the performance that some applications require, especially for SAP. The SAP HANA database has a write-latency of less than 2 milliseconds and the CVO solution does not fit there. It could be used for other databases, where the requirements are not so demanding, especially when it comes to write-latency."
"The dashboard is a little bit clunky. I like to see it a little bit more on the simplistic side. I would like to be able to create my own widgets and customize what I want to see a little bit more versus what is currently there. That would be helpful so that when I log in, I go straight to my widget or my board without going to multiple places to get to what I need to find or build."
"We want to be able to add more than six disks in aggregate, but there is a limit of the number of disks in aggregate. In GCP, they provide less by limiting the sixth disk in aggregate. In Azure, the same solution provides 12 disks in an aggregate versus GCP where it is just half that amount. They should bump up the disk in aggregate requirement so we don't have to migrate the aggregate from one to another when the capacities are full."
"The product is more restricted with underlying cloud."
"The data tiering needs improvement. E.g., moving hard data to faster disks."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have got a perpetual license, and we have access to all the features. If you are using cloud banks, you can store the internal data in HPE Cloud if needed. You can offload the data to the HPE Cloud. It is a licensed product. We have got around 10 TB of cloud bank storage with a one-time payment. We specifically took 10 TB for very critical offsite backups. We can also increase it in blocks if needed."
"The licensing schemes could improve in HPE StoreOnce and the price is high. They should reduce the price."
"The product is not expensive. It is available at a good price."
"The solution is pretty expensive."
"I would rate it around two or three because, compared to others, it tends to be higher priced."
"With the same capacity of Data Domain and ExaGrid, which is 80 terabytes, HPE is the cheapest one."
"To be honest, we were quite happy with the price, but we always want things cheaper than they are. I think for what we got, we felt that the price was quite reasonable comparing it to other products that provide that same level of functionality."
"I think the product is competitive in terms of pricing. Other products like the one from Dell are costlier compared to the tool."
"The AWS consumer-based pricing model makes it easy for developers to use their credit cards to spin up virtual servers immediately."
"The cost is quite high."
"Once we deploy the pay as you go model, we cannot convert this product as a BYOL model. This is a concern that we have."
"They allow a special price if you are working closely with them. Since we have a lot of NetApp systems, we got some kind of discount. That's something they do for other customers, not just for us. The price was fair. In addition to the licensing fees, you're paying Amazon for your usage..."
"The deal with the seller was acceptable; the pricing is reasonable."
"Make sure you investigate what your requirements are going to cost you using the native cloud solutions versus what NetApp is going to cost you, to make sure you have a business case to go with NetApp."
"Compared to other storage vendors, NetApp, is not always able to compete with their pricing. Yet, we acknowledge the ease of use ONTAP brings with the AWS integration."
"The pricing of this solution is definitely higher than what the typical Azure Files and AWS solutions charge, but given the features and the stability NetApp has provided, we are okay with it. We are not complaining about the pricing."
