Has integrated solutions and rapid recovery made management smoother and more reliable
There is the latest update from HPE regarding HPE SimpliVity. For virtualization, HPE has to depend on other manufacturers, OEMs such as VMware or Hyper-V. Recently, HPE declared the VM essential virtualization solution. In the future, if HPE integrates HPE SimpliVity with VM essential, that will be a great combination. Functionality-wise, I am totally satisfied with HPE SimpliVity, but for improvement, if HPE integrates its own virtualization solution, this combination and integration will be beneficial because this integration can be configured with the cloud-based system. A VM can be uploaded to the cloud from this, which will be advantageous for backup to other sites.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is very stable."
"The simple management comes in handy since a standard VMware admin can manage it."
"There is no single feature that's the most valuable. All of SimpliVity's components work together to make daily operations easier for our customers."
"The ease of use on the backup and DR and replication side of things is good. It can be done by a VMware admin with no additional training."
"The most valuable aspect of the HPE SimpliVity is the DL380 G10. We have mostly been using VMware and Hyper-V. On one side we have Hyper-V and the other side we have the VMware."
"SimpliVity works well in a UAT environment.."
"The globally federated architecture means that the backup across sites does not consume precious MPLS bandwidth, which is cool."
"The built-in backup and quick restore are good features."
"Scale Computing HC3 is highly stable."
"The initial setup is pretty straightforward."
"I like that Scale Computing HCR is slimmed down and gives me the features I need and not features that I don't need."
"The most valuable feature of Scale Computing HC3 is if one of the devices fails, you won't even notice, the service maintains operation. The customers don't have to waste two, or three days on delays. Additionally, you do not have to waste time with recovery software, it is a lot easier."
"I rate Scale Computing support 10 out of 10. They're accessible and responsive."
"The solution is quite stable; it's rock solid, there are no bugs or glitches, it doesn't crash or freeze, and it's quite reliable."
"I would advise others they should use this solution instead of traditional servers because it's safer, and better for the company."
"The most valuable features are the appliance-type feel and that you don't need additional licenses as everything is built-in."

Cons

"Simplify the backup and restore: With integrated backup and remote replication, it could reduce risk and eliminates the use of legacy data tools."
"SimpliVity's scalability is good, but you definitely need to opt for two processors if you want scalability; it's limited otherwise."
"Pricing is a little high in my opinion. Prices have climbed consistently since our purchase and install."
"I would like some reporting about backup and replication."
"The product is expensive."
"When we make some upgrades to the platform, it does take time to stabilize the structure again."
"The ease of new deployments could be improved."
"Its price can be improved. Customers always look for better prices. It is more expensive as compared to other products available in the market."
"The product could use a better control center."
"On the fly, you cannot do anything on Scale Computing HC3, though it is a very rarely needed area."
"The product struggles to cope with bigger workloads. In the next release, I'd like some backup solutions to be added."
"I've had so many issues with the sales team when I was looking to make some improvements, and improve the performance. They would create so many excuses to force me to buy new nodes all the time and not let me add more memory to each node."
"The snapshot technology takes up 500 times more space compared to other solutions."
"Scale HC3 improvements would involve literally fixing up the replication."
"Scale Computing HC3 said in an announcement they were going to integrate with a backup service which would be good. If they could do this it would be beneficial."
"There could be an easier way to see which servers are on each node"

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I think it's a complete package. We buy the license with support for five years. It's a subscription, I will say, but it's included when you buy the SimpliVity solution from HPE. You have a contract with the software warranty and upgrades."
"The price is one of the biggest problems our customers have."
"This solution, while costly as all these solutions are, was in fact less expensive than upgrading my old SAN."
"Its licensing is yearly."
"There is a one-time purchase needed for the license for HPE SimpliVity. The solution is expensive, but it is worth the money."
"All-in license, simple and fair."
"The hardware is expensive. For the same price, Cisco can provide more hardware specifications for us."
"Investing less time in configuration and management means that you will have more time to focus on what is really important: Your company's innovation and rapid commercialization."
"I pay for Scale Computing HC3 and it includes customer service for one year. We paid for an additional year for customer service but that includes the updates and everything for the software. Additionally, the licensing is for Windows, which is the same for everybody."
"I give the pricing a nine out of ten."
"The product is worth the money, but I would not say it's very cheap or very expensive."
"rate HC3's pricing a five out of ten since it is affordable."
