Efficient monitoring and alerting enhance operational insights
With Grafana Enterprise Stack, we can identify issues that New Relic cannot help with. While New Relic requires purchase and supports frontend and backend components, Grafana Enterprise Stack helps identify where issues are occurring. When we need to deep dive into issues, we use New Relic to trace transactions and determine where maximum impact occurs, whether in core size, DB side, or frontend components that slow performance. We first evaluate with Grafana Enterprise Stack, then move to New Relic if we identify performance degradation, such as DB queries taking too much time. Grafana Enterprise Stack responds to queries within 6 to 12 hours. They contact users through email immediately when available. Similarly, New Relic follows the same pattern, responding immediately when requests are raised and resolving issues promptly.

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Grafana's full observability stack, known as LGTM, is highly valuable."
"The most valuable features for us are dashboards; we can dashboard anything that we can think of, we can dashboard and measure."
"The ability to graph actual, live, or on-the-fly activity is valuable; it is an added value to work with Grafana Enterprise Stack and to display results or logs, which are huge in nature, in graphical characters."
"Grafana's full observability stack, known as LGTM, is highly valuable."
"Grafana has enough features around dashboard management. It's got enough plugins to create your dashboards."
"Grafana's most valuable feature is its ability to provide a graphical representation of data collected from various sources."
"The most valuable feature of Grafana Enterprise Stack is the dashboards."
"Grafana Enterprise Stack is a powerful open-source platform with robust capabilities in data visualizations, dashboard creations, and alerting."
"I find troubleshooting is quicker because we can drill down into the end points and see which endpoints are getting critical. Visibility-wise, the micro details are easy to find."
"I have seen a return on investment with Splunk AppDynamics, as we are investing more and more for Splunk AppDynamics because we have many tools and many applications in our organization."
"AppDynamics is in the middle of our monitoring environment; it is connected with all other monitoring applications and helps us to check all the errors and performance issues because all our alerts related to the performance of our website or backend applications are implemented through this, so it is one of the most important monitoring applications."
"The business transaction that stands between multiple applications is proving to be most valuable."
"It is not a cheap tool, but you also save in manpower to setup because it is easy and fast."
"The flow map is very valuable to us. Before we installed APM, we had no idea how our application looked."
"It’s great that APM monitors in real-time, and when we have an issue, we find out fairly quickly if there's a problem with our hardware."
"It improves our organization by providing the right alerts, and there are so many parameters to choose from that it allows us to set the right level of alerting mechanism for approximately one hundred and twenty services."

Cons

"The solution should include integration with Power BI."
"I find Grafana really hard to configure. It's difficult to build the dashboard, and it's non-intuitive. In my opinion, it's very difficult to work with Grafana."
"Integrating AI capabilities for automated self-healing and reduced manual interventions would be valuable."
"Grafana Enterprise Stack is complex and not easy or simple."
"The tool needs to show only fewer updates."
"The connection between metrics, logs, and traces could be improved. Currently, one needs to ingest labels and timestamps for them to be connected, however, drilling down sometimes takes time."
"In terms of what Grafana provides, it just provides the charting tools. Everything else is third-party."
"The connection between metrics, logs, and traces could be improved."
"The product's drawback is the licensing pricing. It could be better."
"The Log Analytics feature is a bit complicated."
"I recommend choosing Dynatrace over AppDynamics Database Monitoring as it's easier to use."
"The solution could improve the server size for AppDynamics to include middleware products, which is doesn't yet cover. If they add middleware for sophisticated sites, AppDynamics would be the global choice."
"The initial setup is a bit complex."
"The solution has performance issues after we deploy the agent."
"We’re having difficulty with the Apache web agent. It seems to be consuming too many resources of AppDynamics."
"The UI could use a little help."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I use the tool's free license."
"One of the main downsides to the solution is its cost."
"The product’s licencing policy is competitive. However, properly identify and size your needs to get the best rate."
"I would like more flexible pricing: A pay-per-use model, rather than just a fixed-price model."
"The tool is expensive."
"This price of this product is expensive."
"My understanding is that the price of this solution is quite high, compared to other products."
"Because it is priced per JVM, the price can increase pretty fast, into the millions. We have had challenges because we had to justify the price to our clients, as well, when we are putting in certain tools."
"It could be a bit lower, but looking at the scalability, functionality, and other things, you can understand why AppDynamics is so expensive as compared to some of the cheaper products that don't have that full single pane of glass they've got. Dynatrace has got three different elements that you need to log into just to get a full view, which is not so good, and because of that, it is a bit cheaper."
