Has simplified backend development for moderate user applications and supports efficient real-time data updates
A simplified way of building a logical layer on top of Firebase is necessary. Currently, the only option is to use cloud functions or Cloud Run functions. If they come up with an easier way of handling the logical layer between the frontend and backend, that would be beneficial. The UI of Firebase is much better compared to AWS or other Azure, but there is still scope for improving the usability of the UI. Additionally, some more AI features for automation can be added. The security layer can be enhanced, as currently, for data handling, there is just rule-based security; they can add one more layer of data security.

Room for improvement in data handling leads to enhanced cost-effective data management performance
It would be beneficial if MongoDB Atlas could better support OLTP aspects and data frames, as well as enhance its capabilities for data pipelines and visualization dashboards. Furthermore, supporting the medallion architecture could be a valuable addition, and incorporating improved spatial and vector handling for geographical data could make it more competitive. Enhancing vector processing for AI capabilities would also be critical.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I use the solution for maps, saving some locations, and chats."
"The most valuable features are Firestore's query capabilities and its real-time syncing functionality."
"One of the main features of Google Cloud Firestore's document management is the real-time listener; whenever there are any changes in the data, all the documents and applications that are reading through that particular document get automatically notified that there was some change, and automatically all the data gets refreshed."
"Scalability is its most valuable feature, as it is pretty simple."
"What I found most valuable in MongoDB Atlas is its Elasticsearch feature. It also has high availability, so it's stable."
"I find MongoDB Atlas highly scalable and easy to use, with very good support."
"The most beneficial MongoDB features for our workload are the ability to scale up and down using automatic sharding and clustering."
"There are many valuable features, but scalability stands out. It can scale across zones. You can define multiple nodes. They have also partnered with AWS, offering great service with multiple features, including built-in backup, all under the same roof, without the need for external tools."
"The dynamic structures are the most valuable."
"The price of MongoDB Atlas is reasonable, which is why many organizations, including mine, are opting for it."
"MongoDB is a NoSQL tool."

Cons

"I initially faced a problem creating groups in individual chats."
"Firestore needs improvements in its querying capabilities, particularly the ability to join tables and merge data from different tables before sending it to the front end."
"For lower volumes, it works fine, but once the volume increases, for use cases where the total number of users is less than 100,000 a month, Firebase is cheaper. But once you go beyond that, it becomes very expensive."
"The cost needs improvement. The product is good, but the cost that we paid for it is expensive, so it wasn't that valuable."
"The installation was straightforward except for the network hardware because it was a little complicated to make the connection with our VPC on AWS."
"I would like a better dashboard. It could be made a bit more user friendly."
"The product's file storage documentation needs improvement."
"Querying a dataset is not very intuitive, so I think that it can be improved."
"In the past, MongoDB offered more features for free, but now it's quite limited. The free version is limited, and you need to pay extra to fully utilize it. The pricing could be improved."
"The initial setup is not too difficult but can be somewhat tricky."
"The replica side, like the venue, can be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We're currently using the Atlas for the night and don't require a license. However, it can be a problem if you want to use their enterprise environment. Then you need to purchase the license."
"In my previous company, the product allowed use to build a database in a highly regulated environment with the ability to get distributed storage. We used MongoDB as a distributed storage to set up this environment for a critical business application with millions of dollars."
"Comparing the price between the MongoDB and Microsoft SQL Server, we are using the enterprise edition of Microsoft SQL Server, which is more expensive than MongoDB."
"For me, MongoDB is expensive, but I think it is not so expensive for customers."
"I have seen the cost, and it was pretty cheap."
"The pricing is not that expensive, but it can be, especially when we have deployed it across multiple zones."
"The pricing is good. We originally chose it over DynamoDB because of the pricing."
"The pricing and licensing is great."
