Simplifying log management by displaying detailed access information
The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is its ability to simplify and display logs clearly, providing details like which IPs are accessing the system, the destination, and the policies applied. This visualization and detail make managing logs more straightforward. In conjunction with our VMware setup, Fortinet FortiAnalyzer enhances organizational efficiency, meeting the standard log retention period for up to a year.
Matthew Hoerig - PeerSpot reviewer
Audit function refines log retrieval and drives application assessments with evolving features
From a service assessment and authorization process perspective, when conducting an assessment on an application or system, we use controls essentially equivalent to the NIST 800-53 framework. This includes examining audit logs, data quality, and various KPIs required for log configuration. It factors into our application assessments. When producing documentation packages for application or system authorization, audit logging and monitoring are crucial parts of the assessment process. The evidence we gather includes screenshots and outputs from these tools and capabilities. For Microsoft Purview Audit specifically, we provide examples of audit function configuration and log output details, which are incorporated into our evidence documents.

Pros

"The capability of logging in Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is great because there is no need to go to each individual box to check the traffic details."
"FortiAnalyzer's reporting features like graphs, threat intelligence, and vulnerabilities analysis are helpful. Fortinet knows how to do reporting. You can customize your reports to show exactly what you want to analyze. It's user-friendly and doesn't require a lot of effort."
"The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiAnalyzer are the dashboards and supporting services."
"We have the most data visibility."
"The installation process for Fortinet FortiAnalyzer was very smooth, taking around two to three hours to deploy."
"Log View is the most valuable part for us, as we can view logs from different Fortigates on a single GUI."
"The interface is simple and easy to navigate."
"The event handling solution in the platform is very good and useful."
"The platform has significantly enhanced our operational insight into the overall Microsoft 365 environment."
"We're easily saving at least one hour per day using this solution."
"The overall user experience with Microsoft Purview Audit is of higher quality than when it was branded as Compliance Center, and Microsoft consistently updates and evolves functionalities and the overall experience."

Cons

"When using this solution, you need a high-level expert to make it work as it should."
"Feature-wise, it is working very well for us. We don't need any additional features. However, its pricing can be improved. For small business customers, price is an important factor."
"It's possible that they could add some advanced analytics and some proactive controls for logging analytics. That will help a lot."
"The technical support is not very good."
"The FortiAnalyzer is not scalable."
"The solution costs too much."
"Though FortiAnalyzer has improved over the last few versions, the user interface still has room for improvement. It's a bit dated-looking."
"The product should be integrated with other third-party solutions for context exchange."
"Areas for product improvement include enhancing customization options and integrating more comprehensive compliance features."
"We are still in the early stages of leveraging Microsoft Purview Audit. Currently, it's primarily used for the audit function."
"We do have a Denial of Access happening."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is not expensive when compared to other solutions like Palo Alto."
"We have several products including Fortinet Wireless, FortiGate Firewalls, and FortiAnalyzer, which are bundled together and cost approximately $50,000 USD annually."
"The hardware cost and services contract are fair."
"The hardware has a one-time cost and maintenance is paid by annual subscription."
"Compared to other products, the price is a little bit high."
"It is expensive for small business customers. It is only available for customers with a high number of firewalls to manage or to report. If a customer has only five boxes of FortiGate, the price of FortiAnalyzer can be more than the five boxes. So, we can't easily put this solution for small business customers."
"The number of licenses required directly corresponds with the number of devices connected."
"I rate Fortinet FortiAnalyzer's pricing as five out of ten."
