Offers application conversion to Docker image and a mature environment
The learning curve with Docker is huge and extensive. Adopting Docker is a bit difficult because it requires a lot of expertise and background, including an understanding of networking and security concepts. Many professionals are facing issues with the different architectures that interact with each other in Docker. Whenever in our company, we are working with the production environment, professionals are hesitant to adopt Docker due to the extensive learning curve, and most of the team members in our company are more accustomed to an environment like VMware instead of Docker. Docker runs on scripts, so if AI can automate most of the scripting process in Docker, it would be a great advantage in the future version of Docker. As of now, we can create scripts utilizing most of the functions within Docker, but that initial planning phase wherein to understand exactly how you will plan for the resources, how you will convert applications into a Docker-based image, and similar tasks needs to be simplified so that more professionals can adopt Docker.

High availability and self-healing mechanisms ensure seamless production builds
The most useful feature of Mirantis Container Cloud for our container management is Kubernetes. It provides a cluster, high availability, and a self-healing mechanism. Its multi-cluster management capability enhances our operational efficiency as it is easy to use, and every deployment is from the CI/CD, which automatically builds and deploys without human interference, reducing our deployment time to a few seconds.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of Docker is that it revolutionized virtualization by providing a new approach with containers that completely nullified the time it used to take to deploy applications on virtual servers, resulting in deployment times that can be as quick as milliseconds, unless it is a heavy application, such as Java. Additionally, resource utilization has greatly improved with Docker, allowing for more resources to be allocated to other tasks. These are a few key features that make Docker a preferred choice."
"The initial setup was easy, and you are only required to run commands."
"We are using Docker to host applications."
"The most valuable feature of Docker is that it provides a containerized environment. The isolation between the environments is beneficial. Additionally, the solution is easy to use."
"The most valuable feature is the simple containerization."
"The lift and shift creates a lightweight image."
"Docker's containerization property is its main selling point."
"Docker is perfect for what I do...The solution is scalable."
"The product's most valuable feature is cloud simulation to predict application behavior on the cloud."
"It is a stable solution. It is nearly perfect. I would rate the stability a ten out of ten."
"If we compare legacy application support to Docker, it's a superior product."
"The product's initial setup phase is simple."
"Main products are portable."
"The solution containerizes software."
"The UI is very useful."
"I think the volume binding is a really interesting feature."

Cons

"Unfortunately, base images are not currently available."
"The vendor should release a monitoring tool or include monitoring capabilities in Docker"
"The documentation could be improved."
"There can be challenges with port mapping, however, that's not related to Docker itself."
"The volumes for persistent storage could be more user friendly right out of the box."
"I would like to see better management layers."
"Docker volumes. When I integrated volumes, I faced challenges. I have not essentially used add volumes to the existing instances."
"Sometimes, it can become heavy and cause performance issues."
"I would also like to see more features inside Docker as well as more integration with different solutions."
"I find Docker easier to use, but I gave it to an inexperienced developer and it took him a lot of time to understand."
"In my previous years, I have brainstormed about the development of Container software. I have recently shifted focus, but the knowledge gained from those were really helpful. In my experience, Containers have their own complexities and to implement them, open source information is crucial. A software with new features would be beneficial. I suggest to implement a flow-based approach for container sequences, similar to Google Cloud's machine learning. The current process of deploying containers involves too many steps, and a more streamlined method would be appreciated. I've even automated deployment using APIs. Overall, simplifying container management and deployment processes would be valuable."
"Sometimes the basic support is a bit difficult if you have a firewall and cloud servers behind the firewall and then try to implement the backup solution, it is a bit difficult to do by yourself."
"It would be very nice to have a GUI that can be used by any administrator, and not just people who have experience with Docker."
"It will be better if the product provides dynamic load-balancing capabilities."
"Mirantis Container Cloud could improve in simplifying security and compliance management, particularly in vulnerability scanning and patching."
"This product will only be useful if it can successfully run legacy applications in the cloud."

From a cost perspective, Mirantis Container Cloud is a reasonable choice compared to other solutions. However, for support, it might be better to go with Red Hat, which provides better support. Overall, I would rate Mirantis Container Cloud an eight out of ten.

I recommended the tech guys that haven't used it so far, or if their company is still using the transitional infrastructure, they should give it a try.

My advice is in regards to the security. Many of my customers do not care enough about security, they have a disbelief that once you are in a cloud, you are automatically secure. This sis not the case at all. You need to understand that nothing is guaranteed if you do not follow the right rules. You need proper monitoring tools to keep the work-site safe and secure. It may cost the customer more, but it is worth every penny.
